Oops went off topic soz Back on topic "I've got more trees that need pruning next year if you knock XXX amount off you can do those next time" Yeah right fell for that twice wont happen a third time. "you must make a fortune on all the logs and chip you sell" You want to buy 300 ton of the stuff? "I've had a cheaper quote but you seem more proffesional can you beat theres?" No!

Err do I have this tax thing all wrong but as far as I know when you buy something through the business at still costs money just not the full amout.ie working on a basic 25% i buy something for £1000 but it only costs £750 since the tax man dont get his £250 tax of the would be profit. I hope I've got it wrong could be in for some dosh back:001_tongue:

No chance of that working here, all tree work is done by one large contractor (well 2 actually one on parks the other on streeets) and WTF they actually do baffles me! The amount of standing dead trees is unreal, the only guys I see cutting are the grass lads who hack a few branches off now and then to stop them getting wacked in the face while on there mower

We've just done the same tbh, only by £10. We will just have to see what happens but I know in the past we have lost jobs for the sake of a tenner on a full days work!

I've done that plenty over hear as well, destroyed some nice trees in the past (allthough dont do powerline clearance anymore thank god)

had this one quite a few times " I really love trees but not that one" Had the conifer one a few times aswell, after taking 10 foot off will another 2 inches really make a difference! Wasnt me but after one of the lads had been climbing all day with a set of spikes on the customer quietly says to another lad "It's amazing what these disabled people can do nowadays"

Hi, Could be quite a few different things tbh. 130 sounds a bit low tbh I think it should be more around the 150 mark.Does it 'feel' like it has good compression? ie if you pull the starter cord does it have noticiable tough spots rather than pulling uniformally (if you can understand that ) Check fuel line for splits,cracks. Check boot between carb and cylinder for cracks.leaks etc. Make sure choke aint sticking on or off. If none of above then prob a carb fault but you need to be a bit more explicit with your description.Does it tick over?

This is usually the busiest time of the year for us but things aint too good at the mo,probably have 2 weeks worth of work atm if we dont rush With the long forcast of another miserable wet summer things are looking bleak:sad: On the bright side there should be alot of cheap arb gear for sale on ebay soon:biggrin:

Hi, Sorry to hear about the accident. To be fair does it say in the instructions that came with the boots where the protection is? I never expect boots,trousers or jackets etc(dont wear a jacket) to stop a chainsaw, it will just give a false sense of security. That last thing i would want would be more layers of protection in anything, the gear is restrictive and hot enough as it is. You must also remember the protective clothing offers some protection against chainsaws they are not chainsaw proof. I've had a few nasty chainsaw cuts in the past and they have all been down to me being an idiot I hope i haven't offended you in anyway, will be interesting to see what others think.

Try drinking water or coke/lemonade in between pints(fizzy drinks are supposed to be better btw). It's hard to do especially when half cut but I allways feel better for it then next day.That and not drinking on an empty stomach. Oh and not drinking Stella aswell

SHOW ME THE MONEEEY! I have no problem with topping tree's at all. I'll explain the problems it will cause and how it will be more cost effective to do a proper reduction thin etc or take the tree down completely. But if the customer wont listen then I'm not going to throw the job away. At the end of the day I'm only in this business to make a living (which I do sometimes wonder how)and I've seen plenty of topped tree's that I could have done a well better job on. It's annoying when you price a job to thin,reduce, crown lift etc then drive past a few weeks later to find It's been hacked to bits Customer probably thinks they got more value for money with all the 'extra' branches removed than what I had quoted for.

I'm sure that your public liability is void if you dont have a groundsman capable of aeriel rescue.I aint 100% sure on this though, it may be more like not having any groundsman at all voids it

Apart from the legal requirements I dont think having a groundie with aerial rescue Is all that important. If you injure yourself bad enough to warrant a rescue then your probably gonna be dead before he gets there! A groundie with aeriel rescue that doesnt climb on a daily basis is gonna be very very slow tbh. If I have a fornight off it usually takes a day or 2 to get back into it.

Dont forget the bit about being a lot more Highly Skilled mate, It takes a lot longer to become a 'proper' tree surgeon than a groundie. Groundies do a very important job which IMO has got to be at least 50% of the job.Too many people think that the most important thing to do is get the tree done/down as quickly as possible, when if you do the job the right way, and you have good ground staff then your done and dusted when someone else is still pulling logs of the pile of brash they dropped everywhere. After reading alot of the comments about what a good groundie should do I think our groundie needs a right good slap across the back of the head

I dont know much about those engines tbh but i think they have an aluminium head which if they do can easily warp/ crack etc. If the job has been sorted properly and the problem fixed that caused the warp/crack then i dont see a reason not to buy since toymota have a a very good reliability record Well untill someone else posts something different

As Ed says try Euro Trees.They have just lost 2 of there better climber/gang leaders so they should be up for some new staff. I aint saying there the best to work for just that they may have some vacancies. There are a few of us who are reputable... but not many

Probably has overheated,faulty water pump,holed rad or pipe,etc. Or could have been a bad casting with the head. One of my mates found a new transit with 3 head gaskets on! musta been a fault at the factory since it hadnt been touched from new. What engine is it?

Its a bit of a grey area but It's best to just get a waste transfer license I think there only about £120 for 3 years. Plus (taken from a site somewhere) "The regulations mean that everyone has a ‘duty of care’ to make sure their waste is disposed of properly. If you give waste to someone else to take away, it’s your responsibility to make sure they are authorised to do so. If you don’t make sure your waste is disposed of responsibility you could be facing a fine of up to £5000" Another good reason for a customer to choose you over a competitor without a license Therefore Mr and Mrs Jones could be in for a nice fine if the cowboy fly tippers are caught

If your going to Sterilise your saws then you may as well serilise everything or i think it would be a waste of time. Spores will be alot more at home on your clothes,ropes,harness etc. I remember reading that honey fungus spores are usually present in air samples taken anywhere all year round, and they have been found in air samples 5 miles up! From what I gather there are fungus spores everywhere all the time its just the old,weak,damaged(unlucky) tree that gets it.
