  1. Yep felled plenty of trees like that m8 and also taken alot bigger, dangerous and more awkward trees down the proper way If the client just wanted it dropping in one and didnt care about fooking his hedge then fair enough its his call. The way you posted it though it looked like someone cba sectioning it and took a chance and really fooked it up. I've been up many a storm damaged tree in very bad conditions so i think i can speak with a little experience.
  2. I doubt using a ladder to get into a tree is gonna turn me into a bat b*****d If thats the case then maybe we should use bow saws instead of chainsaws, get rid of the chipper and throw it onto the back of the van and err get rid of the van and walk to every job pulling a cart. The only fat "tree surgeons" I've ever seen are s**t ones.
  3. Isnt it about 250 years too late to properly pollard the tree?
  4. I use them nearly all the time for access into trees but hardly ever work from them to easy to have an accident imo.Anything that saves time, effort and is easy to use is a big bonus, and I'm past the "only proffesionals would climb without a ladder" stage.
  5. You would probably be better off buying new teeth tbh. By the time youve bought the teeth, flux, silver solder and oxy/acetylene I doubt you would be saving much if anything. As A-lopa says it aint that easy to get it right, ive lost a few tips in the past that i havent brazed properly
  6. I thought/hoped he was taking the piss and just found the vid on the web especially with the last comment "top fell"
  7. Lol I bet some one didnt get paid for that job
  8. I.ve just bought some from http://www.hardmaterials.net/tree-stump-cutters.asp but as arbormaster says if youve ground down the steel there might not be enough to braze the tungsten on to. At £1.50 odd a tooth it might not be cost effective, how much do you pay for the multitip teeth?
  9. I agree to all of the above but this one Why would you want to do that? The tree has enough problems as it is why introduce some more?
  10. If your gonna mod the fuel tank try and make it more ergonimic so it catches less when yankin it through the tree. It's what annoys me most about the 020 i think.
  11. Btw a tourniquet is a last resort usually resulting in more damage than good. Direct pressure to the wound is the first thing to do followed by elevation then indirect pressure to the artery.
  12. The less stuff attached to my harness the better. Allways have a first aid kit in the van and in everyones kit bag which is usually fairly close to the tree ya climbing. In the event of an accident I have the get yourself out the tree or die mentality so probably no time to mess about with bandages.
  13. There is no need for rehydration salts, sports drinks etc, You are all doing it wrong. I never suffer from dehydration because I'm a lazy git:001_smile: Just dont work as hard and you willl probably live a bit longer On a more serious note advice I have been given is drink when you are thristy 'not' just because you are hot.Unless you are eating super healthy food then you probably have enough salt its the water you need when things go wrong. Since you loose alot of heat through the head remove your helmet now and then to cool down, and fook the hse it will kill you.
  14. I would decide to dig a pond right next to the tree then, after you've servered plenty of roots and spilt a bit of round-up on em, think it was a bad idea and fill it in again
  15. Reading those comments and thinking about it wtf am I doing? Ya right garderners are on a better rate when you take the overheades into account Sometimes its best not to think about what other industries earn, just depresses me
  16. You still need employers liability mate. Anyone working under your control needs to be covered.
  17. I reckon that most people (potential domestic customers) see tree work as glorified gardening and therefore expect to pay gardening wages! After all everyone used to climb trees when they were a kid so how hard can it be
  18. Oops went off topic soz Back on topic "I've got more trees that need pruning next year if you knock XXX amount off you can do those next time" Yeah right fell for that twice wont happen a third time. "you must make a fortune on all the logs and chip you sell" You want to buy 300 ton of the stuff? "I've had a cheaper quote but you seem more proffesional can you beat theres?" No!
  19. Err do I have this tax thing all wrong but as far as I know when you buy something through the business at still costs money just not the full amout.ie working on a basic 25% i buy something for £1000 but it only costs £750 since the tax man dont get his £250 tax of the would be profit. I hope I've got it wrong could be in for some dosh back:001_tongue:
  20. Tbh it looks to me that another anchor point would get in the way.
  21. No chance of that working here, all tree work is done by one large contractor (well 2 actually one on parks the other on streeets) and WTF they actually do baffles me! The amount of standing dead trees is unreal, the only guys I see cutting are the grass lads who hack a few branches off now and then to stop them getting wacked in the face while on there mower
  22. Mesterh

    sweet fa

We've just done the same tbh, only by £10. We will just have to see what happens but I know in the past we have lost jobs for the sake of a tenner on a full days work!
  23. I've done that plenty over hear as well, destroyed some nice trees in the past (allthough dont do powerline clearance anymore thank god)
  24. had this one quite a few times " I really love trees but not that one" Had the conifer one a few times aswell, after taking 10 foot off will another 2 inches really make a difference! Wasnt me but after one of the lads had been climbing all day with a set of spikes on the customer quietly says to another lad "It's amazing what these disabled people can do nowadays"
  25. COME ON THAT CYPRESS APHID:w00t: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1032839/How-aphid-sucking-life-hated-leylandii-hedges.html Nice of the media to whip up another panic! Allready had one customer phone up worring that her lovely maintained hedge ( by me of course!)is about to drop dead. Anyhow to get back to the topic it might give a little helping hand in picking up work, time to get the ghost buster suit on:001_tongue: Er not that I'm hoping loads of peeps are going to need there leylandii spraying, pruning, felling etc:sneaky2:
