  1. Maybe just pick your jobs for the next couple of days, wear some suntan lotion, take breaks more often and drink plenty of water. By Wednesday we will all be complaining about the rain.
  2. I do like a bit of trout. How long did you smoke it for?
  3. Too true. You Frencies are always looking on the bright side of life. My half a tupence of thoughts on this subject is that in this scenario the company pays for a new rope, the employee gets a bit of a rollicking and we all crack on. It's not worth worrying about the little things imo. Unless the freelancer was taking a selfie for instagram at the time and the employee was on his phone replying to said selfie. On another note. I've just seen a big fook off spider in the living room, I was going to catch it and throw it out the window but I think its best for the Mrs to find it when she gets back from drying her hair.
  4. You just lost 48 metres off a 50 metre rope. I'd be pissed.
  5. It depends on the thickness of your rope but you may have to spit on it first and then guide it in with your thumb.
  6. Yeah, that looks like a bit of an awkward one to say the least! I think you're going to need a fairly decent winch to pull that over. Other options imo are to climb the syc and cut the ash out, a bit dodgy or fell the syc, also a bit dodgy. Or barrier it off and hope for some gale force wind. Good luck, be sure to post how you tackle it please.
  7. Well I wouldn't say that but imo it's better reading than a thread about which is the best foot spa.
  8. Why would you hand dig for foundations? It's not like you are threading a pipe or cable between the roots. Any roots would be encased in concrete. Maybe it's an accepted practice but it sounds like a waste of time and a lot of money to me. I hope you get it sorted and please update the thread as others have said it is an interesting one.
  9. What was the reason given for felling the trees 20M away? I suppose the la are looking after the interests of yours and your neighbors trees but I doubt that you need to adhere to the protection of your trees if you don't want to.
  10. Interstellar is worth a watch. Planes trains and automobiles is a cracker.
  11. Well, if planning permission has been agreed then is too late but it's not the same thing. By all means cut back to the boundary but be prepared for grief if the tree owner is being funny like the op makes out it to be. I agree that people certainly shouldn't plant trees without any consideration whatsoever to their neighbours but go and do a job with a neighborly dispute and let us know how it goes. It's not worth the hassle. Most of us have been there and have tried to make amends but more often than not you get left out of pocket when you could have been doing something far more productive and pleasant instead.
  12. I doubt it. You are the professional it's up to you to check before hand. Once you've lost money due to neighbour issues you will think twice before getting involved again. Besides, morals play some part for most people. Knowingly damaging someone elses property without their consent doesn't usually come high on the list of priorities.
  13. The problem is that the neighbour will probably just stand under the tree giving grief to the contractor if they do trespass if they are tied into the tree. The job won't get finished and the neighbour will have won. The contractor will be out of pocket. The only reasonable way would be to try and prune the tree without crossing the boundary but even then if the neighbour is not happy they can still cause enough grief so the that the job can't go ahead.
  14. I know there is talk of a food shortage but I didn't think it was that bad yet!
  15. By the sounds of things make sure the tree surgeon works so that it isn't a possibly. Not easy but maybe don't try to cut it right up to the border to save any hassle. Good luck, I wouldn't want to be involved with a job like that. No clue on the insurance side of things.
  16. He did it for the firewood, we all know that.
  17. No clue but if the council cut the grass on the verge I would imagine/expect/imo/probably/possibly the tree is their responsibly. Btw, I'm not a shill for big Verge. Good on ya for doing your bit.
  18. Wasnt that the trees fault though?
  19. There's always someone profiteering from a crisis. It probably dates back tens of thousands of years when the rains didn't come. The village shaman probably made a good few quid in those years. It's clear to see that many people still believe that the shaman causes the drought. Just for the record it's not like I upped my day rate when a storm came in, like.
  20. I he's fooked. In regards to defeat I guess that's probably the main worry, no full blown nuclear war but maybe he will just use a few tactical ones in Ukraine to level the place. It's not like it's going to rewind 3 months if he just pulls out tomorrow. Its probably just going to be Russia's Afghanistan for the next 20 years or until at least someone takes him out.
  21. I wonder if this threat is still on the cards Russia warns of nuclear, hypersonic deployment if Sweden and Finland join NATO WWW.REUTERS.COM One of Russian President Vladimir Putin's closest allies...
  22. Not as many years but I've never heard of it (that I can remember) seen it or used it. To the op, is there any reason to use it instead of say a bowline or barrel knot?
  23. Sad but true. It will also lead to more children being born with severe defects and more children born into extreme poverty and neglect. I wonder if those poor kids will be looked after by the state? Abortion isn't always about the best interests of the mother. It's a pity that those who made the rules probably won't have to experience any of that first hand. Not to worry though as I'm sure the US citizens will rise to their oppressors as they do like to bang the old 'The elites just want to control us by taking away our freedoms and rights' drum.
  24. I think that maybe the problem. Nowhere near enough water. I'm going back nearly 30 years(so advice may have changed a bit) but in my horticulture lessons leaving sacks or any kind of transport container in place was a big no no. I dunno if you can dig them up and remove it but it doesn't look like you have much to loose. As above, 30 secs of watering will probably wet the first few inches of soil at best.
