1. Hey I know what a cambium saver is, I saw one once in a book. Anyway when I was in training trees were harder back then and didnt need such pampering devices.
2. Fell it or dont. Staged fells are a waste of time from what Ive heard. The house will move now or later if its going to, so fell now repair house and all is well. Obviously I'm no expert, just have the above opinions passed on to me by experts, well they think so at least.
3. Actually just read its at 1 metre, I wouldnt worry about it tbh would assume there is plenty of sound wood there.
4. It will effect the structure strength. As for how much its hard to say. Ash is very very weak with this and not good at all to rig down on, well not snatch out big bits that for sure! It should be fine to climb on and rig out as long as it aint too much.
5. Thing is though, and this is just a guess, unless the chain failed very quickly ie before it had a first sharpen, who is to say operator error wasnt the cause of the failure. So what if it failed at the made up link, could be because of lack of chain oil, chain tension or mechanical damage.
6. I always make up our chains these days. Have had the odd one snap back in the days but nothing recently as far as I remember. Although also had a fair share of dealer chains snapping. Although it is an obvious H&S issue of a flying bit of sharp steel have never had or heard of an injury from a snapped chain. So to me I would say it is a low risk.
7. Gods knows. Had something to do with Krabs I think.

8. Not really a sunset but a pic at dusk in Alaska from the back of a ship.
9. OK no one take this as a negative post but I can tell you NOT to buy a husky bag as the speed that they fall to pieces is unbelievable. Actually the old ones were even worse, no one got more than a few days out of them, I kid you not!
10. All in jest my man. And NO certainly NOT!
11. He was obviously so overwhelmed by the help he forgot to say thanks. Or....you idiots it wasnt that, youve wasted my time completely. So go on Arbaholic was it that then? Always good to know what the problem was for future reference.
12. Yep this wire usually at the bit pointed out by number 2.
13. Well most of the rigging I do is mainly on take downs. Even so I would still use natural crotch rigging regardless, I'm a rebel like that, I dont even own a cambium saver. Cue the slagging off.
14. You'll have to let us know the cost from BT on that one! I'll buy some shares in them just before you do it:thumbup1:
15. Cheers for the info fellas and the offer of splicing it. At the rate I buy kit I should have a new one by 2015 I do use a big steel krab I think its rated at about 40kn but could be more as its a nasty big bugger that you dont want smacking you in the gob while lashing it around timber:crying: I never usually rig big stuff off anyway tbh, well nothing even remotely like some of the stuff I see in the vids on here:thumbup: Think I will deffo have a bash at the splicing. Theres were a few nice vids that I think Mick posted up from youtube but they have been taken down now! Anyone got some links to a few good uns?
16. Ive just never seen them advertised with either spliced eyes or the option to get them spliced unlike climbing lines. I just thought it was something that wouldnt be done rather than couldnt. I do need to get a new lowering line since my old Yale one is looking at bit past its best, well actually some bits are looking a bit square rather than round due to heat damage! Think I will deffo be ordering one with an eye now though.
17. Cheers for the info all:thumbup1: They way I rig down is very basic ie 16mm bull rope natural crotch rigging style. Oh I do have a flying capstan now though:thumbup: I just put a bowline in the end and use a steel Krab as a running bowline type knot. An add a half hitch when required. Really quicker and has served me well for years so a spliced eye would just make it all a bit quicker and easier. I thought the spliced eye might be the weak link and thats why I dont see lowering ropes advertised with splices. Didnt think about the pulley bit since I dont use one:blushing: I may have to have a look at doing a bit of splicing!
18. Getting prepared to be laughed at here but why arent lowering ropes spliced with an eye? I have my suspicions but was wondering what the real reason is. Would make things a lot easier ,well would for me and my dinosaur lowering ways.
19. What would possibly be an interim knot from a prussik to a VT then?
20. I price the same as the others £2-£3 an inch and minimum of £50-£70 depending on what machine I use. But as you say the volume does increase drastically. I was going to look into making some sort of excel sheet to calculate it all(with the help of an old customer who thought I was bonkers pricing it up the way we do!) but , I, err never did:blushing:
21. Ahh right thanks:thumbup1: For some reason I thought it was a different fungi than the first ones. Think I'll keep an eye out for that one.
22. Some really great pics with superb colours. What camera are you using? What type of fungi is an oudie? I assume its rare or something?
23. Maybe if people didnt go out of there way to wind me and question every single comment I make or opinion I have I might That could be seen as paranoia but I have looked over all my last posts so I know it aint. I type more or less the way I speak I dont want to spend ages dithering over what I type in case it bothers someone or comes across wrongly and I would hope others see it that way. The I wonder bit means exactly what it says I wonder why my opinion was picked up on and not others? Anyhow mate I an going to take a chill pill or 4 so I'll end my involvement in this thread by just saying I hope the guy gets back on track soon and as LSD says hopefully it will prevent future accidents.
24. Thats why I put this line underneath it mate. I didnt bring LOLER into this thread and I wasnt the first one to basically say they wouldnt use a VT and that the knot slips etc. Its just that for some reason my opinion got jumped on! I wonder why.
25. How on earth did you come to that conclusion from my comment you highlighted. Because I think its pointless doesnt mean I said I know better!! An as for the other stuff you said. Anyway from what I've read on here not all LOLER inspectors agree on the same thing. An whats being qualified got to do with having an opinion? I was wondering when you were going to say something tbh:001_smile:
