  1. He wanted a quote over the phone which I cant do and told him that, he still wanted a quote over the phone so I persuaded him to give me his address etc. I would hope that was decent enough people skills tbh. I was wondering how many people just wouldnt bother even trying to quote.
  2. Just had the typical "Can you tell me how much it is to cut down a tree?" Went through the usual response "It's impossible to give a price over the phone there are too many variables, access to the tree, size of the tree targets underneath blah blah blah" Same old response "Well can you give my a rough idea then?" !!! "Yes between about £50 to £3000, I really need to see the job its a free quote and I can call around tomorrow." Eventually they give me there address and I arrange to see the job on Tuesday, obviously thinking to myself it will be a complete wste of time but in the current economic climate etc etc. Anyway, the missus was listening and wasnt to impressed with the tone of my voice while speaking to possible client. I explained that I thought the client had gotten off lightly and sometimes I sound even more annoyed than I did then. So got me thinking I should obviously be more courteous to any potential clients but it does get tiresome with the old quote over the phone and more often than not results in nothing. So what do you do, try and talk them into getting you round to quote or just try and get rid of them for time wasting?
  3. Its right up there with badminton and crown green bowling.
  4. That fireplace is brilliant. The rest isnt too bad either.
  5. Its not always handy to be good at fixing things. People soon cotton on and bring all sorts of crap thinking you can get it working again.
  6. You sure? They do need ventilation but I always thought they need protecting from the rain or they will start to rot. Well ok not essential to cover them but it does really help imo.
  7. I think I would be covering them but loosely and raised up off the logs, just to keep the rain off.
  8. It could be something to do with the engine speed governor not working properly. Basically its some linkages that open or close the carb depending on the speed of the engine. When a load is put on the engine it slows down which through central fugal force moves a couple of linkages that open the throttle on the carb. If none of the above is working properly they you a trying to cut on something like a 1/4-1/3 of throttle.
  9. I would guess you might have to check with the local fire department and maybe have warning stickers on your garage/shed etc where they are stored.
  10. Or we could save a lot of time and money, and the planet it a bit by not burning a load of fuel and get them to put a cheque in the post. Although they might want to bill you the cost of a stamp and envelope.
  11. The petrol dissolves any bits of resin/sap/tar etc that the water doesnt get. But yeah it could damage any plastic nylon buts, ive not noticed that it does tbh so best not to use it.
  12. Cheers for that. Think of all the trees that could have been saved from pulping by using those 5 points instead off that big document.
  13. That's a bit of a contradiction in terms!
  14. Narr onky having laff and its good to see your doing what makes you feel happier in life:thumbup1: .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
  15. Your keyboard looks drunk to me mate.
  16. We coulda done a job swap you muppet. I would rather take the money anytime. I can climb trees at the weekend if I wanted the satisfaction.
  17. If you have any questions I'm sure I can help.
  18. The best thing to clean them in is petrol, but I never told you that, a second close is paraffin/kerosene.
  19. Nice1, sounds good to me. A log splitter is a god send, you feel so less guilty about watching someone use one all day compared to watching them split with an axe.
  20. I think the problem is that stuff is cheaper to replace than fix. This is probably partly to with the fact that there are more fitters than mechanics. You can get so many parts next day its not worth the time trying to repair them. I'm just a tight bugger so I fix rather than replace myself. But thats me repairing it not someone else.
  21. The problem is its changing and you will have to pay about £60 a month to get half of that. They are jumping on the fact that we are all getting addicted to the internet on our phones.
  22. Have you spoke to your bank manager about this?
  23. There are more and more pointless threads because not many seem to want to engage in the pointy ones. Be a grown up have your say, back up your opinions and fight for them. Or, just post pointless drivel like me.
  24. I think T mobile is the best atm for andoid phones, its something like 3gb a month. I'm with orange and get unlimited, well its a fair usage policy of 750mb a month but no charge if you go over that. They are merging with t mobile next year I think so there should be some good deals from them. Just have a good search about on all the operator web sites before you commit.
  25. Yeah they coulda missed that last line out, no disrespect to the armed forces boys and girls.
