  1. Some days life just sucks....I get summonsed to the managers office @ 4.30pm this arbo...and told thanx for coming in...due to the credit crunch you are hereby fired. Not even the month notice in the contract...some bulls**t about a years term blah blah... There is only one arborist on the estate now, this against the HS&E regs if he has to climb. You know when youve been tangoed! Anyway, 10 + yrs experience, NPTC 30, 31(a&b)36, 39 and 41 ...Chapter 8. NCH Arb I have been running arb dept for @ 1 yr...report prep Grant apps etc...I am based in central norfolk. I am looking for a decent job if anyone reading this has something ....
  2. It is a most suitably named fungus going by the common names of White trunk rot or sometimes Hardwood trunk rot....a timely fell by all accounts!
  3. Good question m8...If you insist on 1 x tip, 1 hand saw use blah blah but I know what Im doin'.... then you will get hurt at some point I reckon...the choice to work in a safe and responsible way is a matter of proffessional concience and maintaining personal standards.
  4. Frankly m8, the client is within their rights to employ whomever they deem appropriate to complete the works...this not enuff??? He has a tongue in his head if he has indeed got issue with your actions....he didnt get where he is 2day by not taking jobs cos one of his employees didnt like the client kinda thing. As Oliver says, get on and move on.....!!

  12. It is considered rare in this country...appearing on broadleaves... elm, poplar and ash. It is very hard ( the bracket ) apparently...
  13. Beefsteak fungus grows out much higher than that ...pretty commonly at that.... Can this be true....hispidus on oak??
  14. Use a power unit for power pruner and hedgetrimmer.....like it alot...have no probs with it so far ( @ 1 yr )
  15. Slice thinly,finely chopped garlic and shallots and nearly cover with water ( I use beer here!! ) Simmer gently for 10mins then add butter and gently reheat and simmer to reduce to thick sauce. add thyme salt and pepper to taste.....Beefstaek fungus..should be real crunchy!
  16. Ganoderma resinaceum Lacquered Bracket. Bracket 10–45cm across and up to 10cm thick behind, semicircular, sessile, or on a thick rudimentary stem; upper surface concentrically grooved, strikingly glossy as if varnished, red-brown or maroon to almost black, margin obtuse and cream-coloured. Flesh soft, pale wood-coloured. Tubes 5–20mm long, rusty-brown. Pores 2–2.5 per mm, circular, pale greyish bruising brown. Spores brown, ellipsoid-ovate and truncate at one end, 9–11 x 5–7um. Hyphal structure trimitic; generative hyphae with clamp-connections. Habitat on stumps of oak. Season all year. Rare. Not edible.   19. Currently reading The Arboriculturalists Companion... (try saying that after a beer ) NDG James says in the dormant period...he refers to the time of no leaf for deciduous!! There are exceptions and with climate shifts....? The only other comment he makes is about bleeding....... And yeah...he does write about bracing, propping WHU....all pretty basic. Sorry to say but I find this publication, updated in 1990 after 1edition 1972 just a wee bit out of date now. Good basic info but the devil is in the detail and so much of it just doesnt cut it anymore...( ? )
  20. Practical quals ( NPTC etc ) are good nd furthermore essential as increasingly employers are reqired to usequalified staff. IMO, you will find it a bit limiting in years ahead. RFS is a good qual for starters and includes NPTC units as a part of the certificate...check it out....
