  1. Now that I wouldnt have a problem with from the way you describe it......!!
  2. 2 nd shot is tension side....? and does it correspond with first view atall......
  3. Sorry to say mate but if you want to get these things id' perhaps you should try and include some background information....habitat...precise location....other fungi/mushrooms in vacinity...tree species present..perhaps try and give as good as description as you need to vis a vis their appearance. I'm not having a go..I'm jus not sure how much you understand about the process ok!!
  4. I am not saying it is mate....I am not entirely convinced by the photos tbh......the caps are a little too striate perhaps but see what you think.... http://www.amanita-photolibrary.co.uk/photo_library/BI_fungi/Hypholoma_fasiculare.htm
  5. I am wondering how relevant the one day seminars that are currently offered by TreeLife are to the PTI.... I can imagine that, whilst the BS5837 is a significant document the course is probably above and beyond the scope of PTI in a sense...but similarly, I imagine the one day fungi recognition course may well be very relevant ( Depending on your interest/knowledge base). Anybody have informed opinions about this atall? In particular I think...is the fungi course really very basic in relation to PTI?...I hear such contrary views somehow!!?
  6. Mmmmm..Personally , I never trust a man whose eyebrows meet in the middle.... As to trousers...The last two pairs I have had were both replaced foc as the zips failed...first couple of hours in one case.....Stihl acknowledged they had a duff batch on the Hi-Flex...havnt had any dealings with them since...I use them ( hiflex) ok....but not the greatest product probably!!?
  7. Is hard to know what to think eh? Online ID..... mmmm...In my limited knowledge. Phaeleolus schweinitzii could fit...but damn, that is one ugly looking deadbeat bracket...I can smell it from here!!!
  8. Nice one.......
  9. If its that tight in amongst ash canopy, why cant you rig off set-up using ash....the climb wouldnt bother me but riggin' forces are considerable and this will eliminate them entirely.....? Sorry, this thread is taking leftfield turn....!
  10. Hmmmm... Yes, aesthetic, it can ruin a beautiful paysage by late july!!! What are the long term effects of HC, veteran, losing most of its leaves by mid august year after year. I was inspecting an old HC today, had very few leaves in august, warmish october, and now it has a spinkling of young leaves and flowers!! In October!! This observation was posted by a member on here a while ago..as I thought it relevant I am posting it here...
  11. Works for me......
  12. Maybe have a word with Nod @ treeworker....He sells a product and has some experience in the matter ...could be the input you need...... Other products include this company here..... http://www.arboa.com Dr Lothar Wessolly boasts an impressive involvement in bracing innovation but you will have to decide for yourself depending on your specific requirements
  13. Look up a copy of the most recent Hortweek...in which there is an article re this issue ( and innoculation perci ) Here is expressed the opinion that the damage is largely aesthetic...that the problem is not the catastrophe that it may be seen as in some quarters....even in conjunction with the bleedin' canker..... Of course it depends on whose opinion you find yourself agreeing.....Andy Tipping (LTOA) thinks it may be worse...but also of relevance interestingly is the work TreesProject have done over the last few years re tree health inpections with thermal imaging!! I think Marc pretty much gets it here....ultimately we can use our best resources to speculate and inform but I see no point in rushing to a conclusion that would see our landscape altered forever by denuding it of chestnuts ahead of time..... IMO, the jury is still out!!
  14. Thats free enterprise??:scared1:
  15. Interesting info David!!!
  16. quite...wasnt there a thread about the bbc airing about the cedar....completely without teeth imo, I felt insulted to think I pay taxes for such feckless tree officers...Its a disgrace...its pathetic and its depressing!!!
  17. I would post but I keep gettin' timed out and so refused...not just here but with photos also...any help Steve??
  18. The customer is ALWAYS RIGHT....!
  19. I was called out to look at this about a week ago... Quercus ilex which has failed..... http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr170/Bundle2/DSCF0160.jpg And this view from the other side.... http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr170/Bundle2/DSCF0163.jpg I decided it was Ganoderma adspersum based on the physiological characteristics of the fuiting body. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr170/Bundle2/DSCF0175.jpg http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr170/Bundle2/DSCF0157.jpg Typical of this fungus, the basal wood was infected by the parasitic fungus which has modified the wood with some dramatic results....I guess the fungus is not bothered whether the tree is standing or not!! Ganoderma adspersum, causes a soft white rot. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr170/Bundle2/DSCF0158.jpg http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr170/Bundle2/DSCF0162.jpg http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr170/Bundle2/DSCF0164.jpg http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr170/Bundle2/DSCF0167.jpg http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr170/Bundle2/DSCF0164.jpg The soft white rot causes ductile fracture or windthrow after root fracture...which is what happened here. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr170/Bundle2/DSCF0159.jpg This one shows the root mat that appears between the stems at the compression fork, the point of failure... http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr170/Bundle2/DSCF0176.jpg Cool eh....needless to say the chickens are not too happy about it!<<<
  20. What is third one on...a conifer it looks like yeah!!? <><><><>
  21. Certainly not disappointed with mine....I do think people harp on about the cost too much...once you learn of the value first hand in owning and using a harness that is ergonomically designed to adjust to your skeleton and the demands of tree work specifically, I think you will no longer see it as an expense, more an invaluable investment!! Whatever you decide to run with , and there are a few just now, try b4 U buy!...
  22. I guess you got some interesting patients on your watch !! Nice pics too......
  23. There is a huge difference between the law tho' and recommended " best practice ".....I think its always a good thing to refresh training tho'...I only learnt recently that additional NPTC count the same as a refresher.....if that makes sense. For what its worth, your boss is not doing anyone any favours with that outlook....Not the progressive attitude that could so profoundly replace it!!
  24. So it is environmental then as somatic mutation is not likely, competition in terms of "success" or perhaps "results " the way the plant does it is more likely...certainly more adaptable, which I wouldnt say of reversion ( adaptable i mean ) Certainly is a chameleon for a tree!!
  25. Bundle 2

    no fear

    Mmmm.....
