  1. I'd go at least 4", maybe 6" to be sure, at the end of the day its not a heavy winch so you can afford to step it back a bit. just remember that you will feel the weight more when skidding if you lift the butts off the floor. I think mine was about 6" out. Did you look to see if the PTO can be moved up like it can on the 4201?
  2. Like I said Matty, just get some 10mm plate and extend the clevices, you don't need to do the top link one as you can just use a longer link. Having seen the pics I'd just weld the plate over the top of your existing clervices. So if the two existing clevices are 'A' cups you need 'DD' cups.....
  3. I think this thread has degenerated into a bit of a slating. Its somewhat unfair since the manufacturer isn't on here to respond to any criticism. All I can say is that I have found their customer service to be pretty good.
  4. We have a TR6, it has had its problems too but the service has been excellent really. We have never had the stalling issue that you mention so I would say that this is an issue with your machine only...
  5. You can tell by the floor its not done much work. The abuse you describe above is nothing compared to 700 hours of field work... I'd buy it, if I needed one.
  6. I have 60 ton of Birch coming up..... all processor size..
  7. Wonder why we don't see more of this here?
  8. We need to price up porous resin for tree pit surrounds, there are various products available, most involve miging your chosen gravel with a resin bonding agent which glues the gravel together.. Anyone have a favourite one or can share any experiences? Cheers
  9. The reason the dummy is dragged in so fast is that its a drum chipper and the rope has wound onto the drum. If that happens you are in big trouble. Best make sure the rope doesn't go in in the first place.
  10. The new ones have an auto reverse fan on anyway.. Mine does...
  11. Standing up in court and being cross examined by a lawyer is actually a pretty scary thing, you need to be confident in your knowledge for sure. I'd do it again if I was asked, but I don't go chasing that kind of work.
  12. Sounds good, I have ordered bars from rob d so will be all ready to go when they arrive..
  13. I'm waiting for two saws to come back from Spud, another 357 and a 362, it will be interesting to see what they are like once ported.. My other ported 357 was great...
  14. I was working with the new alpine in the woods today. Winched itself up into the windblow to pull back a couple of hung up trees away from the road..
  15. I have appeared in court as an 'expert' (open to debate) witness in a hedge dispute. I charged them good money and we won the case. These things can get very emotional and heated, my advice is don't do anything that is beyond the law. And charge plenty.
  16. Talk about getting the wrong end of the stick.
  17. Hang on a minute, they are stopping you from displaying the logs by a quantifiable volume and asking you to do it by the load instead? Thats crazy!
  18. It will likely cost all of £3k to install a front linkage and PTO will it not? Cheaper to buy a tractor with it already on and sell yours.
  19. The issue is weight rather than power, at 60hp is more than the forst will have. You need to be sure the tractor can lift an 8"pto chipper. There are loads of 6" machines out there that will work fine and with 60hp behind them they will chip a lot more than your average 6" machine which will only have 30-40hp.
  20. Just saw this on FB...
  21. About time! Well done Perth and Kinross! I wish all local authorities were as on the ball as these guys. I wrote a blog on this very subject the other day... Firewood? What is a load? - TD Tree & Land Services
  22. sadly the 190 is no match for the 1928, I'd find a good second hand 1928...
  23. I always run mine at 800. 180 hp is about ideal for the 8-400, you'll go through a few shear pins, but thats what they are for... I had mine on a 210hp new holland on one job, it would do about 100 ton a day.
  24. No need to change the shaft, just run it in 1000 gear and match the revs, you can go to 800 ok. I think it runs better at 750 than 540..
  25. I had an interesting chat with a car dealer yesterday, I noticed he sells vans and mentioned it. " oh yes" he said, "we never used to but when the recession hit car sales dropped so we tried a few vans out of desperation. They sold like hot cakes, it was mostly people who had been made redundant and were going self employed as gardeners..." That says it all really. I priced a job at 480 the other day, she'd had another quote at 180...
