  1. HAHA the Case engineer that used to come to the farm where i worked always used to say "They paint John Deeres green so that they blend in with the hedges when there broken down at the side of the field"....Dont think either of those two would have blended in!!
  2. My former farm employer has many large areas of woodland, that consist of mainly Hornbeam, Field Maple, with a few Oaks and Elm. He has been offered a grant from the council to coppice three of these woodlands. For this winter an area of 75m by 75m (1.4 Acres approx) of each woodland is to be done, coppicing the Hornbeam, Field Maple and felling the dead. Also the larger woodland has a lot of deer activity, the council specification says to "Coppard" the trees there (this means fell them at 6ft), with the deer not being able to eat the new shoots in the spring. (never heard of this before) The problem is that these woodlands have not been touched for about 80-100 years so they are in a mess and the trees are large! All brushwood will be made into heaps and burnt and i will be allowed to use a telehandler and muck grab to make fire heaps about every 3-4 days. The wood will be cut to 3ft lengths and stacked in rows around the woodland. I can take as much wood as i like (farmer wants some too)... But i was just wanting ideas as to what to charge, I was thinking £220 - £250 per day for 2 men, including saws, fuel etc with it taking roughly just over a week to do 1.4 Acres, so about 4 weeks for the lot... What do you all think?
  3. Thoroughly enjoyed looking at those pics.....good job and crappy conditions. Well done lads
  4. Bugger i wudda been up for that, have the day off as my groundie is off on a footie tour, but i have to stay in for my mrs while her new carpets get fitted:sad:
  5. I had this done to me, but i turned up to a job (where id worked before) to prune 3 40ft Pops, the guy wanted 2 70ft Conifers felled as well as an extra and said to bill him whatever it cost...we did and he was happy and paid.....we were then called in 3 months later to put in a path, and patio....when we started he asked for a small wall to be built, steps to be put in and an extension to the path (all as an extra to our quote) we did all this, thinking that he was genuine and when finished he said, holding our Invoice "It looks really great......but im not paying it" I asked why and he said "because I dont have to...nothing is in writing" "take me to court if u want" he gave me a cheque for the original price. I handed it back and said i was goin to get the sledge hammer to take up the extra paving and wall we'd done..."I'll call the Police for tresspassing and criminal damage"....In the end he did pay a little more than the original but we still lost out....Its really not fair how people can be pleased with the work ask for extras and then not pay!!
  6. HERE HERE!!! I feel the same, i missed out too, and didnt realise at first, I have (in my farming days) towed large potato harvesters down A roads with rear wheel steering, long trailers with dolly, even low loaders with other tractors on them....but i cant tow a chipper over 750 Kg...so fraustrating, especially when you see someone with a pre 97 licence who cant reverse a trailer for toffees!!!
  7. My grandad's sister had an 011AV in her shed and gave it to him, i serviced it and its a superb little saw, we used normal 50:1....and im not even a stihl man!!
  8. have had two hilux's, and driven many landrovers, spares are more expensive for the hilux but they are much more reliable! I would always choose the hilux, but then i also run a transit tipper and an ldv....but started off with just a hilux, If you are looking to spend 5 grand then spend less and leave at least 500 for a decent service etc
  9. Thanks for your help, i knew you'd know...will try and get it going when i have some spare time:001_smile:
  10. Great vid, a good one to show how its done....watch your fingers at 4:10 i think it was, where they where awfully close to getting trapped in that gob cut as it closed, done that myself once before - on something smaller thank christ. Nice one Mike:001_smile:
  11. sorry mate i meant i thought that stihl was an 08s.....sorry to hear about your Dolmars:thumbdown:
  12. yeah i thought an 08S too
  13. 357 with 18" bar for comparison
  14. Had a quick look tonight, the fuel pipe from the tank to the carb has disintegrated, no spark and the bar has more bend than an inner tube....just uploading last pics now to show the scale
  15. Oh god sorry for that, gonna kill my mrs for that...wasnt even a recent one!! deleted now and 357 pics on way
  16. My dad is a gardener and one of his old customers (a widow) has an old Dolmar chainsaw....she has asked me to get it going and then might want to sell it.... i said it might be worth a few bob. I cant see a model number on it, although i recon it must be over 100cc, have taken some photos, more to follow when i can scale them down, i tried to get the 660 and 357 beside to show how big it is. The bar is 24":001_tt1:
  17. Im the same...or the blower...my groundy always leaves them off....just think of all the wear on the starter cord for no reason when its pulled and not started just because its switched off!!! Oh and i agree with Matty about the 361 pic....its the wrong saw, the photo has a lot more potential! HAHA
  18. I have the CP 15 and its superb!! I bought it to replace a 20L Hozelock. The CP is a much better sprayer, with its valve to keep the pressure constant and spare parts easily accessible...the only thing that annoys me is that the lance holder on the side of the tank is crap....you clip the lance in, put the sprayer on the shelf in the yard and then the lance falls off!! does it every time!! Other than that i reccomend the CP15
  19. That bench in your avatar looks quality mate, did you make it yourself?
  20. hate the heat...been hedgecutting today though so not too bad.....still been sweating like a reggae band at a KKK meeting!!!! Good news is i got home and my 34" jeans fit me again!!
  21. LOL!!!!!
  22. Nah mate seriously they are great!! and so are the rakes:001_tongue:
  23. I got a deal on the wolf garten metal spring tine....they were £9 each at ernest doe in essex and are not like a spring bock. they have the feel of a plastic rake but with wide metal tines....have bought 2 of these and very impressed, they work well on grass and tarmac and havnt worn down at all yet
