  1. I have a pair of trousers like that.....i save them for climbing rotten trees so the groundies know when i get scared:001_tongue:
  2. One thing i will praise the 660 over the 395 is the chainbreak being a bit stronger as its mounted both sides.. The 660 break would be more robust if you were climbing with it regularly.
  3. I have a 660 and its had a fair few probs, chain adjuster wouldnt tighten properly from new and the oil pump never put enough oil on the bar for more than 25" even when fully opened. I am a fan of the 395XP but power wise there isnt many trees in this country that either saw couldnt manage with some double cutting and a 36"bar
  4. I also went from a Weaver to a treemagic 2 and it is very light, comfortable but does occasionally crush the crown jewels. I have tried adjusting etc but cant seem to get it perfect. Has good tool attachment points and i like the way it has a built in krab that spreads the weight evenly across your back for the saw attachment. I dont really like the small D's compared to the Weaver though and the Weaver was very hard wearing.
  5. The woodland is a few hundred yards from a small narrow road, or across a field to a farm track. I will pass the numbers given to me on to the farmer when i'm back at work in the New Year, as he'll be the one to discuss loading, access on his land etc and price. Thanks for your enquiries and Happy New Year to you all. Ben
  6. From what i can gather all in one go....or maybe 2, but i very much doubt he'd want people taking small loads etc, it wouldnt be worth the hassle for him
  7. It certainly is.....shame i havnt got the room to store much or i'd buy it myself
  8. No No, i agree you really make sense. On the next woodland I'll definitely have a fire every day. Thanks
  9. Its not my timber to sell, the farmer i used to work for owns the woodlands, Im just being paid to cut/stack the timber and clear all the brash. It is only the 3ft cut logs that will be sold. The last woodland will be completed by end of february, but the one i'm in at the mo will be finished on 5th January.
  10. The guy i have been coppicing for has taken a 15 ton trailer load of the wood we have cut but would like to sell the rest. We have coppiced a 1.4 acre area of a woodland near Ongar, Essex. All wood has been cut to 3ft lengths and stacked up (larger than cords though) There is a lot of wood here, 95% Hornbeam and 5% Field Maple. I would say that it would fill at least another 10 trailer loads (15 ton). Also there is 2 other woodlands across the road from this one to coppice 1.4 acres in, so loads more to come. The wood is solid, and the trunks are roughly 12-20 DBH. If anyone is interested please PM me and i'll put you on to the farmer. Many Thanks and Merry Christmas to you all. Ben
  11. We have been felling all the tops into the fire heaps, and i do keep thinking of starting a fire but we only have one day cutting left now in that particular woodland. Will definitely have a fire from start when we start the next.
  12. Steve Pike from Writtle college?, I think Steve Woodley took over from him
  13. Ha ha, my mrs has got me some boot driers for xmas...but im not allowed them yet!! LOL. Have used the t&g cut several times before, its been handy here as there is a greenlane/footpath beside the wood with a stream so any side leaners have had this cut, saves using the winch and it stops the hinge from breaking off sideways, you need to know the limits though, I havnt tried it on anything with too much lean
  14. i think i need to polish them a bit more....hopefully they'll dry out over Xmas so i can get them polished, got 4 more acres to coppice this winter so want dry feet:001_smile: We are borrowing a teleporter/grab from the landowner when we have finished this woodland so wanted to have one big fire, it'd be a pain starting a little fire every day
  15. its a great job yeah, but looking up at the tree as you're falling and getting snow in your eyes, lumps of ice falling off, soaked feet and then getting freezing cold when you stop for a tea break....its not all fun:001_smile:
  16. back to the thread with some coppicing pics, tongue and groove cut, and a couple of bore/release from today....
  17. I've been coppicing Hornbeam/Field Maple for the last few days, mostly 80ft trees with 18"DBH. Im working in the middle of nowhere and have lost count of the number of people who have approached me asking for the wood....we are stacking it up for the land owner to collect in the Spring....One van even turned up beside the wood in the field, guy got out, saw us, ran off and got stuck!! i dont think there will be half as much wood left by the Spring for the land owner to collect!!
  18. thats spot on dean...also the cuts werent horizontal/level
  19. i was thinking that too!!!
  20. I agree, hadnt watched the whole thing....nice collection but a few round files to his collection wouldnt go a miss...not a fan of the 3120 to be honest anyway:thumbup1:
  21. I think the guy could sharpen better!! the 084 was pretty slow i thought to what it could be
  22. Cheers for that, what a great website! next time around i will definitely look into gettong some bits. Anything that can make a job safer is the way forward. Thanks:thumbup1:
  23. yeah, sometimes i put my old Weaver harness on...to give my boys a break!!
  24. Have a look on the Husky website, they have parts list and specs for old saws i believe
  25. I cant seem to get my treemagic2 to stop trapping my plumbs every now and then....anyone got any advice?
