  1. Fourteen joys and a will to be merry...... When Bob Welch was asked what the heck 14 joys and a will to be merry meant? He modestly shrugged saying it was just a lyrical play on words, nothing more. I've pondered it's possible meanings now for four decades, and believe Bob's being a bit too modest by half! My conclusion's that the phrase is analogous to two people, man and woman, each of whom has seven senses, sight, smell, hearing, touch, taste, balance and emotion, meaning together, they're an aggregate of 14 joys and a will to be merry? He's just too modest to cop to it. Jomoco
  2. That Obama, another pro TPP mutated democrat, just took active measures to insure the damage to Hillary's election hopes gets staunched? Will not stop evidence of Hillary's globalist aspirations being published, even if they drone Assange with a mechanized mosquito from the embassy's balcony! Never have I seen such antics and collusion between govt and the MSM. Anyone but Hillary's becoming an obligatory rebel battle cry this election! You cannot stop the establishment, you are in danger, the Russians are coming, only Hillary can save us, blah blah blah. The Cyber-War on Wikileaks Jomoco
  3. Christine McVie's the lass for me... Jomoco
  4. My 394XP's over 20 years old, bone stock n still going strong. Replaced the fuel line a few times and put a new muffler on it, and only feed it high octane fuel mixed with Stihl's silver bottled synthetic mix. Great low rpm high grunt low end torque base cutting beast! If the compression's good? Buy it. Jomoco
  5. Salix Babylonica tea's been used to stimulate new root growth on cuttings from other tree species since biblical days. High humidity's a must as well. I'm thinkin that getting an entire 3-6 inch branch to put off enough roots to sustain itself in hard to propagate tree species like oak n other hardwoods? Apparently two specific acid extracts found in Salix B end growth tips, are necessary to trick the tree just right, one says all hands on deck there's a problem, triggering the other to transform epicormic buds into roots rather than branches. If this year's modest trick a tree test works, next year I'll try n trick an exotic trophy tree. Doing it with a ficus is kinda cheating since they put off support aerials naturally. Mimicking nature's a cool thing. Saving an arm of an otherwise doomed tree would be way cool IMO. It's the tea n humidity that's key!
  6. Steam boil n bubble Make this tree gullible Lizard lips n willow tips A Babylonian brew soluble
  7. With Halloween quickly approaching, I've decided to try and trick my jacaranda tree into growing roots from epicormic buds four feet off the ground. The 3 inch dia trunk section I'm messin with is itself an epicormic sprout about 4 yrs old that I've pollarded at five feet, forming two callus heads, the lower callus head now encased in potting mix. Ideally once enough roots have formed, I can whack entire mess off at three feet below the new rooting container, and be planted in the ground. May seem a bit goofy n asinine, but that's never stopped me before!
  8. I'm dangerous....cuz I'm a fool for love..... Jomoco
  9. Thanks Mario! I rather like the religious analogy of these ghosts being sin eaters, full of heavy metals. Mighta known you'd already be well aware of these ghosts in our midst! Great stuff mate! Jomoco
  10. Have you heard of Ghost Redwoods Mario? Little albino sequoias with no chlorophyll? WaPo has a fascinating science article on them. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/speaking-of-science/wp/2016/10/07/the-mystery-of-the-ghost-trees-may-be-solved/ Such underground socialistic rooting characteristics are not that surprising IMO. But the sequoia genome containing 10X more complexity than our human genome? Has me somewhat flabbergasted! Any pics of a ghost to round out your collection mate? Jomoco
  11. This election's like being inside a propaganda funnel to a sewer. Trump's gonna quick fry Wiley Coyote dissidents. Hillary's gonna boil em n clip their wings. We're gonna keep bombin Muslims to death in their own countries till they learn to like us! Where's the peace n mind your own bidness candidate? Get your own friggin house in order first candidate? Get off n stay off the course GWB put us on to rule the world by force of arms or bust? Jomoco
  12. This WaPo science article lends credence to the OP's findings. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/speaking-of-science/wp/2016/10/07/the-mystery-of-the-ghost-trees-may-be-solved/?hpid=hp_hp-more-top-stories_ghosttrees-615pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory Never heard even a whisper about "ghost" redwoods prior to reading that article. Absolutely amazing any tree can grow or function whatsoever without chlorophyll. I'll get by with a little help/sugar from my friends! Jomoco
  13. God I miss that manual oiler button running 6 foot bars in dead euc! Why Stihl, why! Give me an 084 any time....please. Jomoco
  14. With both my sons involved in Sony's VR headset's public release this month, the more convinced I am that VR technology just a bit more advanced than this, will soon be used for job training courses, including the tree biz. The more advanced VR tech firms are already using empty rooms and high speed computer interfaces, coupled to more elaborate control harnesses and motion sensors, to create a world realistic enough to distinguish a pro from an amateur in a variety of professions IMO. Ironically my having steered all my children as far away from this bloody biz as possible, may go full circle on me and enmesh my boys in the long run. As long as their involvement's from a remotely controlled robot in the field reality? Otherwise forget it! I distinctly remember that gut feeling realization I had at the top of my game doing big dead conifer removals for the celebrities with beach front properties on the Lake Arrowhead shoreline, catching bigwood with a Hobbs, making real good money. That if I continued onward at that level of difficulty long enough? It was simply a matter of time before some unseen trunk or underground rooting defect, put me in an early grave. Kinda the better you get in this biz, the more likely you are to be involved in the most dangerous aspects of it. That's why they'll pay five bills a day. So they can live long enough to enjoy their retirement! Logger's got replaced by feller bunchers lads! We're next in line. Jomoco
  15. I can see how it may have happened in my mind's eye now. Lanyard above speedline trunk anchor, tied into the upper piece being speedlined, it goes over tugging you, you grab for your lanyard, just as your bodyline slips free of the piece, now upside down, just as your lanyard grab inadvertently pops it over the trunk Top? Leaving you alone to fall 45 ft, lanyard, bodyline, chainsaw n all, as the piece zipped down the line. I can see it now. Here's to a quick n complete recovery mate! Jomoco

    Emigrating

Despite my father's vile treatment of my mother, I love the man dearly for having the balls to get the hell out of N Carolina, and into California, with an entire brood of ten kids. Takes a lotta guts to roll the dice like that. So happy it worked well for you too Reg! Steady on mate! Jomoco
  17. I can remember three situations where I had to intervene to stop disaster, once from the ground, twice from the tree. Mid 80's, from the ground watching a fellow climber cutting the wrong leader of an intertwined crossover, unaware he was cutting the leader he was tied into. Had to bean him pretty hard with a rock to stop him. Mid 90's, while training and tutoring my older brother to prune big eucs with no gaffs, on Torrey Pines Golf Course. I had just tied into the top of a big euc when I looked over to see how my brother was doing pruning the tree next to mine. To my horror, he was making his way out to the end of a lateral the same height as his TIP, which leaned out in the same direction as the lateral, unaware that his TIP was inching upward and outward following him and about to slip off the top of the leader altogether. Fortunately he heard me screaming at him to look at his TIP about to follow him to his death! Early 2000's, again from the top of a big euc, I looked down and saw a rookie temp groundie, disobeying my orders to only drag brush to the whole tree chipper and stage it, and let only the lead groundie feed it into the chipper. It was a macho thing cuz he was a burly muscle bound 240 lb dude, while the lead groundie was a little 160 lb munchkin like me. So I look down and watched as big boy grabbed a big leader and fed it into the chipper, and stand there as it flipped over violently, knocking him off his feet, and dragging him by the knee towards the feed table, in increments due to the autofeed of the 1800 chipper. So I whistle at the lead groundie and point towards the chipper, whereupon he made a heroic sprint to engage the safety bar, just as the feedwheels grabbed his knee. Off to urgent care for a dozen or so stitches. An extremely close call narrowly avoided by good teamwork n signaling between the lead groundie n I. Stay in this biz long enough and you'll experience lotsa high adrenaline fueled moments of sheer terror! Jomoco
  18. I have remained tied into the crane to allow more comfortable cutting of real fat trunk picks with a big saw, stopping about a foot shy of release, then pulling my line and tying into the trunk, then completing the release cut. Cutting with big saws on big wood's so much easier suspended from your lower saddle rings, than your upper rings n lanyard, on the wall. Had my lead groundie trained to calm the newbie groundies screaming he's still tied to the crane! This biz only requires a momentary lapse of critical thinking to kill or maim. Hope you recover quickly and completely mate. Jomoco
  19. They are symbiotic association at its very finest! The noblest living thing on this planet! Enough to make you into an awakened Druid! Jomoco
  20. Jepson's take on the inherent dangers of SRT mirror mine. http://allabouttrees.com/wp-content/uploads/guides/climber/Single_Rope_Technique_SRT.pdf As long as you truly get the force multiplier affect, and only use redirect points capable of withstanding those forces? No problem. Otherwise, you might get hoit. Jomoco
  21. Makes more sense as a tooltruck, than a chiptruck IMO. I could fill that expensive little thing with one crane pick! Jomoco
  22. Can we make it last.....or will it just be over.... Jomoco
  23. I think few would argue there aren't two sides, to views of every news story. The US once had The Fairness Doctrine to insure every federally licensed broadcaster gave free airtime to opposing views and opinions, or lose their broadcast licenses. Legislated out of existence during the raygun era, for a reason, it's far easier to hate a contrived enemy, the less you know about them, their lives, their justifications for fighting with any means at hand, to expell perceived invaders of their countries, wielding superior technology with deadly precision. Whether globalist ambitions are good or bad's still a hotly debated question, far from any peaceful resolution IMO. This link provides an opinion on the globalist mindset that's rather sinister, but shared by many nonetheless. Globalism Is Anti-Christ, Demonic, Theologians Argue Jomoco
