  1. Hi fellas, thanks for your replies. It isn't near any water. It is a back garden tree about 3 metres from a neighbouring property. Hi Andrew nice to see you on the forum. Hope you are well.
  2. Morning folks, had a look at a lime tree on friday that is showing signs of low vitality in the upper crown. It is loosing quite a lot of bark in the lower crown, has stem bleeds & has what i believe to be Kretzchmaria on the stem but none around the base. I would appreciate your thoughts & opinions. Many thanks, Sorry about the poor quality pics.
  3. Has there been changes/disturbance within the rooting environment in the past year or so?
  4. Is that a newly constructed footpath under the canopy?
  5. This is quite common with beech trees, looks like the tree has grown this way for extra support where needed?
  6. Nice pics. I had to dismantle a beech tree around ten years or so ago & whilst making my way to the top i found a duck with eggs in an old cavity. Luckily the tree was in a park & we managed to get a safe area fenced off till they fledged. We then brought the tree down to a 10m stump & ducks returned the following year to nest. I wish i took some photos now!
  7. I am also thinking about studying for the level 6 in the near future but after the punishment I endured trying to get through the Tech Cert I reckon my Mrs will leave me if I put her through all that again Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  9. Well done Paul! I knew you would get there in the end & welcome to the club:001_smile:
  10. Good luck with that! Most of the people I saw there looked like they belong on the Jeremy Kyle show & the town reminded me of Beirut! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. He's going to Merrist Wood. I am in Chatham on Monday so we can meet then. I surveyed 800 + trees in Twydall two months ago. Where abouts are you surveying down there? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  12. Hi Paul. I forgot too. I was down Rochester way today, Chelsea & Blackheath tomorrow then i've a tree condition survey to carry out the rest of the week. I'm across into Kent again next Monday or Tuesday if that's any good? I have the reading list from the Tech Cert & i hope it isn't too different but you never know. There is two or three books out of print at the moment & i wonder if there is a prefered alternative?
  13. Evening all. A friend of mine had to retire from tree work due to back problems & is finding it hard to get back into work. He is going to study for his level 4 next Sept to help him get back into the industry & have a manager/surveyor role. I was wondering if anyone out there would be kind enough to send me the reading least so he can look into getting the literature required sooner rather than later as funds are low for him at the moment & he could spread the costs throughout the next few months. Many thanks, Glen.
  14. Hi all, Sorry that I haven't been in touch lately but I was involved in a crash with a 20 ton grab lorry that wrote off my brand new Fiesta van which resulted in me being taken to hospital & having to have 6 weeks of physio & and another 4 to go so work & home life have been a little hectic since then. I have been in touch today with Dr Sandra Denman from the Forestry Commission & I have some news. In summary, they finished the analysis of the samples first taken & they are surprised at the results. They found the AOD bacteria associated with the lesions. They also found some fungi particulary Fusarium solani & these (from memory) are associated with brown streaking in the vascular tissues. The site was visited again a couple of weeks ago & resampled some of the trees & are in the process of analyzing those samples. We are know looking to see if the trees were imported from Europe or are they of local provenance & home grown right through. In conclusion at this stage, the Forestry Commission has said this is one of the youngest set of trees they have ever isolated the bacteria from - and this is very worrying. They need to have more information about origins & planting conditions as well as a deeper look for insect damage. However, if AOD is the primary cause of the problem then its devastating, they have never seen such mangled trees. Be patient. I will update soon.
  15. It might be an idea to travel up the night before, perhaps b&b? or failing that there might be someone kind enough & close enough on here that could help you out with a bed every Tues night? When I was there we had a student fly over from Spain every Tuesday & stay at the college. All the best & hope it works out for you.
