  1. All to do with insurance and liability. If we employ climbers then we supply the kit. There can be no possibility of confict arrising in the event of an accident or claim. Take the kit Monkey any climber that uses the kit after you is no climber at all if he is prepared to climb on used kit. I write it of as a loss and carry on!!!!
  2. Wouldnt use a double handed assender an a srt these are designed primarily for doubled rope techniquies. Not really caught on here yet really as a bit to fussy for us tree folk. One handed is great leaves the other to advance friction device. Attaching yourself to the grcs and groundie on the handle can be a quick way up.
  3. Hand assenders require an additional back up grap device either prussic or mechanical. Please remember not to climb whilst only supported by an assender.
  4. Its called assured footlocking i think errrr maybee
  5. Always use the Frog Technique myself passed on from old caving days. Footlocking is a great method for advance but due to ergonomics and the amount of energy used in making an ascent it should be avoided. I use a hand assender and pantin for both feet to be effective and a rope grab to advance as it does not lock up under load A tape from hand assender to belt will give an additional back up as fall protection.
  6. Plasma rope rated to about 10 tons i think!!
  7. Sounds like the NPTC and some training providers are on the scam again. Sounds like the training industry has gone quiet and they are generating more costs!!!
  8. Distel hitch n pulley. Use this system as can be turned to to a one man rescue haul if needed, unlike the old prussic loops. End on end is an exellent system for fast low entrance tree climbing and extreame positioning out on limbs. Otherwise i use a double isc pully as a redirect in cases of large swing angles. Climb the tree not the ropes!!!!
  9. Yes best practice advises a knife is carried at all times!!
  10. Our throughts go out to Scotts wife and family at this terrible time. God Bless
  11. Stilhl have just brought out a bar file moulding. Jonsie sells a nice blue one give him a try!!!
  12. Try proclimber the sell a 100mm soft link. Bridge gap with crab and micro grab is about 80mm. They are doubled over for extra strength.
  13. mmm smile everyone
  14. lol thats five zeros
  15. Cheers Pete for clarification.
  16. Afternoon a forestry thread for once. I make charcoal used to use those old clamps too is a horrible job but the money is good. Alder is great in those old burners but birch produces the best in our retorts Will post you a pic
  17. Pay myself ha ha ha ha......ha ha last year i took just over well 5 figures have seen some people prices and think i should charge more!!
  18. 200mm softlink too long 60/80 better as less chance of accidently severing the weak link. Have been climbing on Jonsies set up for years works really well and allows the micro assender to twist freely. Have Geko 3 way on link
  19. Hate to tempt fate, but all this loler crap, having you r kit tested by someone whos kit looks far worse than yours. I had an inspection done once hid all my real kit gave him the most basic bits. Never been checked on in 10 years and never had a bit fail. Loler is a way of shedding responsibility for equipment faliure on to us, directly as climbers. Let us not forget the HSE will prosecute if they can find any way of blaming us. Sure you will all disagree but personally as a profesional climber if feel insulted by the fact that some no mark belives i cannot check my own kit. Not sure although correct me if things have changed but loler does not cover rigging as its lowering not lifting???
  20. Use the mini mill for your side cuts once you have taken your first through cut. Use to use a latter when i started. Now i sit the alaskan on a mill frame for convienience and push it a long the rails, works a treat and cuts are more accurate
  21. Money in trees ha ha ha ha ha ha Actually there is but you have to learn how to make it. Cut it convert it see it to those who think anything that comes from the forest is simply gorgeous darling.
  22. Will be a good course there among the better people to learn from dude.
  23. Shame you missed the cheek cuts. Well someone had to say!!
  24. 180 230 200 200t 361 460 660 have an 88 but bloody thing weighs a ton. Mid range saw is definatly 361 for small to medium hardwoods. Glad to hear everyones becoming so fond of the 460. It makes the 441 look like a pile of ol pants and you can push the bar size much further than stihl make out.
