  1. My main point about working in the wet is the safety issue, not whether you mind getting wet or your workers mind getting wet. Profit comes second to safety. Why anyone would want to take down a slimy Sycamore in the pishing rain when the forecast is good for the next day is beyond me. This year has been unprecedented for rain, I got wet about three times this year, but previous to that I reckon I have got my gear wet about three or four times in ten years. Please just take this as my personal thoughts and not a dig at you but, I just think its so easy to reschedule jobs to fit round the weather (this year may be an exception) that to work on big jobs or climbing jobs in the phishing rain is either down to desperation or greed
  2. That's why I choose not to go down the complicated route, why have all that hassle for the same money. I,ve seen bigger firms pricing against each other to take down big roadside tree for next to nowt just to cover their over heads. Why have all that hassle when you can trim mrs smiths hedges for twice the money. I have got to the point now where I just let them get on with it and chuckle to myself how hard they make it for themselves
  3. A firm called Insurity, if you don't make a claim, you get back all you have paid in after 12 years
  4. I've managed and I've a load of kit to maintain ?????
  5. The statement of the objection comes across as a little personal to me, maybe just me ??
  6. I can point out a good example of what I would consider a ludicrous tpo decision and I'm sure there will be hundreds more examples that people can give This decision lost me a friend because he saw it as my fault that he is now stuck with 100 shitty leylandii as a little forest in the last half of his garden because I enquiried as to their status
  7. It is an easy job for an engineer, but the most important part is aligning the bearings and shimming correctly to ensure no constant side load
  8. I have managed for years without getting my kit wet, if it's raining do ground work or logs It is very important that kit is dried out properly and not left damp, fabric and stitching can degrade and weaken
  9. Yes.... Why else would you want to remove the moisture
  10. Ring barking the tree with leaves still on removes the moisture very quickly ???
  11. Again, the issue here must be timing . Why not look at the time of the tpo enquiry, why do it weeks later when works had commenced and the timing would have the biggest financial impact for the contractor
  12. No worries Gethin. Sorry about the Yorkshire Rain. I hope it does you proud
  13. I,ve been recommending they leave the cherries while next year, I reckon they'll just leaf up as normal, they will just show a narrow growth ring for this year when they eventually do have to come down in 40 years or so (-;
  14. No worries mate, you got a hose pipe, I'll swill it off for you ? If there's cars down wind, warn them, it's up to them to move them as long as you have made efforts to prevent it then alls good
  15. They are taking advantage of the fact that oil prices are set to jump to record levels and electric and gas bills go up by 10% and the firewood suppliers haven't clicked on yet. I,m saving all my logs till the season starts, not selling them off cheap too early
  16. Higher quality, higher prices and smaller turnover. High volume, low prices, small profit margin = knackered equipment, knackered operator and a larger fuel bill for delivery Not good business, you could earn more using the days to do tree work. I just produce good quality logs, guaranteed to be dry and stick a good price on them that covers their production, storage, delivery, depreciation and wages, i sell very few early on but find its the same customers coming back for more then later when everyone has sold theirs for silly money the phone starts ringing Anyone donkey can be busy, making a fair profit is where the skill comes in
  17. So you've been going to the toilet more often instead of holding on to it then Steve (-; I've gone from 100kg to 90kg
  18. The site visitor and hit count would be a mighty depressing sight should every thread be efficient and accurate with no differing views. I,d be nodding off every two minutes, boring mundane sites are not my cup of tea. Perhaps you and Sorenson should start a club ?
  19. I found this site very usefull and informative with its speciific controls section. Progreen Weed Control Solutions, suppliers of agricultural, horticultural and amenity chemicals
  20. Dr,s do actually decide, they fill in a DNR form Do not resucutate
  21. My 450 had the same problem and it turned out to be the gauze filter inside the carb. If you take the carb off it's under the cover plate held on with the single screw in the middle of the plate. Sometimes they look clean but if you get a magnifying glass you may see the gauze screen blocked with very fine particles
  22. I only know one person with a pony tail and he's a martial arts expert, so I think pony tails rock (-;
