  1. It brings the knife down to contact the log with no pressure, as long as the pedal is pressed the ram doesn't do the return stroke, you can keep it pressed and squeeze the control levers to do the power stroke
  2. A small builders trowel or Guaging trowel is perfect for the job and has another use in clearing soil away from around the base of stumps so double value
  3. Best thing for steadying and levelling ladders on a slight slope is a hessian sandbag and stand the ladders directly ontop of it
  4. I wouldn't get my mewp out for that....ladders
  5. I've just measured the one I have which is Fenner 19.2mm small end 24.14mm large end and overall length is 3.5 inches
  6. What is the shaft size, I ask because I have a coupling in the garage ....and if not I buy them here http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/browse.jsp?N=1001752
  7. Just a word of warning to some, I have had quite a few customers, especailly log customers, who have come to me for tree work and logs because of my posts on here and my stance re topping etc. Saying that, I have probably lost a few customers too
  8. Ask to test the 500 Jon, but make sure you go to the toilet first
  9. Too fast for you Rob [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaWoo82zNUA]YouTube - Top Gear - Ariel Atom - BBC[/ame]
  10. I would test the moisture content of the soil beneath the conifers, soil depth can vary over a matter of feet, you only have to look at lawns to see the dramatic effect soil depth variation can have. Most of the conifers I have come across like this have been due to shallow soil and dryness and that is despite wet summers If the soil appears dry an irrigation system wouldn't do any harm
  11. My logs were down at 20% in the open barn but because we have had a couple of weeks of high air humidity they have gone back up to 28%, even under cover
  12. Not a very good description bearing in mind the price. I would have expected a detailed description, history and a diagram of the working envelope. The thing I would want to know second to the working height is outreach. It's no good having 32m with a rubbish outreach
  13. ....and he would have danced and sung a song first
  14. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFVU9Dl6riI&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - Stihl Chainsaw[/ame]
  15. What, you mean fireproof jimjams
  16. 0-60 in 2.6 seconds, I can price a lot of jobs in one day with it
  17. Not one for doing the shopping in 350BHP Might buy the 500 BHP one next year
  18. I only ask because a lot of craning vids I have seen, ( not saying reg's) have been step cuts. So the reason behind cutting straight thru is you have some forewarning of whats happening re pretension on the lift ??
  19. Change of tactics on that one Reg.....cutting straight thru ??
  20. We know it was intentional, it said so in the vid, that didn't stop the butts nearly knocking him out a couple of times It's ok to be pinned to the tree and suffer fatal internal injuries as long as you dont shock load the piece being lowered ??? You do come out with some funny things
  21. Point blank with an air pistol with no pellet in works a treat
