    I think that if new product are to be brought out they should be radically different. One area that can be improved upon is the contact area of the rope to the bollard. Rope laying across a flat surface has very little surface area of the rope in contact with the bollard (something like 20-30%) which makes it less efficient. If you could get more surface area in contact, you would be spreading out the heat dissappation and stresses on the rope. In effect, by doubling the surface area of the rope in contact with the bollard, you could reduce the size of the whole device, increasing contact surface area is quite simple

    It's the hire firms responsibility knowing the nature of the work. Tree Guy : "What make and model of platform will you send us?" Hire firm: "A 30m ariel lift truck mount" Tree Guy: "Oh spot on, I have a guard in my garden shed for just that model of basket"

    I dont understand how you can drop your price, I never have.. I price the job at what it costs for my particular overheads, unless I dont particularly want the job

    This is why small woodlands will become ever cheaper. There was a bit of a drive for private individuals to buy small parcels of woodlands for their own recreational use and enjoyment. In reality, with the blame culture, all you are buying is liability. Someone I know bought a large woodland bordered by hundreds of houses, I told him at the time he was crazy. All he gets week in week out is residents contacting him about over hanging branches, trees blocking light and falling branch complaints I couldn't wait to get rid of my woodland with public access and replace it with one without public access

    Thanks guys The avenue belongs to a hall which is one of my neighbours and is about 200m long and looks absolutely stunning when they bloom. They have been neglected and although they have had horse damage on one side, I think some are showing a little sparseness due to the amount of rubbing branch wounds they have. I have had a good look at all of them and they show now signs of brackets or fungus of any kind

    I have been asked to work on an avenue of about 50 small cherry trees. I have initially removed some failing branches which had been badly damaged by horses They haven't been touched in years and need crossing and rubbing branches removing and the odd rogue leaders reducing back. I would say about 15 -20% on each tree but want to carry out the work at the optimum time to mimimise the stress on the trees ?

    I spent hours working out weights on this one. If you do a drawing of how you want your box to be, then do a cutting list of the metal and size of the sheets you require, there are a lot of suppliers that give the weights per foot or metre of each material they sell. I work the latest one out using mild steel, 40mm x 80mm x 2.5mm box section and 1.5mm steel sheet with 2mm sheet for the bottom 1ft of the box to give it a bit more strength. I intend leaving the tipping bed it has on now so the weight is just for the box on top with an open top and vinyl cover over, worked out at 240kg worth of steel. Which is the same as all the 19mm plyboard, steel drop sides and headboard that I would be throwing away. So no extra weight gain Service metals in leeds has weights of glassonite boards on their website

    Yes I have caught them live before by waiting patiently till the mound moved, then quickly sweeping the mound to one side. I was trying this to try and get them to surface where my two spaniels were waiting They are causing havoc on a grassed area I have down at my yard, so much so the ground is giving way when you walk across it. I might have to resort to trapping them. I want to catch some live ones to release in a garden of a customer that treated me like dirt last year

    Those trees are starting to form heads and will "if managed" look well. But my point is.... why cut off one branch that is spoiling a view and let it be replaced by ten The key is management, but we all know that doesn't happen
