  1. Rigging small branches can still be done safely. All you need to do is attach two small slinges together on the branch, cut inbetween, let the branch stub take the load, then slowly take the weight from the basket whilst watching your over load light, if it comes on you can just release the branch back onto the slings, if not, release the slings and slew to your drop zone. MEWPs have thier place, I own one and have done everything you can possibly do with a mewp including survive a fall from one. However I still carry out 95% of jobs without it. Most of the time it is the extra cost of the mewp which dictates whether it is used or not. Prolific use of a mewp is lazy, but I would much rather disc down a huge stem with a 660 from my basket, than I would off spikes
  2. If you can sell us a few tickets at say....£100 each ?? I'd be up for it
  3. I was in a woodland strimming rides on a very still calm day. I heard a crack and thought it was a gunshot, so ignored it and put my ear defenders back on... Few seconds more strimming heard another crack....switched off the strimmer...and listened...heard a loud creaking sound then saw a 70ft mature oak falling straight toward me. I simply walked to the side and it missed, luck was on my side that day.
  4. I remember buyng a gallon for my off roader at 50p
  5. Who says it's not allowed ...and is it law ...will I get fined or locked up "One handing" is no more dangerous than walking the dog.. You choose whether or not to introduce danger into chainsaw operations, that is the problem The same problem occurs with normal chainsaw use, you can use one quite safely should you choose or you could stand over your saw with your face a foot away from the chain all the time, to introduce a little danger, it's your choice
  6. I've got the nokia 3720 for 14 months and had no problems with it, fits nicely into my side trouser leg pocket, gets sawdust in the little sockets but a blow with the airline sorts that
  7. This is mainly to get the Yew hedge I plan for my boundary established quickly as possible, I'm 47, I don't have 10-15 years to spare waiting for it to establsih naturally nor do I have the spondulies to shell out for a ready grown hedge
  8. Definately...! I used to get arrested without fail every time I got drunk on tetleys......I switched to drinking lager and I haven't been arrested for nearly thirty year
  9. I think if this works, there'll be a good market for large cheap Yew hedging and even start growing my own replacement trees etc instead of having to buy them in at container grown prices Buy trees as plugs and force grow them or maybe it's not good to force grow a deciduous tree?
  10. Ended up buying a 250w HPS sodium lamp as the led's were rubbish Just thrown all my cutting in the little wagon back this morning under the lamp, snow and all Put in a thermostat to monitor highest and lowest temps and have put them straight onto 18 hours on 6 hours off. It might shock them a little but they'll survive. I've left the door unlocked so the busies can have a peek should I not be in
  11. A cord run around the side of the tractor cab, through the side engine cover and to the injector stop lever is just a little bit of a bodgey and primative safety device for my liking. I would prefer something that stops instantly rather than waiting for the engine to die. It wouldn't take much engineering to introduce a dog clutch with a safety bar which when pushed would knock the drive line out instantly Simple things save lives and limbs
  12. I'll start by hand but will have to look into automation. Does it work on a moisture probe or just water tray level?
  13. Can we have a cord mat / brash mat forum please
  14. I would take six scaffold boards and drive over them moving the rear set to the front etc, you wont leave a mark.
  15. The led grow lamps are 90% more efficient than HPS (high pressure Sodium) they actually use very little energy, hardly worth bothering about. I think growers will be moving onto the led systems very soon, although the better ones are quite expensive at the moment
  16. I'll be using the new LED type lamps which are very low heat output, probably just enough heat to keep them at a stable temperature in winter, no more. But the roof of the lorry back is translucent, so it will glow at night like blackpool illuminations. It might be a good idea to black it out to avoid any passing interest
  17. Grown from seed ? Where did you get the grow bags from ?
  18. See, you can tell which people on arbtalk are harbouring dark secrets, I personally did not know what the term meant
  19. I'll leave a few of the already established cuttings I took last year out and see....good idea Rob
