  1. When I have finished the new yard, I reckon the cost of making it secure will be around £6500, need to sell some logs to get that back The Police have asked if I mind them putting an advert in the local rag asking for witness's
  2. I think Theft is theft, whether it's 10p worth or £10000 worth. I'll push it as far as I can because I reckon this car is responsible for a lot of logs going missing.
  3. I've just put the reg number into google and the car was sold recently by the toyota dealer near me. I reckon with a bit of blagging it wouldn't be difficult to get a name and address. This time I'm pushing for prosecution They are taking rings because they have cleaned me out of split stuff. I had about three bulk bags of split stuff left to see me through. I went down yesterday to get some and they've all gone. I've just had to phone the police back because I gave them the wrong reg number. I gave them the reg number of an old bloke who has my blessing to take specific logs I leave for him. I had wrote his number on the same bit of paper. I had images in my head of the poor sod getting his front door kicked in
  4. A previous customer walking their dog near my yard saw a couple helping themselves to my logs and took the cars reg number. I've been down to see what was taken and it turns out this particular couple are responsible for taking logs for quite some time. They use the same spot and make it hard for themselves by climbing over the fence in the same place and throw them back over the fence. I've phoned the police and reported it because these are persistant theives and need sorting. Apparently a Police officer will visit me withing the next few days
  5. Delta design securidled 6 led like these are super bright, excellent for what we do but expensive at around £90 per light [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0xBsGrEA64]YouTube - Delta design led landrover securiled[/ame]
  6. Would it not be viable to get a group buy organised in your area
  7. I have the MS200, the only problem is when you are working with other tree surgeons, they are always "borrowing" it and you never get a look in, which in itself says something about the saw
  8. If your going to do it, your better off just emailing your LA and police with your qualifications, and health and safety policy telling them you will come out for a standard rate and not charge silly emergency call out rates. Just ringing the police will get you nowhere, as far as they are concerned you could be some diy bloke with a B&Q chainsaw and a pair of ladders, wanting to have a go and get killed in the process. They wont call you out because then they would be liable for employing you should anything go wrong and you turn out to have no qualifications for storm damage trees
  9. I love my little MS171 for snedding for the chipper, uses hardly any juice
  10. You could still get past it Tom, that's why the LA would have left it till monday, couldn't let their cups of tea go cold for a low priority job Woody.....we have all done little freebie jobs and the odd tree blocking the road job, just dont let them run you ragged and take advantage, there's always the danger of people taking advantage of your good nature. You are just a telephone number to big authorities and you will not get any thanks. Do it for your village, do it for your niegbours by all means
  11. It is to some.. Just as you rely on normal tree work to feed your family, others rely on council work and emergency work to feed theirs.
  12. Very noble Woody, good on you. But you should charge, the police don't work for nowt, why should you ?
  13. Hahaa, Cool Cary...I was beginning to wonder, there's more kit on your harness than there is in my climbing bag
  14. Missus, "Why are you on Arbtalk again, your always on Arbtalk" Me, "It's to do with work love" So there you go Mike, I'm working
  15. The only thing I have on my harness is my climbing line setup, if I need anything else I have it sent up. Your harness looks like it should be hanging from a christmas tree
  16. Ironically, went back today to finish the job off and the shed is absolutely wrecked, the winds have totalled it
  17. The bin and the blue container were both water butts full of water, no water was spilled
  18. They both have two things in common... 1. With experience, they can both be done perfectly safely 2. Without experience or with stupidity, they can both be dangerous I can cut and hold like a true pro
  19. I did a little experiment yesterday trying to use the 200t with two hands all the time whilst dismantling a large Oak and came to the conclusion that it is sometimes down right dangerous to try and position yourself whilst keeping two hands on the saw and also out of the way of the branch. The senario was really long branches (25ft+) going out over a roof on the Oak away from a stem which was leaning quite a lot out toward the roof. I was on spikes, I had been out on the branch to put the lowering rope on balance point I was then going to put in a vertical gob to swing the branch in from over the roof. The rigging worked perfect and branches came over really nice. The problem was getting the gob and back cuts in. I obviously wanted to be ontop of the leaning stem so I didn't swing round it and underneath. To get a good work position was very difficult, you would have had to go below or level with the cut, guess you were doing the gob right, check it then move round the other side of the stem to do the back cut. You would then have put yourself in a position where you could have copped it from the butt breaking away. I did the gob from above with my knees level with the cut using two hands forming one part of the gob then one hand for forming the other, which was still difficult. Then move out of the way to above the cuts and finished with the back cut with one hand whilst holding on to a branch with the other so I could get out of the way fast I reckon it would have been dangerous to try and do it with two hands I could probably have done the hinge farther out on the branch to make it a little easier but then I'd be leaving a pegs which would have to be also rigged down or hand held
  20. Yes, Ben has had some more today as well and possibly some more tommorow. It's a five day job, dropping 4 big trees and nearly all the shrubs clearing on the property and it's a big property
