  1. New splitter arrived today and the smaller 10.5 ton was picked up and taken back. Thanks to M.Large for their good service First two are the new splitter, third is the one I sent back. The big one is super fast compared to the smaller one
  2. I have the above tractor and when driving it today it was making a bit of a squeeling noise, couldn't tell where it was coming from. I left it on the drive ticking over when the engine suddenly started labouring as if under load. I jumped in to turn it off and there was a light on on the dash on the far right, which looks like a pot with an arrow coming in from either side and a dashed line at the bottom. Does anyone know what it is ? I carefully drove it back to the yard and there was still a slight squeal every now and again but it obviously needs looking at asap. I just need to know what the light is first
  3. It's an 18 ton Dave, I ordered it with the foot pedal, side extensions and 4 way, I think it stands me at about £3200 The ram speed it about the fastest they do and it is auto double speed. In other words you pull the levers and it comes down fast till it touches the log, then if needed goes into a slower power speed till the initial break then back to full speed. So in fuel terms......as efficient as you can get
  4. You'll have to make do with a picture for now, it's going to take a bit of practice on this one to get it to top efficiency BTW Delabodge, I got a four way head for it to make it more efficient, so now it splits four at a time
  5. Mick...we can save the world together mate
  6. Now your coming round to my way of thinking There are far too many scratters, scroungers and layabouts for my liking. People perfectly capable of earning their way in life but choose not to. As for fuel....I've just saved a bit by walking down to the yard to get my tractor out and bring it up home for when M Large deliver my brand spanking new splitter......cool beans I will then be able to split logs and save on gas and eventually the world will be safe because of me
  7. But do the passengers really need three or four holidays a year or a second house in france. Or bog off to spain to lounge on a sunbed at the side of a pool with drunken brits all round them. The choice is obviously theirs, but dont moan about paying more than £9.99 to fly to france with peasyjet. Plane fairs should be whacked up to double
  8. I'd love to see how they plait the inner core and bury it whilst keeping the rope diametre the same with no lumps. I think we should get a group of geeks together, buy a load of crates of beer and organise an arbtalk Yale factory visit. Even if we dont learn anything, we can get rat arsed
  9. Most disabled or elderly are looked after or can be looked after, many are not claiming what they are entitled to because they are either too proud or simply haven't been informed. My problem on that issue is there are far too many people claiming who dont need it and not enough people claiming who guenuinely do need it. That can be sorted by a cull of the bone idle wasters that rape the system But in the mean time I think Marks idea may work Road tax is a very unfair system how do we sort that out Mark ?
  10. Again, I am not whinging about fuel prices, I think fuel is too cheap and I'm quite happy paying for what I use, whatever vehicle I drive. Perhaps if people were more conservative with fuel it might not be as dear as it is now. Putting prices right up doesn't get cars off the road. It stops people using their cars for petty journeys which they dont really need to do. I am guilty, I went to pick up a package which stevie sent down with someone to manchester for me with a mate. It was a two hour round trip in the mini. It should have really been posted to me which creates delivery jobs and it would be delivered by a delivery van which is on the road anyway and would have been cheaper for me I have watched people jump in their car, drive 500 yards to the shop and back again This is what I mean about waste
  11. They are nothing new, I used to make them in metalwork at school 33 years ago. Mine were slightly bigger and would penetrate straight through both doors of a car. It was interesting when the teacher unwittingly asked me what I was making, "Model canon sir" I would say. A few years ago I made one that fired squash balls as an anti theft device but ended up scrapping the idea because it was too dangerous. Even a squash ball would have seriously injured someone
  12. I think what peeves me is dependency on cars for needless things, for example taking Felicity to singing lessons when Felicity clearly cant sing and never will. If the price of fuel went up, less cars would be on the road needlessly, lorries would be able to get from a-b quicker and more efficiently therefore saving fuel and being able to absorb a higher fuel price. Either that or we could have a cull, exterminate say....50% of the uk population, then limit families to only two children, anymore than two get aborted. Then stop any form of immigration but encourage emmigration. I reckon that should sort out the deficit quick stick and sort out a lot of other problems too
  13. Dont I know it Mine had gone on the one I have just sold, the part to do it was under a £100 and the labour made up the rest. Needless to say it went without aircon.
  14. When much can be transported by rail All in all people will find more efficient ways, such as return loads instead of travelling back empty. People use fuel needlessly, their savings on their monthly fuel bills by cutting out needless journeys, will more than pay for the extra cost of their grocery shopping.
  15. I would disagree, I would expect to see a little scoring all round the cylinder, not just in a localised spot at the exhaust port. I would suspect more like some crap getting in when changing the plug
  16. Not at all Mark I'm not whinging about fuel costs and am quite happy paying for what I use, even at £2 a litre. I'll buy another Toyota Amazon, I'll just manage the mileage I do efficiently.
  17. I've done a few splices on it Rob and each time my hands are really sore afterwards. Its the last bit, the "crossover" I struggle with
  18. I thought you might, thats why I made a special effort for you Stevie
  19. The damage looks a bit localised to be lack of lube damage ? Has it happened to you before? I have one and not had any problems, do you leave it ticking over for extended periods ?
  20. Decided to see how Yale do their splices so dissected an old rope eye splice. The actual outer sheath bury is only approx 6" long. I would have expected a lot deeper bury I cut farther back to find the crossover and there wasn't one as you would expect. The inner core is plaited very neatly as shown in the pics. Three core sections are twisted together which must then incorporate the the main inner core farther up. Interesting to see what you entrust your life to. The outer sheath fell off as I was dissecting, so the outer core you can see is the eye and the bury You can tell I was bored today eh ?
  21. I'm the opposite Mark, I think it is a level playing field, you pay for what you use. I also think road tax should be abolished and put onto fuel, that way those that do the road miles pay for them. Why should I pay £400 tax on a 4x4 when I do sub 3K miles a year when a rep in a small car does a gazillion miles a year in a zero tax car burning up 10 times more fuel than me. Those who live in rural areas choose to do so. If they dont they get a bonus by not having to sit in traffic queues or put up with idiots. They also have the choice of buying a fuel efficient car. I want a big 4x4 because I need one, I will pay for the milage I do in fuel no problem, but I dont agree with paying tax on one even if it does 1 mile per year, that is not fair. Those that use fuel should pay for it, that way they will use it more efficeintly. When I price jobs I get a load together and plan a route round them all which is the most efficient in time and fuel, if a job is out of "my area" I try and pass it on to another tree surgeon more local
