  1. As seen on the cedar thread I am getting a load of the Woodchuck log moving tools around 20th May. A customer pointed me in the direction of these and I got one of each around 2 months ago. They are the best made and looking log movers I've seen - made from solid strong aluminum and well designed for a good price. The logs in the pics are the biggest I could pull over by myself but I am only 10 stone so the bigger fellows out there could prob tackle larger logs! There are x3 types: The Woodchuck Dual - this one I see as being the all purpose tree surgeon 'stick it in the back of the truck' tool - has a peavy point for levering things but you can attach the optional foot for holding the end of logs into the air. Has a double hook - better for gripping particularly smaller logs up to 12"... Offer price of £65-00+vat (after arbtalk disc) but only if you order now - they are due 20th May. Pics below - Mendiplogs has ordered one and he doesn't spend his hard earned money unless he has a very good reason too Products for the category: Forestry equipment
  2. Extra foot is separate for the Dual while the log lifter has x2 feet already. I now have them listed here Products for the category: Forestry equipment
  3. I know Stevie - but the job I'm doing demands one so.... That said we all do risk assessments all the time all day every day - the difference is these are not written down.
  4. Ha ha! I think what he's saying is that this thread is pure wind up material.
  5. Cheers - I will have a look at that (and actually another member has just sent me a copy of the one he uses... ta Ginger!) I will look through it but most of it will stay the same but I just want to have a proper format to it. I can then give the impression that I am a professional ha ha!
  6. Looks really good to me - smart job. Makes me want to do one of my saws...
  7. Does anyone have a link to a generic type risk assessment for using a chainsaw on site that I can download and modify? Thanks in advance.
  8. Actually they will be £88.15+vat (minus 10% arbtalk disc) when they come in not £85-00
  9. Alright James - not in stock yet should be here 22nd - but if you order now you can have for £65-00 (+£10 if you want the foot that goes on instead of the point). +vat... Retail will be £85-00+vat (ok - 10% arbtalk disc) so you can order now and get this deal here Products for the category: Forestry equipment So after arbtalk 10% it will be £65-00 They are very good and you will not break it - mediplogs has just ordered one You get 12 foot of track with the mini mill - you can order more track here Products for the category: Granberg Handle and rail sets
  10. Just seen this thread - looks really good I may have a go at making a couple in fact. Keep updating.
  11. Yesterday was a tough one - got the top first cut sectioned and off, got the sides off to give a more 'blocky look' so that the Peterson will fit round it.... Cut the middle out in x3 discs as you need a space to flip the mill (I only have 6m of track at the moment). I'll keep x2 of the discs, skim them flat and put in plywood for tables. Then started milling which was awkward at max height - no pics of the Peterson working as we were getting pushed for time then. It's a nice log in that no real shake, so should yield some good planks...
  12. I've not timed it Alec - I'll try to next time But didn't seem to bad x2 40" wide planks 12 foot long with 20% fuel left in the tank.
  13. Yes prob would be better but there is only me and Toby there! It works fine with 1 person - I'm going to try a remote control winch and see how that works as there is only 30% effort with someone else pulling compared to normal. We are clearing sawdust as we go!
  14. Ha ha - I'm an idiot Jon is what I am...! More pics to come but it was hard graft again today - trying to get the rings out the middle to make ebough room to swing the mill almost killed us! But starting to generate some timber now so all good!
  15. Strangely I thought it might but it doesn't. Pulls it along nice and straight. The only slightly annoying thing is the bar bends down a tad in the cut... only about 1/4" but not sure there is any getting away with that on long bars... didn't notice it so much on my 50" though...
  16. Have been doing this cedar for a couple of days - not full days I think 5 hours each. Log rolling with the new Woodchuck log lifters and rollers. I am the new importer for these as they are very well made and very well designed. The Woodchuck - The TimberJack - The Dual Good progress although one of the smaller logs was just firewood. Some big planks off the end section - that's a 59" bar and 56" mill almost maxed so a good 48" widest point. Have found getting someone to pull the mill up the log with a short rope reduces the energy by 60 to 70%... makes things very easy. Have managed to take the first slab off the top of the main section... back tom and hopefully will be able to fit the Peterson around it.

    bone oak

Very funky chair - like it
  18. I may be up for coming in on this Alec. No I don't think Oregon do any sort of sprocket for the 090 now... Is it oregon rims that fit on this? If so I'll take a couple of these. Send me a PM if you go ahead with it.
  19. Will be 3.5 months I'm afraid
  20. Thanks Jon - not sure I'm looking forward to milling it but I'll be up there tom morning!
  21. That'll be excellent to rip down some of your Alaskan milled timber Ben.
  22. Will be putting the next order in mid May. This will be mainly for light type bars. I will get a 16" I think for Stihl mount in toonie tip. Then multi mount in 8" dime, 8" quarter, 12" quarter.
  23. Just bumping the thread for you Bob - I don't know anyone up there but plenty of mills go into Scotland so there should be someone there abouts...!
  24. Oh - and welcome to the forum BTW!
