  1. off the rails. on heath / forest clearance When they are local we do the trees gareth cant crunch with the shears
  2. They have got to be worth a look as they are 10 minutes in the car from me. I know the yard .
  3. Old fatty tried that plan on a FC thinning of tall larch, he had a wigwam of 3 cut and hung up trees all in a bunch, the district harvesting manager appeared on site in time to see fatty felling the tree that supported the 3 others, two where not marked for thinning and fatty also had no PPE trousers on that morning. The trees hit the dack and fatty was sent home for the day!
  4. I bet those evangelical non-toppers would jump at the chance to re pollard a centuries old tree in a ancient location, making scraggy coronets, and all the while sounding the horn of liberalecoconservationism . Get off this subject quick, as those at the TreeHouse will remember the problems with the outspoken aussie.
  5. glad to hear it
  6. google it ! http://www.ce-marking.org/how-obtain.html
  7. Ask Douggie at Tavistock Chainsaws about non CE marked saws, I understand he had a container load of "cheap" saws ( husqvarna) from Romania and couldnt sell them cos they had no CE markings or rating at the time. As far as LOLER is concerned if its got no CE or EN marks then I will not pass it fit for use unless there is supporting test/inspection paperwork from the manufacturer or importer. The CE mark can be given to individual items or batches sent for independent inspection and approval. ( a customer of mine imports pond stuff from the US and has been down this route)
  8. This makes my ears bleed and head hurt. [ame= ] [/ame] They are sure busy rodents.
  9. That was what my mate was telling me about last week, he wants to show it to his students where he teaches.
  10. I have felled on front of PB's big chipper you forgot to say that when you are 20metres away you cant hear your own saw running at full revs because its so loud.
  11. Does this statement mean anything? "The law says that waste is any substance or object that has been discarded, is required to be discarded or is intended to be discarded. The word ‘discarded’ has a broad meaning and includes those things that are going to be recycled or recovered. In fact you can only recycle something that is waste. If you are handling materials that have been or are to be discarded you should assume you are dealing with waste. There are some exceptions to this but even if you are doing something useful with it or it is valuable, you can still be handling waste." right there in section 1 that seems clear. http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/subjects/waste/1416460/1334460/?lang=_e Even if you only move recyclable materials you need exemption certificates to store and process the material. Regarding transportation. When you remove a tree or a branch from a customers garden you are disposing of their waste and must have a carriers license, if they took their own waste to the tip they do not need to have a license. http://www.netregs.gov.uk/netregs/275207/276315/1615426/?lang=_e I would find it hard to believe that thoes with council contracts do not have a license to carry waste. We need a poll on this steve. Who has and who has not got a waste carriage license.
  12. I've carried dung and furniture, ballclay for a pottery, old wood , soil and crushed concrete, numerous salvaged sheds, garden pots and patio heaters, etc... Its amazing what folk ask you to transport for a few quid when you have a tipper. LA's are hot on people going to the tip/household recycling centres round here so we often dispose of waste , at a price. I help the ground workers, plant nurseries , landscapers and fencers and they feed me treework. Money is money and be fkd if I want to travel 10 or 20 miles to just do trees when I can do a variety of jobs and go home for lunch most days. We also have a main road with VOSA check point 4 miles away, so for me its better to be safe than sorry.
  13. I have a customer with several topped pines the customer told me the work was done over 15 years ago by the world renound arboroculturalist Jerem*y Barr*ll when he was still cutting trees so it must be ok cos they are not rotting out , the laterals have thrived and we prune them every few years.
  14. No , but I do carry things other than chips and logs, if you carry any other waste than chip or log then you are breaking the law. What about the odd bit of fence pannel, some brick rubble , a load of roots off a site etc... Who ya gonna call Fly-tippers.
  15. Could be.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Loglift-hiab-type-grab-crane-Timber-Forestry-logging_W0QQitemZ160210942205QQihZ006QQcategoryZ108854QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  16. I usually use the 372 with 20" but on fridays its 15" day. supreme cutting.
  17. What about the diference between logs, chips and hedge trimmings. Who wants to keep hedge cuttings in case they become useful?
  18. Nice wheels mate.
  19. I hope that MEWP is NOT reaching OVER the wires.
  20. London is a trifle stifling in the heat. Make your way to the coast and be fanned by sea breezes in the height of summer.
  21. Or Beer.
  22. How many of those who aspire to be professionals have NPTC, PPE , LOLER, Firstaid at work, Mot and road rent , Public Liability and Employers Insurance, Tax and National Insurance, PAYE , CIS etc... ...and haul waste without a licence then pile their arisings in fields and yards without planning permission or exemption certificates? Being professional is about all the job not the bits you want to pick and choose.
  23. Saturn Machine's bolts have a hex head, they even sent me the correct allen key with the order.
  24. The cackers round ere are so rancid no dog wants to bite them
