  1. I have chopped up a street tree with a silky before. I didn't have a chainsaw in the truck but it was only a Rowan so the Sugoi it was. It was quite funny, about 7 or 8 kids redirecting traffic whilst on their way he from school... Haha. The tree was about 15 metres from Fr Jones' old shop.
  2. I was going to write similar Rupe. You put it a lot more eloquently than me though. Do you just pretension the GRCS to take any excess stretch out or do you keep cranking as it goes over?
  3. Haakon loves the woods. Loads Places to run and scramble about. He had a few woodland tasks from school. So whenever they do woodland stuff at school we pop up the woods and he educates me... Haha. As for the sssi status, I am not sure. It is in Greenwich borough so there might be something on their website.
  4. David, the site is Oxleas woodland. The skateboard was already there. It's about 4 miles from my house.
  5. A couple of shots from last weekend.
  6. Cheers Tony. It was about 12 inches across. I have started looking a bit more up the woods as me and Haakon forage. I seem to notice them more on damp days, not sure why though? Couldn't miss that one though! Beautiful colour. Listen to me, I sound like a right bloody hippie!
  7. Try to go Thaiboxing when I have the time and energy. As much snowboarding in the winter as I can get in. Both seem to be getting less and less though as a 5 year and 1 year old boys take up most of the rest of my spare time.
  8. I went for a walk in Oxleas woods, nr Shooters Hill last weekend. Spotted this on a fallen trunk. Did think of picking it as I have never cooked with it before but it was on a popular dog walkers route. It was also at a convenient height for most breeds so thought best to leave it...
  9. I agree on the loading issues by had to disagree on the driveway comments. I have worked for quite a number of companies running o license vehicles. I reckon I can count on one hand the number of times we couldn't get them onto the driveways. You would not have bee able to get a transit sized vehicle on there either. One guy even had the 7.5t'er body narrowed to fit 7' width restrictions. Was a great drive aswell around London.
  10. I think I might order a wee metre aswell. Hadders, I went to bandqit but got confused. Man, they sell loads of different wire in there. Which is the one you got?
  11. The Art and science is a great book but I feel the best book published for practical tree work and IMO is a must for any working climber or groundsman is Gerry Beranek's - The fundamentals of General Treework. A great practical guide to most aspects of Treework. Also Gerry has produced the Working Climber Series of Dvd's. Again a valuable resource for any climber/groundsman.
  12. I just put a throwball on the end of my climb line with a tiny accessory crab. takes less time than coiling a bag and throwing. I am usually more accurate with the throwball too.
  13. Just go to the advanced option when replying to thread. Click on the manage attachment button. Choose file from your hard drive, Job done! At least it is on my Mac's.
  14. Exactly, and if the poster is worried about heat build up on their rope, how do they get down from a tree. Friction hitch cord gets pretty hot as does the line itself when you tonk it outta a tree.
  15. Just sharpen the chain better mate. Should be ok.
  16. Try Richard Maxwell. Which night do you need it done by? I wouldn't expect anyone to do it for you by Tuesday if that's what your after.
  17. Plus they can't lift a lot... That what your getting at? Haha
  18. The only reason the tower was used was for reach. No other crane could do it and the road outside was too narrow for a conventional crane and the other side of the trees was network rail land. Plus they are very expensive. Especially that size. I think the red one was the largest in Europe at the time.
  19. Here you go Nick... the job was about 4 years ago, I think. The yellow one was a 50m mobile tower crane and the red one a bit bigger at 60M. My mate Chris doing the cutting from a mewp and 4 of us on the floor to clear up.
  20. Here is one from last year. Wood was collected for milling.
  21. I'll hunt em out and post them Tomorrow if I remember
  22. Nice pics Liam. Nice cutting by Mike. Nick, I did post some pics of tree work with a tower crane a few years ago. What was the max lift at the end Mike, Mozzarella?
  23. You lost me there Rupe.
  24. well said that man. 850 for 3 days work is far too cheap. The the other company do it for less. Walk away with a smile on your face.
  25. On a serious note, one of the guys I graft for brought in 6 helmet pads last week. You soak the pad in water and a chemical reaction with some chrystals make it go real cold. You then fasten the pad to the inside of your lid whilst working. The guys who used it thought they worked very well.
