  1. Stevie will be on his posh phone
  2. I agree Monkey. I also don't believe the yanks only cut the bark, IMO the second tree was in poor health, so it was not able to callous the carving. The huge beech is a cracker!!!
  3. We need to fell it now and count the rings to see if your right
  4. Your letter is some what contradictory. You are arguing that there are untrained people driving large vehicles, but then say you think the entitlement should have remained
  5. I did not ask what the other guys price was.
  6. Yeah around 350 was what I understood the maximum to be, I was wondering if Tony thought this was older than that???
  7. How old do you think it is Tony????? My understanding was that Beech are not that long lived.
  8. One thing this situation does make me think, is that its may be a good idea to follow up quotes with a call to see what the customer has decided. You never know they may have lost your details and your call may be just what they needed, so they could ask you to do the job.
  9. WOW!!!! Thats a lot of timber!!!!!! I'm not sure there will be many on here have quoted a job of that size!!!!!!!!!! I know I haven't!!!!!!!!!
  10. You are mistaken, there is no legal requirement for training in the UK. There is a duty of care over employees that means they need to have recognised training, but a huge number of firms are one man bands, meaning the boss is the climber, so the duty of care is much less clear.
  11. Many thanks too Steve, hope I can be of help keeping the good ship Arbtalk on an even keel as we sail on into the future. And many thanks to all those who have offered kind words of encouragement
  12. I think you may be describing yourself there and not the average UK arb, most of us climb the tree (unlike your self, who seems to prefer your bucket truck or pole pruner or both) so we tend to be very close to the work and able to get a good position to make a good cut.
  13. No I think its the customer who is disorganised, must have lost the other guys number or forgotten who it was.
  14. Got a call yesterday Customer "did you give a quote for felling a Lime??" Me "not sure, how long ago??" Customer "last couple of days" Me "no, but I would be happy to come look and quote" Customer "OK" Won the job, was I wrong to do this????????
  15. Yes I was 11.5 stone and am now 13.5 stone. Now you know why I NEED to climb!!!!!
  16. I'm sat in bed, watching the Andrew marr show and browsing on here, I've just had my 4 children come in bearing gifts and cards!!! I have a chocolate Mini, a chocolate beer mug, a huge Toblerone with "DAD of the YEAR" printed on the side, some cappuccino truffles and a nice bottle of white!!!! I even got a hug from my 6ft 15 year old!!!! A truly great start to the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Defiantly not!!!!!!! that stuff may fill a hole when needed, but I'm not sure it is actually food.
  18. I thought the same as you regarding the bollard and winch both on at the same time and the ability (with practice) to move smoothly from one to the other. But those with far more experience than me with these things, seemed to think the back plate was too small and it was generally a little too light weight. As with all these things, time will tell, if its good it will sell!!!
  19. What features of this one make you say that Tony??
  20. We are off out to one of my favorite restaurants this afternoon.
  21. The dutch guy is suggesting the chain is causing the problem with the new saw, but if the chain is fine on the old saws its not the chain thats the problem.
  22. skyhuck

    £800

Thats a very bad idea , IMO. If you have employees using it and things go wrong you could find your self in prison. You only need to look at all the old guys at the APF with fingers missing to realise they are two hand operation for a reason!!
