  1. Who decided to offer free quotes?? Who decided to drive 40 miles?? The customer has done nothing but give you the chance to quote the work, I would never hold that against a customer and he even had the decency to call and let you know. We have to kiss a few frogs, when looking for those princely jobs
  2. This situation is in no way similar to the one posted by the OP, this customers is bang out of order
  3. Good timber and great fire wood!!! Forget about the decease, unfortunately that genie was let out the bottle many years ago and I don't think there is any thing that can now be done to reduce its spread now. Timber is not affected by DED.
  4. No we're beautiful and we don't want you ugly sods gorping at us
  5. The DED beetle will be there already and IMO there is very little you can do, your Elms will reach a certain size and then succumb to the decease (there may be the odd exception if your lucky) Coppicing any that have not been affected yet may work.
  6. If you don't like the thread why post Stevie must be one of the most positive poster on AT, he always helps where he can, go look at his profile page, I would wager he has more friends than any other member and you wonder why he gets a lot of support ??? Get a life
  7. Nasty that Stevie, I think if they tape those two fingers together, you'll be back to work real soon!!!! Heal fast mate!!!
  8. Sorry mate but he's pretty much nailed it there
  9. You need to read my post again, I said its not possible for the rope to fail under your weight, I've used old climbing ropes to pull trucks out of fields. We are taking here about lack of confidence in the gear, so IMO my point is valid. Human error is to blame for virtually every accident within our industry, irrational fear will in no way help prevent that error. As for you "just accepting the risk" remind me never to work with you, thats not how I work, its perfectly possible to select anchor point and make other choices that mean you will not fall. I have a wife an four children to support and do not have the luxury of "just accepting the risk". My son joins me this year in the business and there is no chance I'm going to allow him to "just accept the risk"!!!
  10. Personally I think this is really bad advice, this fear is nonsense, if you give in to it you will never move forward. You need to educate yourself to the facts that you are safe, your rope cannot let you fall, its not possible. Being in a rope and harness is not dangerous, its scary yes but thats all in your head. Be proud, don't give in to the fear, keep telling yourself that its just your mind trying to fool you that your in danger, because your not. You need to be master of your mind, not the other way round, don't be a slave to your fears. Before long you'll be loving it, the higher the better:thumbup1:
  11. You've led a very sheltered life then, IMHO.
  12. A bus tour would be my idea of hell, hire a car and plan your own days!!
  13. No one got "beat up":001_rolleyes:
  14. Can you throw away the tweezers?????
  15. Yes, exactly that, just think about how strong the gear is and the fact that you can't possibly fall. Talk yourself through the fact that the fear has no real basis in reality.
  16. IME, most fear is irrational and can be thought through. You need to just stop and think it through. What can happen??, your gear will take something like 3 tonnes before it even begins to fail, so the loads your putting on it with your weight are nothing. Any fear you feel is totally irrational and just need getting your head round, IMO. Its like spiders, the fear of them in our country is nonsense, they are the ones who should be afraid of us.
