  1. You can even use waste wood, so there must be a way.
  2. How can you have a woodland plan for tree surgery arisings??
  3. How is chip from tree work not sustainable???
  4. I think steve was thinking of you selling his kindling
  5. When cutting and holding (not that I would ever be an advocate for such appalling and illegal activity) start the cut with your free hand well away, only once the saw has bitten into the timber and cannot skid do you hold with your free hand.
  6. That is totally different to the situation we have been discussing!, you would be causing a "nuisance" and could be prosecuted, so a charge would expected.
  7. Yeah but thats the Lakes, which is Southern North really, all incomers and larger.
  8. How ridiculous, I don't believe thats accurate. What possible grounds would the FS have to enforce a cost on you?? you have committed no offence. Please post a link to an example of the FS charging some one for their coming out unnecessarily. As for being "Professional and polite"???? what next?? should I call the police before I clear my gutters, just incase some one thinks I'm a burglar with a ladder and rings the plod?????
  9. I don't think we even have "parish magazines" round here, must be southern thing. Over the 20+ years I've been trading I've tried most forms of advertising and only use the ones that work, I spend about 2.5% of turnover on advertising, 1% is with yell and YP, they work for me
  10. Thats all very different to someone expecting 10% of the job price.
  11. Not at all its been a good day Genuinely, I spend about £1K with Yell and Yellow Pages, If I thought for one second that would only bring me £10K of work I'd cancel tomorrow!!
  12. :congrats: Good for you!!!! Take no notice of those who try to trample on your dreams!! Your not claiming benefits, milking the system like many do, your not becoming a fat slob who needs a gastric band fitting, your keeping alive many skills that will be lost if a £ value needs to be nailed to them. Long may your sort keep on swimming against the tide!!! Don't be pulled down by the bureaucratic loving, stick in the muds!!!!!!!!!
  13. I would not expect you to pass me work, also you would not be passing me work, your passing me a lead its still down to me to win the work. I'm more than happy to pass on the numbers of good trades men and expect nothing in return.
  14. Really??? you must love Yellow pages and their like, as they cost rather lest than that. Do you really spend 10% of turnover on advertising???????
  15. Did he want a monkey???? sounds like a poison chalice to me, hell of a commitment, they are noisy and smelly:thumbdown:
  16. Exactly the way I work I'm a specialist, I only do trees and hedges, so the guys who get me tree work get their number passed on for gardening, paving, fencing etc, works well IME.
  17. Really?????? To a "volunteer"??? How do charity shops get round that???
  18. If it knackered why waste the time, just cut it off and get the new one on would be my advice.
  19. Wow!!! this has to be the wackiest thing I've ever read on AT!!!!!! Can you imagine the press conference appealing for your missing child?????? "No I don't know the ladies name or address………………..or anything about her really………………………but she looked OK"
  20. Most investments can go either way. The thing with this is you spread your risk, you need only put £20 in any one loan, so your chances of losing are very much reduced. If you deposit into a savings account your pretty much guaranteed to loose, as it won't keep up with inflation.
  21. Ah, so you were looking to invest rather than borrow? As a borrower you get somewhere between 6% and 14% I believe, but there are no arrangement fees and its fixed.
  22. I am currently going through the process of borrowing through these guys, got to say they are brilliant. Once they have three years accounts they quickly decide if your approved or not. Once approved you are given a risk rating of A B or C, A being best, then your loan is listed and investors bid to lend to you, those prepared to take the lowest return take preference. You can chose to take the lone as soon as its filled at the rate its first filled at(mine took about 20minuets to fill) or you can let the auction run for up to 7 days, over this time more bids are placed and you interest rate can fall. Watching the rate fall is very addictive, the whole process has been so much better than dealing with a bank and I much prefer the idea of my interest going to individual investors rather than a bank.
