  1. Yeah bro, definitely the way for big access times. Does generate a bit of heat but I wasn't rushing the descent so not too much of an issue this time-but flying down 40m in one go would be a different story!
  2. one i made a while ago..
  3. 80m gum(tallest tree in nz apparently) today, rope wrench all the way. being able descend at any point on a big access is such a plus.
  4. thats a good point bro
  5. I agree bro but just wondered how it stands with everything having to be triple action thats all..
  6. Probably the same, ive used paytron access before which is the same as tree patron access I think.no doubt its a good strong rope.
  7. Yeah not fixed bro, you can still open it but both sides are closed and locked in when the carabiner is in? That make sense?
  8. Pretty sure you can bro. I find it's too bouncy as a sole access line but never climbed on it apart from access
  9. Yeah I hear ya bro but all gear in tree work has to be triple locking- the rig isn't, that's all. It's a great bit of kit but I think it shouldn't have the openable side, just have the two sides the same ya know?
  10. Can't the rig be opened quite easily though? That's my big reservation about it being used in tree work, despite what the petzl catalogue says. The side plate can be opened when doing a Branch roll say..
  11. you can still change ends witha spliced eye-just use the unspliced end.......
  12. yeah that bthe same as icetail, remove the rubber core and so a class11 hollow braid splice. ez pz.
  13. i like the vizir but finds it distorts vision quite a bit compared to sunglasses but its crap when chipping dusty stuff..
  14. Done Ian-its by Samson. quite like tenex but super hardwearing and heat resistant. weird in that it looks knackered after one use but thats just the dye wearing out and some fibres fluffing up.. (i cant upload pics from my iphone to arbtalk so goes on DBTree facebook page)
  15. Ian, have you tried icetail hitch cord? I had the same conclusion as you about the op and prefer the icetail for its ability to grab every time without tending.
  16. Hey bare roots, great vid bro-love the film making you've got there. YouTube flight of the frenchies- wickedly shot film.

    Gum Tree

a/tiny branch hits the top and it freefalls b/ rope can come out of it c/ too much rope in control mode and it just keeps going. BUT if i spent more time on it i might realise that all those reasons kind of fade away through changing how i climb. I also think that if rock exotica put a guard on the top to stop branches activating it and a gate on the bottom to stop the rope coming out of it these problems would disappear. BUT a lot of my friends run the uni and they absolutely fly and no ones had any failure yet. each to there own, i just like the feeling of hitches.

    Gum Tree

nah bro Treetools | life in trees i think. personally i think the rw and hitch is safer than the uni but thats just personal preference, ive got years climbing on a hitch and it just feels right.

  21. a good pic in the 2012 petzl catalouge too. SRT work positioning using a RIG but grigri works pretty much the same

  23. Yeah mark, johno and Zane started the inner tube thang with there unicenders, now all the srt climbers be it rw or uni are adorned with inner tubes. It's the great kiwi revolution!! And it's actually really comfortable to climb with on. And you shouldn't need to touch the hitch to dress it...
  24. but if the force is reduced then surely the load on the anchor point is also? As i see it (and may be wrong) the 200kg is always going to ramp up massively in load due to falling weight on the anchor, so if you can reduce that load by increasing rope in th system then you can reduce the load on the anchor from ramping up so masively. of course with the wrong angles you may in fact increase the load theoretically but the rope stretch then might negate that increase. or just cut smaller bits.......
