  1. i think it might be..
  2. nah its a bit of a pest tree really. Gravillia robusta i think is the proper name. lots of people can be allergic to the tree as well so its not the favourite of many people.
  3. a nice little grevillia we just removed in hospital grounds
  4. picture of the work unit and the new(ish) chipper we were using today.good tractor as well..
  5. Finaly a question for Steve, Buzz, Pete Mctree, Marc & Peter. Can you install the Rope Guide from the floor like you can a trad cam saver? appreciate your thoughts guys. i can install the rope guide from the ground but it leaves a length of throw line hanging from the guide once installed. cant install the new webbing one from the ground though. be keen to see it done though.... for all the hassle i thinks its quicker and easier to climb/footlock into the crown and install it then.
  6. treemeup-is that martin in that phoenix? think ive seen the pics of the removal
  7. ha! we all have those lucky days. sounds cool, if i make it back i will drop in and say hello.
  8. not sure on accurate dates. maybe flying back to uk as brother will be becoming a dad and i thought it would be good to do a few comps and catch up with people whilst im back.On a bit of a buzz for the comps at the moment as just won the auckland regional climbing comp!(shameless plug sorry). steve, what happens at capel? ive never been there.
  9. I recommend the treemotion but wait a while for the new improved hardware (on the lower d rings)to become available as this will increase the wear resistance on the webbing. bloody comfy harness imo.
  10. I might be home in the uk at the time of the comp and was wondering if i would be able to climb? none of my gear will be loler checked but its all pretty damn new-will i just have to show date of purchase? or could i just beg and borrow on the day? would i have to show my nptc card as ive got no idea where it is these days?
  11. Probably putting these pics in the wrong place but here goes anyway. useful to advance your hitch if you havent got a hitch climber but im sure its all been seen before.Just slide the little prussik away when ascending, coming in on long branch walks and slide back down when going out on branches, working in crown etc
  12. ive got the cocoon and apart from using it as a floating anchor on a footlock line it doesnt get much use. i did make it into a rope guide type anchor but it only just fits through the art ring and at times wouldnt retrieve. i have however heard good things about the cocoon from other climbers so i must be missing something. also found it pretty useless as a redirect but it is a nice looking piece of equipment

    Friction cord

  16. Thats the rules here, all natives over 5m are protected and all exotics over 8m are protected.
  17. when will someone put snowboard bindings on spikes? is there a reason why it cant be done? i
  18. over 4weeks and still no harness:thumbsdown:
  19. its the gallipoli remembrance pine outside the auckland museum planted by the war vets society so removal is not an option til the tree is totally dead.theyve planted a new one next to it so once thats established it wont look so bad. got some funny looks doing the work. not big tree atall just hi profile. Did you have any luck with the courses?
  20. Removed dead stem for safety with planned removal of whole in not so near future.ugly but to spec....
  21. Can someone post some pics of how to setup SRT on the treemotion? its bugging me on how to do it!!! some pics of other setups would be good as well.cheers.

    UK vs Nz

Waikato polytech (near hamilton,n.island)do arb courses which is apparently pretty good. Otago has now stopped doing the arb course or so iu heard. Work for treescape and they do a working qual in conjunction with waikato.Work for Asplundh and they do the NZHito course free of charge. the advantage of NZHito is that you can continue the training at any company-its all about networking with the relevant instructors.Speak to David Glenn as i think he runs it. Myerscough online is good but too expansive to do from here. pm me if you need any more info.

    UK vs Nz

Ive got the pics but they are all too big pixels to fit in the site. is it easy to resize them or as ive said before "am i just sh*t on computers?" I would recommend NZ to anyone i meet, its all about having lots of fun and fitting work in between. The range of companies is vast with some specialising in land clearance, chopper work, council contracts, etc. so pretty much the same as back home but with only 4million people-whats the uk population now? The industry is still small, with good contacts easily made, you can work your around the country and see all the sites. The s.island is heaps more beautiful than the n.island but is a bit barren for my liking.Anyone will find it easy to get an arb job in auckland. Remember though that the PPE here is crap so bring your own, and harness-gear costs a fortune here. Now im off to watch the Mighty England whip the blackcaps arse in twenty20 cricket
