  1. can you post a pic showing how much smaller the sentinel is? cheers:001_smile:
  2. i was asking our council arborist about trying it out in some of the reserves but realised that there is so much bush still here that its benefits were of little use. I reckon it should be put to good use in the uk as all the wildwoodland (which is where the dying, decaying trees are) is or has dissapeared. I think that it is a great new way of pruning when used in the correct setting and used as a tool to complement shigo's techniques.different tools for different jobs, etc... or am i missing the point?
  3. yeah i had the same problem with mine. try swapping the pads inside for the different thickness ones, it helped for me but every head is different.Still not as comfy as my elios mind.
  4. went on a treemagineers course with beddes last year and highly recommend it to everyone. wish i was able to go..............
  5. who was that through mate? bivouac or tim?
  6. yeah cant remember how much cord the ol'fishermans use up. remember to take the time in setting your 'motion up specifically for you and youll love it imo
  7. totally agree . nice work.
  8. how was ya day today mate? lovely blue sky and no wind up here in aucks.. got my vt/xt set at 80cms but thats spliced eyes, 8mm on blaze with hitchclimber.hope that helps.
  9. used the SRT system again today on a big pine, its such an easy way to ascend once you get a rhythm going and you arrive at the top ready to go. its a bit cumbersome with all the extra gear but worth it i reckon on big climbs.and its fun trying new stuff out.
  10. I dont think that could of happened on a single line as the croll (or similar) would still be operating (acting as a backup). i might be wrong though.
  11. ouch. and ouch again. is the climber ok?

    SRT Setup

not disagreeing but do cavers have backup when they use this system? i didnt think they did as its primarily a means of ascent only, but it would be good to get views on this.i thought the ascension backed up the croll?not sure though. To be honest if i had to tie in a backup hitch as well im not sure id bother with the system due to the amount of stuff needed to make it appropriately safe. id just footlock instead. does anyone else have pics of the SRT system they use? be good to see. and cheers for the comments:001_smile:

    double redi

there is no tail to it as youre using the end of climbing line as the redi. the only real danger is dropping a log onto the loop between you and the redi-but i reckon climbers using this sort of setup will/should be aware of that peoblem and work accordingly. or are you seeing a different problem than me?

    SRT Setup

just started playing with SRT ascent and unsure which of these two setups is better/correct or plain safe/unsafe. seems to work really well for ascent but im not sure if ill give up footlocking yet! I know i should probably have a shock absorber of some sort in the system but i havent got one so aint using one. tips for SRT would be much appreciated. cheers.
  17. some pics of a double pulley retrievable redi. got the idea from treebuzz and just played with and adapted it. ive used 2petzl pulleys together in photo as didnt have a double at the time. thats the only gear it uses (plus a krab). the first fishermans chokes the half loop so even though its not locked it wont come undone. you just pull the tail of your rope to retrieve the system. the fishermans also pulls undone if caught in a tight crotch. i await the onslaught:001_smile:
  18. made mine from welding wire but piano wire supposed to be good i heard. found it easier than with tubular fids.
  19. zubat 270. dont like the end of the blade on the bigger ones.
  20. would of done that steve but didint have spare hitch on me-it was that idea that led me clipping saw lanyard direct to hitch climber. cheers anyway
  21. vduben, pm me and i should be able to sort someting out for you. ie what companies do what and how to get your visa. if you get the job before you get the visa itll make the whole process a ton easier. if you fancy queenstown i know of heaps available and auckland.................
  22. I think my mate scott won the masters. anyone know if he did?
  23. can also tie the stopper knot from the hitch cord betwen the legs of the pulley to make it neater on the carabiner.
  24. ive just got too used to my treemotion really. ive got it setup just how i like it and have started to really like using the lower d rings. the petzl is good its just not for me unfortunately. i like the vented back and openable rings and if my treemotion hadnt just come back with new lower d's id probably keep it. also cant justify the cost of another new harness. its on trademe.co.nz.
  25. is it ok to hang chainsaw (066)from the bottom hole of hitch climber? its what i was doing the other day whilst removing some pines so to take the weight of my harness while i was waiting for ground to be cleared. worked reallyy well just wanted to make sure it was ok
