    UK vs Nz

Been living n auckland for the last 4 years and now wouldnt really consider moving back home to the uk.Reading all the threads about vosa, weight restrictions,,etc.. has really put me off doing the job back home. The kit here is nt quite up to the standard available in the uk but the chippers are bigger! Reg, even though arborist isnt on the occu short list it is still very highly regarded and having an arb qual will give lots of residency points. Adam, wre you at the nats and the conference in november? i might off seen you there. The kiwis dont go on about the all blacks so much any more(thank god) and tonight england will beat them in the cricket 20/20.
  5. I will be more careful next time!!!
  6. Ive never done fracture pruning and never seen it done before, until now, imo its a practice that when done in the correct setting for the correct reason is a technique that def has its uses. I agree that using a mewp would theoretically be easier but im sure that was taken into consideration. just because it hasnt got shigo cuts doesnt make it wrong.
  7. Has anyone tried a powerball to increase hand strength? Its a ball inside a ball that works on gyroscopic effect, it weighs about 200g but when its spinning it creates a weight of up to 18kg. real good for increasing hand/lower arm strength, most rock climbing shops sell them. or amazon.
  8. Icebreaker merino is top quality stuff to wear in the cold-or the hot. Merino really is the way forward.
  9. Try this one out and see if it works for you.
  10. All pics courtesy of beddes tree climbing course. hope he doesnt mind the photos being shared.
  11. Foot lock up to the rescued climbers klemheist and insert fig8 onto double rope. insert your lanyard through fig8 and attach to rescued climber and other end to yourself(if climbers are not comparable weights then a clove hitch in fig8 will be needed. attach small klemheist above fig8and attach to yourself(this is your backup.)cut rescued climbers footlock strop(they are now attached with you to fig8).and descend on fig8 with both people tied together.-after looking at photos below it seems i described it a bit wrong! Ive got pics doing exactly this scenario but unsure how to resize from 12megapixel.ideas?
  12. bowline tied with half hitch in the knot.dont know the name though............
  13. Noticed the webbing was getting worn on my motion and now it has to go back to manufacturers for repair/replacement. Its nice that they are fixing it straight away but itll mean a couple of weeks back in the old harness.
  14. Just been using Dyna-Glide. much nicer to throw than zingit and doesnt tangle at all. but zingit is still good.
  15. no probs!!!!!!!!!
  16. Putting this bit of webbing on and then clipping it too the collar of your t-shirt keeps everything out of the way when your footlocking. We normally set our climbing hitch up as normal on the ground and then the groundie just pulls the rope to advance the hitch up to the climber once hes lanyarded in up in the crown.
  17. Totally agree vduben, mkII golfs kicked arse. had a 16v a couple of years ago, 200 000miles on the clock and ran beautifully.and quick.

    all of the above.....
  19. Does anyone contract in to set up lights etc on the trees? ive just been asked to set up lights and lasers in the trees for a festival down here in nz. Could be a free ticket for the first person to ask but then again surely someone already has the contract.
  20. the two setups that i use. less friction=more energy
  21. In Auckland City any tree work that removes branches over 200mm circ needs written consent from council arborist. Consent is needed to remove native trees over either 3or 5m (cant remember which one) and exotic trees need consent if over 8m. It is up to tree owner to know the species and if it is native or not. Its more paperwork for the council but it does make the city look good. In some cases the council will demand a bond be paid on the council tree if major work (ie building) is to be done within the dripline and this is then repaid if no damage is done. If the tree is council then a supervising arborist is normally on site whilst work is carried out. I bet the builders hate it.........

    Cocoon

I got given a new ART cocoon from santa for xmas and apart from making my own ropeguide with it and using it to climb from a floating anchor point, has any one got any ideas on its uses? apart from it just being a well made good looking pulley? ART describe it as a redirect pulleybut i cant really see how it works in this application. If so, its an expensive redi pulley.....
  24. yep, sign us up for that one as well thanks
  25. its all personal preference but it def looks a bit too long for me. but whatever works man.....
