  1. thought this thread was about the above question, not who had the biggest (or smallest equipment) get a grip fellas! and chill out
  2. for the difference in price i can deal with having to fix it myself! paid about £160 for mine from a stihl dealer in canada when i was on holiday (apparently europeans quite often by stuff there and bring it home with them!) and bought it with a sh55 blower vac, got the two for £280 and didnt go over my baggage allowance! makes a joke of the european prices really
  3. hmmm not so sure about the demand for clogs round here!
  4. rattled our house in staffs well enough we thought one of the big beech trees next house had falled and hit the house! rattled all the cupboards in the bedroom
  5. "hydrulic power packs" arent they? i have looked at several enerpack ones on ebay with honda engines for running a log splitter, its just they seem more expensive than an axe and i dont sell many logs yet
  6. thats got to be great, sitting in the woods having a brew with the smell of the charcoal kilns smoldering away, birds singing.......... i know its hard work, but its relaxing! i love being in the woods at this time of year, especially on nice summy days
  7. what size timbers? have a relative down there with a tractor grab + trailer combo that might be able to help oh and how long for?
  8. got a mates stag do there in a months time best not tell the trouble and strife that bit
  9. very nice, is the charcoal worth more than the seasoned timber would be as logs? i keep wondering if i could get a neiche market up here for conservation charcoal selling it through local visitor centers and camp sites, it would bring some of the old coppice woods back into rotation, and also lots of the bankside alders which need managing, which i seem to remember reading makes reasonable charcoal,
  10. i know, im just joking its quite frightening how much info is available of the internet if you start to look for it, and aerial maps like flash earth and google mean people can see where storage areas are even if they are hidden deep in the woods,
  11. just need to weld an RSJ to the front, whats the problem, it will look like a landy then
  12. looks like you got a stalker!
  13. still after a flail, think i can get extra work with it cutting heather fire breaks etc and also work in some new blocks of woodland that have been planted locally, not sure i would want to use it on lawns
  14. stamford has a vodka bar thats all i can remember of the night out, nice pics by the way, looks like someone has a pretty good zoom on their camera!
  15. neighbouring farmers Navara went in 2days ago so they must have known this was coming? its just the passenger airbag thats the issue isnt it?
  16. hedge laying round here is funded mostly through stewardship (CSS), which is now gone but natural england is about to make it a load easier to get into HLS so hopefully the work will start to pick up again, also there is quite a bit of relict coppice round here that i plan to try to get back into production (some of still has some very good stools left) but funding is very up and down (think it will get worse the closer we get to the olympics as well!)
  17. i agree with the first paragraph about the coppice, and also with no knowing where the funding is coming from but its more like one month to the next but its interesting that we differ in how we see the future, LA's will cut funding internally and with their funding for projects yes but there is getting more project based funding available if you know where to look for it, i am currently trying to advise three land owners where to direct efforts for specific projects and their is a good chance they will get it
  18. bucket on the front as well! havent you got all the toys
  19. count me in, cheers
  20. the trouble and strife can do bat surveys and has advised on arb work before as part of her job, so if anyone wants any advice just drop me a pm and i will get her to answer it! had half a forest of paper come through the post today from the bat conservation trust, which as an organisation is trying to engage with the people effected by the legislation, which is more than can be said for many of the organisations representing protected species!
  21. there are whole dale sides up here where the sycamores have been felled for conservation and left! (and a load more about to be done) there will be more work coming in with conservation forestry in the future, sustainable woodland management etc, but i suspect this will be such low intensity that work from it will be uncommon, and most of this will be carried out by people from the conservation organisations as they all have staff (and dare i say it volunteers) who can do this work! Edit: The only money to be made with coppice imho is if you own the coppice and work it yourself (your not going to get rich as a coppice worker)
  22. i have one that we use quite a bit when hedge laying taller relict hedges, where the thorns have all intertwined, its also useful for going round field boundaries and removing lower branches that are likely to cause damage to machinery, definatly dont try and over reach else the branches have a habit of chasing back down the pole towards the operator!
  23. not wanting to but in, my 192t is great! bought mine on holiday in canada for about £160 with a shed load of extras, caps, hard carry box, 2bars and chains! (didnt have to pay tax on it either) its really really light, and dont really find it that lacking in power, but my 020t that im comparing it to is quite old, its great for pruning fruit trees and dead wooding, but this is just my opinion, and i dont have much climbing experience.
  24. i think with saws if there was an issue you could actually just order the uk decals for it! (i know huskys ipls gnerally list the part nos for the stickers) then they wouldnt know if it was uk/us saw without going back to the manufacturers with serial numbers
  25. i think a dealer selling non-ce kit is different to people using them, i know dealers are liable for the equipment they sell, therefor selling non-ce saws could land them in big touble, especially if the user had an accident with it, i suspect its up to HSE if ok to use non-ce equipment for work (and i can imagine what the answer will be) youve only got to look at the amount of ms192t saws turning up on ebay (and stihl dont sell them in europe!) i cant think its homeowners who are selling these,
