  1. yep i will probably attend as long as it doesnt clash with anything else as the week before im flat out (cereals, weddings etc), and i guess we will be on with hay making by then, hopefully it will be worth it for an update on where grant funding is at. The conservation management advise section that rspb write in biritsh wildlife is very good and its being run by the same people, So it should be a good day.
  2. whoops The contact is: Sue Lawson, conservation management advice co-ordinator on 01767 693308 or [email protected]
  3. 4 Dates around the UK 20th May East Sussex 27th May Surrey/Hampshire 10th June Highnam, Gloustershire 17th June, Derbyshire The cost is £75+vat
  4. spot on cheers guys! will give them a bell on Monday
  5. Does anybody know where its possible to purchase small quantities of prilled lime, eg calciprill, calcifert, mulkical etc etc I need enough for about 1ha in a woodland so i dont really want to be buying bulk 500kg bags if it can be helped, also its being put on by atv so 25kg bags would be preferable Cheers Charlie
  6. i got one about two months ago but one of my colleagues has it, should get it back as there was some cool kit in it!
  7. blimey this is an old thread! I got a FS460 about a month after this thread started (its the older version of the 550) and its a beast, paid £38 off ebay then about £60 to get the gears replaced in the head and its awesome, still has the dealers tickets and everything on it from when it was supplied new, so i dont think its done a lot just a bit fierce on the vibrations, but its ok as the tank full of fuel doesnt last a huge length of time anyway, and you need the padded harness to carry it about as it weights a lot especially in summer
  8. Just heard this on the local news as well, very very sad, stay safe everyone
  9. Mine is with NFU, but its dear at the moment as they have shifted them onto a car type policy, whereby you build up no claims so next year it should drop by about 20%. The excess is £500 if just locked up but drops if data tagged and drops further if an alarm or tracker is fitted,
  10. if its a commercial vehicle it was my understanding you should be sticking to 60 anyway on motorways?

    ARB Lunch

i just wash my jetboil out with water or carry a lightweight camping stove saucepan and have the soup in that, or wayfarer ration packs are very tasty
  12. I have the oregon version of that, which you mount on the bar, to be honest its a right pain and very slow but yes if its the same as the oregon then you can set it at 0 and 5 degrees

    ARB Lunch

nice warm tin of heinz big soup on the jet boil!
  14. you've made the concrete muddy, no more trainers in the yard again then?
  15. I burn it on my rayburn out of preference, it burns very hot and it seems to season very quickly if split soon after felling, been felling a few loads today ready for next autumn,
  16. if your on hilly ground then dont be fooled about it being fast, we used to run jd6910s and a couple of the fastracs of a similar power with 65kph boxes, one the flat the fastracs would leave the jds standing but on the hills with a loaded trailer on the back the john deeres would easily pass the fastracs, they are good when their going but can be a pig when they go wrong, some of the earlier ones had gearbox issues as mentioned, make sure you get a decent time to test drive one, make sure the gearbox works as it should and all the gears are present, check the pto all works ok, my uncle bought one about a year ago for hauling bales and they are now going back to either a fendt or massey, and this is after the fastrac engine has been fettled with, also find the engine specs, as the newer ones you can buy a lower hp engine and get them chipped easily, as the only difference on some of the mocels are the engine management, so you can get an extra 30hp for peanuts, the one my old man uses has had this done and he really rates it, think it cost about £450 to be done (i think it was the local JCB dealers actually did this)
  17. I have tried to contact them on several occasions and have never had the requested quote or as much as a return email suspect they dont ship outside canada,
  18. they are holding up very well, showing little signs of wear. They are ok on the road for slowish (sensible) use and have been fine in most conditions but in mud they just dont have the tread to get grip and they are to detailed a pattern to clear the mud quick enough, Im tempted to get a set of kenda executioners/bearclaws for very muddy work and keep the others for summer use nice trailer tires, my arch is on the standard 22x11x8's seems ok so far
  19. its just being careful when the trailer is loaded i sank mine up to the axles yesterday, i had to off load all the timber about 8lengths of alder so not even enough to cover the trailer floor, the winch (2300lb rated) wouldn't touch it with the timber on, and just got me out once empty, if your going to use your road trailer, fit the widest tyres you can get on it
  20. my 500cc honda will tow my 7ftx4ft trailer heaped chest high with timber from hedgelaying without to much bother on moderate terrain, once it gets very muddy or theirs no ground vegetation then its greatly reduced my trailer is about 150kg empty so yours must be built very heavy, its good with the skidding arch as well and im in the process of building a forwarding trailer with a removable swing lift crane on it, for shifting bigger bits without to much strain, there are a couple of threads on here about peoples use of quads for work and also there are a few vids on youtube of atv timber trailers to give you some idea of capacitys
  21. the one problem with all my hoodies is collecting saw dust in the front pocket, would prefer if they didnt have these on really,
  22. but normal for the conservation sector unfortunately, and the thing is they wont struggle to fill the role at that wage either, thing with conservation work and countryside work, is that their is always people willing to do it cheaply or as volunteers,
  23. just had a look, think cambs might only be an option if you have a private jet
  24. Stansted, Cambridge or Norwich are the closest
  25. hope your not using that topper by gloria for trimming the branches to fit in
