  1. the ford is ok to drive across, but that defender is driving up the stream bed, its home to several rare species, and efforts have been made to stop illegal off roading at this site, and the local landowners, rights of ways officers and police have been involved in trying to stop it, I know the site as i advise on the management of bank side trees and the river,
  2. glad you got it back, but if i catch you driving like that through bentley brook ford, at tissington, i will make sure its crushed! there are european protected species live in those banks that people seem to think its ok to drive up and down, If you care to give me the reg plate i will be sure to circulate it to all the other relevent authorities its not a flipping off road playground, EDIT: in fact you are committing a criminal offense in that photo,
  3. hi thanks for all the info, gives me a better idea, woodmad, thanks for the link, some great bits on that site, may be in touch with them about a couple of bits, the wife liked the look of the caravans! , I have a machine mart stove in my lounge, and i have to say I'm very impressed with it, puts many expensive stoves to shame, and is certainly well made, not the cheap unit I was expecting when i ordered it
  4. i have two in the house, a rear flued and straight up and the rear flue does throw more heat, but if straight up through the roof might be easier to install, especially if i have the twin walled pipe already, the one advantage is the flue pipe if inside the shed will allow more heat from the flue to disipate into the shed keeping it warmer, but will take up more space

Hi, has anyone fitted a log burner to a wooden building, im looking at get a cheapy one for my shed to keep me warm and burning bits of off cuts, saw dust and general bits of waste timber on, if so how did you go about fitting the flue through the timber? the burners i have been looking at have mostly been rear flue so exiting through the side of the building, then up into a small capped pipe, but how do i best seal the flue pipe? i assume i need a metal heat sheild, i have access to a 6ft legth of twin wall stainless flue pipe so would i be best using this and going straight up, and just putting a cap on the top of it? cheers for any help Charlie

    i have a htc tytnII which has onboard gps, and will run any windows mobile mapping package, although the only compromise is a small screen for viewing the maps on, something like a cheap ipaq with GPS onboard would be a better option and wont go flat as quick as a gps phone will
  7. sounds like a proper bargin, only issue will be if there is any public access, but even so at that price get it bought, dont forget all the tax benefits from woodland ownership,

    mattracks, not heard many good reviews on them, and they seem very dear, about 4x the price of importing a set of tatou 4s and 3x the price of the commander treks, which are some of the best due to the dual bearings keeping them aligned better. There is also an issue with steering the mattrack litefoots in anything other than snow, where as the treks and 4s are designed for genuine all seasons use ATV tracks wont be a seriously viable option until someone in the UK starts importing them and retailing at a sensible price not the first number that comes into their heads.

    its an erdp grant for forestry round here, so it won't pay for the quad but will pay towards specific forestry items, such as timber trailers. I don't know what grants would be available round you,
  10. sounds like cpl, as i use coals2u which is their website prices normally vary by locations when you put your postcode in on the coals one, if the logs are kiln dried thats not the daftest price i have seen,

    I have one, run it with 24" and 16" bars, its awesome needs a few tank fulls of fuel to get to its best, and also re-set the carb after 10 tanks of fuel mine runs with the 24" bar really well not sure about the price Stanton Hopes website list it as £550 ex vat

Hi, glad you made it over here for forestryforum! i have a folding seat that has lunchbox that is fitted under it, with shoulder straps, it would be handy to have something that the seat made the frame and could have a standard combi can clipped to it either that or a modular system that used something like the system kolpin use on their atv quick racks with a quick twist release, something semi rigid that could also be clipped onto machinery would be handy eg something that could be clipped to an atv rack, trailer frame, tractor cab and stand some abuse would be ace, as it will have to take some bumping about anyway just some ramblings Charlie
  15. your aware that the tct chain on the 460 is in rescue spec not for tree felling type use, its for cutting through fibre roof panels etc for getting into the buildings? i would stick to your guns about them supplying it, stihl uk are still listing the ms460w on the website therefore they must still have some in stock, even if they dont have a 460w i find it hard to believe that the dont have a standard 460 and although im sure your aware of this but thats a plenty big saw for doing your tickets, i ran a 372 for my medium trees CS32 and in fairness i droped back to my husky 340e with 13" bar after two days, that 372 is a smaller saw that the 460 and pulls 24" bar well so unless your regularly running 20"+ then i would say thats a bit overkill, unless your just using it for ringing up and not felling, just my thoughts having used a bigger saw with smaller bar,
  16. also if the management plan is being paid for under the WP grant from FC it needs to be in their format as per the examples in those pdfs, whilst the woodland trust example is a worked through management plan it wont aid you in securing funding, as having the FC type one approved then allows you to access WIG's and WMG's funding streams for assisting in funding woodland operations

  18. i would suggest finding out what funding is available for woodland management locally, as you may beable to get into a forestry commission scheme which would help pay towards thinning the wood if required and helping with stock exclusion (although there could be an issue with this if its a boundary fence with a neighbour) either that or if you own more land you could try and get into another land-based scheme, which has options for woodland management, but these are to some extent location dependant, so knowing which area your in would help in steering you towards possible sources of funding

  20. i know there has been a vid of something similar but never seen the for sale commertially THE STICKLER VEHICLE POWERED LOG SPLITTER/WOOD STOVE on eBay (end time 06-Jan-10 17:29:39 GMT) im not sure about what kit the people giving the quotes have used in the past if this is the safest option
  21. oh dear, no and aga wouldnt be the choice of a chainsaw operator as you cant run an aga on logs it has to be solid fuel (if you stick to the manual), where as a rayburn you can run on logs ok! also would the warming oven not have been a safer bet? thats where my boots go, but dont tell the wife as it doesnt get hot enough to acutally cook anything in there

  24. i know the national park up here changed a load of vehicles over, and mainly on the freelanders they had engine failure at about 30-60K miles on about half a dozen of them, they have scraped them and ditched the lpg in work trucks. I have driven the dual fuel astra about 4 yrs ago and it was a dog, fine in petrol but with the lpg on you wouldnt overtake a lorry on the m'way I have two mates who have lpg one on a freelander and one on an subaru legacy, mate with the free lander sold it when it started being a bit iffy, the legacy runs really well on it, virtually no performance issues, I havent seen anything like enough benefits to merit paying to switch a vehicle, but most the petrol stations up here have lpg, two big ones in town, then several of the smaller independants sell it as well, so there must be some demand
