  1. Id like to get there, but only if i can clear some of this work load i have. will hopefully know by monday and if so can offer lifts form cumbria/north lancs area....
  2. Cumbria firebrigade are getting the 4x4 spec, they did get 6 defender 130's and fully kit them up with lockers, pumps etc then found out you cant tow a bowser under blues.... Doooh Lets just say that somebody is in deep pooh as over 100k was spent and wasted, they should do well with the iveco though
  3. I have just had an argument with a LA that how can they allow there tree officvers to carry out tree surveys privately when it is themselves who will assess the applications when they come in.... Licence to print money etc etc... I am right that youy are on the tools John ? so thats fine in my view but when you are a tree officer/planning Maybe i should put this as a seperate thread.... You should look to be paying £500+ depending on the level of cover and expected turnover. We are also covered for ecology, land engineering, land surveying and environmental surveys so we pay a fair bit more, but if you deal with just trees its not bad. If you have proffesional memberships you can save as well.
  4. wash your mouth out...... there are a few of them for sale i the midlands £17k+vat the wife has said no to my request on the christmas list.
  5. The best tipper you can buy IMO. excellent value for money and rarely go wrong ..
  6. 10,000 is pants we have just done a plan to plant 5000 in two fields for a chap in carlisle. about 2500 are feathered whips the rest are a range of sizes going upto 15cm dbh. Boris should be ashamed
  7. I have used all the current gis mapping systems that are available, both on a research and working projects. 1) Many are way over priced 2) Many have been designed by people with little or no experience of trees 3) Many are not compatable with industry standard import/display software 4) Many are inconsistent with GPS hardware 5) If you have problems some suppliers offer terrible support Beware, as you will get alot of spiel, at the end of the day these are sales people selling these programs with a biased view. I will however recommend the pocket Gis software that you can adapt yourself to any particular job. We have quite substantial GIS experince and can adapt and use mapinfo and arcpad, its a shame its a bit to advanced for general users. PM me your details and i can discuss further.
  8. eeermmmm some of those cones look like salford council issue
  9. Didnt go over -2 all day yesterday, at the moment its -6... just about to put the stoves on.
  10. Its not gone above -4 today, where are you working?

  11. Empty milk bottles on people door handles, ring bell they open the door to get smashing bottle at there feet.. In winter get the lad who always is in bed early by re setting his alarm for 2ish and everyone hide to see him wake think crap im late for school , rushes around and out of the alarm doors in the dorms.. Got 1 lad 8 times in a term once.
  12. Not recommended my wife has seen some horific damage from toothpast on the eyes, can even lead to permenant scaring and partial blindness. we used to fill plant pots at the front of the house with diesel put in front of windows when the mother was coming home , she would pull up and think the house was on fire .... Brill At boarding school there was pranks everyday, this best being the final year the lads painted go faster stripes on the car, only problem was they used water soluble paint, the next year we fixed that....
  13. YThat lad we worked with who wouldnt be told he should of been fired but we gave him chance didnt we bob.... List of things - Climbing up a large pop with spikes facing outwards, wouldnt listen to us, he knew better.... - forgetting helmet and not telling us, we go to emergency and me an bob busting a gut turnround to see what he is doing, got his hands in pockets.... - another emergency job, turn around he has disapeered , came back 30mins later, we say were did you go , oh to the toilet in the garage up the road. - stealing from us, out of bags in the back of van. - starting fights with other staff that had been there for 10+ years. - coming in late. - couldnt climb well - using the 066 & 088 one handed..... - - if chain was blunt , didnt have the common sense to think OH it need sharpening. Thats a few things anyway... He kept me and bob amused for a while...... and we still laugh... Thats sackable
  14. The fact you are asking us shows you are in 2 minds, far to harsh IMO give him a call on give him another chance
  15. IMO you need to have trackers on any makor kit and all work vehicles.... Before somebody says you cant put a tracker on a chippers thats rubbish as it will be found way before they go to strip it etc and find it as most kit is left in a place for 24+ hours to cool down..
  16. Look good, thats a shame about the success rate... We have had some great results with bore cuts etc... Found 3x nocs in one in september but best of all a large limb we strapped up in a tree is being used as a winter roost site by 30+ bats
  17. We use our natural tree features that we strap to trees, much better that over the counter bat boxes and dont stand out like a sore thumb.... If you must nail into the tree use the arbor bolt, has a spring system that limits tree damage...
  18. ie not to keen on firefox, i did download the new google one but it kept crashing as its still in beta stage, looked good though..... but just another step to google world domination
  19. Its got to be my toughbook cf-19- tablet laptop, got it for on site is wterproof etc and mega tough.... Typing on it now as it is small enough to use around the house when not at the desktop pc's... Has in built gps which is sub meter accuracy, bluetooth etc etc Love it and recommend it to everyone, only problem is they are a little pricey
  20. No its only a little one, a pooh is the same size as a mouse whoopsy... The view in the pic doesnt do it justice, it knocked us for six how amazing it was ..
