    Friction cord

i think the liros 8mm is a good cord.
  2. 500-600, 3 men, 1 day?
  3. im meant to be be taking down 2 ash tomorrow but the forcast has put me off. im going to go shopping instead. forcast says it going to be very breezy till wednesday.
  4. snap, thats what ive got. for a small chipper i think its pretty good.

    Salaries

my wife spends it too quickly to count it.
  6. they say oak takes 2 years to season properly. i tend to keep ash and birch for myself and sell or give way the rest.
  7. i was just concerned he was taking the piss. aload of willow/pop can split very easy making them dangerous to fell, they also make **** firewood. ash is the best, hornbeam is like beech and needs to season well. not sure on elm, think its alright. lime isnt meant to be good firewood but good for very turning.
  8. he says he will go 50/50 on the wood? what trees are they? if they are willow/pops i wouldnt bother, if they are good hardwood then unless you got the means to log it up and sell it is it worth it anyway?
  9. i didnt read that post, if the are hung up,be very carefull. if they are biggish do what mr ed says and be very carefull.
  10. when cutting keep the saw level or the end pointing slighty upwards, dont point the end of the bar towards the ground. the bottom of the handle will hit the ground first. like big a said, think about the saw getting trapped.
  11. i wouldnt use a prusik on its own as its not going to self tend.

    DMM Carabiners

nice one, problem is most of these shops sell screw gate ones for rock climbers.
  13. anyone know were i can buy dmm crabs?
  14. im not vat reg, dont really understand the tax system, all i know is the less i pay the better. as far as im concerned they are robbing bast....
  15. im not a fan of snaphook and grab setups. i would buy a wirecore flipline with 2 krabs, 1 pulley, and some cord. those snaphooks look bulky.
  16. i would have told them that they would get a hefty fine if they touched them, but to apply for the work so that this would bring to light to the tree officer that these people had no respect for the trees. i wouldnt waste my time with these idiots.
  17. those screw splitters must be a safer then those saw benches surely. those benches scare me a bit. i havent used one but i dont like the look of them personally. ive had an accident on one of those hydraulic guillotines, the cord wood sprang back and nearly busted my finger.
  18. this is dodgy. if your using a saw up a tree the chain will last alot longer then on the ground as theres less chance of it hitting the ground, stones, nails... so the top handles sprocket would get alot more wear for 3 chains then a ground saw.
  19. dont understand why these Micro grab's are so popular? they cost alot. theres nothing wrong with a 3 way krab and a distel on 8mm with a small pulley. you can replace the cord as often as you want and cut it when your in trouble. most new climber i have seen using these Micro grab have no soft link.
  20. i know a few people who have been pulled. i have kept my chip box on the small side so its hard to overload.
  21. ive got a black vertex but i dont think black is a good choice as its not very hi vis. from a h&s veiw point white or red would be better.
  22. hiax, cant remember which ones. gortex cost about 150.
  23. bill

  24. unplug it, the wind is blowing hard tonight..
