  2. Guys would you like me run a lock jack 101 and tricks workshop at the AA fair in June and ISA workshop and TCC week end in July? Alex
  3. Chaps The rope Mark and chris have got on the clip is the Yale Poison Ivy Hi Ve. its an 11.7mm braid on braid xtc a slightly fatter Blaze, and softer. Very nice to handle good not holding and great to splice. No CE as yet but will be coming i'm sure.
  4. Dear All FYI TCC current forcasted expenditure for 2008 £13150 I am still searching for one more sponsor, please email me if would like to know more.
  5. Entry Fee Changes April 2008-04-30 Dear All We have received some feed bake from some of you and have also read the posts on forums. We are in a different position to the previous years due mainly to the changes in sponsorship. This year the chapter will be funding directly all costs and expenses relating to the TCC in the UK&I, from humble ball points to get your scores on the score sheets to flight for the chapter champs on their way to St Louise in July. To this end we have to make ends meet. It was also clear that very few competitors where becoming members and seeing as 50% of the running costs of the comps are funded by the chapter we felt it was important to try and encourage climber to join the chapter. In refection the increase from £30 for none member to £50 was a big leap for some, the chapter is currently looking at the pricing for the membership options, and might even create on for Tree Climbers. At present the deals we are offering are good and much better than years before, getting you access to nearly all the trade magazines free gifts and benefits card that is now up and running. If you are currently studding at a college either full or part time, then joining the chapter is no brainier, as you will get all this for just £25. I have now had chance to look at the budgets and we will reduce the entry fees to £40 for none members and keep the Members entries at £25. The down fall of this is climbers will have to from now on feed them selves during the day, the judges and techs will still get a lunch but seeing the amount of food that climbers never eat, it would seem more sensible if you all brought what you want to eat with you while competing. I will however try and organise food for the evenings in the form of BBQ’s or hog roast, as we would like to encourage more climbers to camp and have time to chat and share ideas and experiences. In the future, if we change or upset you guys by the decision we make please come and tell us. We are trying hard to pull these comps together for you and as ever the work is done by a few, who will be committing a lot of time and effort for your benefit. So if you want to help and be part of that decision making please step forward and volunteer your time, or at least do us the courtesy of addressing you grievance with us before you start winging and moaning behind closed doors. These are the kind of things that will make people working hard for free giving days at a time for your benefit the urge to walk away.
  6. Contact the client, assess the Heath and safety implacations of the tree work, perhaps fence of the danger area until owl has felged and moved on, then reduce the tree to a safe standing stem, leaving the nest site (unlightly to be higher in the tree than 8-10m) where possible and or erecting an Owl box. Give your self a pat on the back for looking first well done. lol
  7. Very true. Turn up the day before with your shot gun, and exersize your right then sir... as long it is a legal quary species of cause. Define a pest species, any one.
  8. Keep numbering smiple eg ATL C82 is ATL (me) C (climbing) 82 (item number 82) Never reuse a number. so for rigging kit use CN R69 CN (company name) R (rigging) 69 (oh I say thats a big device) use a light color insulation tape with an ohp / chiangraph pen for textil, Use shrinck rap over this tape mark to protect it on ropes, build up a bump of tap to stop the srinck rap moving up and down the rope. You can write straight on to some kit, and engrave the metal work, some rigging kit will mark up with pen as well to make it easy to read, chnage the color of tape for rigging as well, this make ID easy.
  9. Try John Kemp http://www.kemp4x4s.co.uk he is norfolk way but he has a realy good selection of pick ups from lease hire companys and fleet owned. He prity much has one of every thing, plus having dealt with him he is straight up. A rear cooky in the motor world.
  10. There is the half way house the King cab, works well for more sucure gear storage, Hi lux do one so do ranger. But as the man said, it realy only you can decide on this one, Ask what do I want to carry every day, what do I need to carry every now and then, witch would not suit a trailor. What do I need to toe wait wise, how far am I running in it every day, how safe dose my kit need to be. Oh and how much of this is just a feel good purchase, big wheels shiny crome.... not good when quoteing if your truck is smarter than the customers... they will think you earn to much.
  11. enginears dream, with calculations and reffrences well above pay grade hu.... Plus stuff on when to use or when not, leagel responsiblity, monitoring etc for systmes? Canopy access, for sure on the list, SRT dose require some kit mind to make it worth while, you can jug up with two prussics but it's hell.
  12. Could be a tricky one to work in to a session, as it can be a tree time and experiance thing. Saying that never say never, talking about hitch progresion and enargy/effort saving perhaps or just good old fashioned job planning. Could link to the idear of how to quote for a job. Like the support and bracing one, this list is bulking up any more people?
  13. Tony Do we have or where do I find a published set of rules for the East of England climbing comp? Cheers

    Harness Help

Mat, You need to try B4 you bye. No one has the same body shape and many harness are geniric, so look for adjustments, some will have more than others. It not the case you pay your money as some harness witch are very poor laking in features and support etc are as expesize as the rest. Get your self to an event or a big dealer and try them on and hang in them, adjust to fit you!!! make sure you get a floating Bridge, leg loops or sit thats up to you. So bye on what right for you, not on cost. You may save a ten bar but you will be climbing and working in this harness for 2-3yrs 3-6 days a week, tryig to earn your coin. It's like get the cheapest work boots and then blowing a fortune on the must have trainers to stand in a puddle of piss down the pub.... ummmm

If you get a good one As long as you look after it, it will pay you back in no time. There are a couple of good bye new, well bulit small chippers out there worth a look, TUNNISSEN 19 german bit of kit, smallest petrol Timberwolf and the GreenMec eco arborist is ok for the money. Good luck

  20. What Legal stuff? TPO and the like or bussiness stuff or Heath and saftey
  21. Would you all think that an update on rescue be good for a work shop? pole rescue espicaly?
  22. Whats the diferance? Lantra http://www.lantra-awards.co.uk/ will give you structured training course and at the end a certificate of training. NPTC http://www.nptc.org.uk/ will give you an indapendently assessed certificate of competence. (this means you can do the task safely and correctly, not that you are any good at earning money from this skill yet!) You need to complie to the heath and saftey regs in the uk have NPTC chain saw units, if you have done your LANTRA course and working with an NPTC qualified operator you can work to gain experance before going for your NPTC, but for other kit like chippers and stump grinds a LANTRA award will be fine. You need to read HSE "Chain saws at work" http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg317.pdf http://www.hse.gov.uk/agriculture/forestry.htm http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/forindex.htm You all so need to prove you have update training every 3 year for occasional users and 5 years for full time users. How you go about this is up to you, it would be your day in court!
  23. So what do you want, what would you realy like to learn about. what are you unsure about, stuff you have seen but don't yet know enough to try it for your self with out wasting to much time on?
  24. GRCS every time, Its a one man deal, so that a climber with one groundy can work it fine, witch makes it worth using for the smallest rigging task. It self tails, locks of and has the option of the friction drum with 1/4 rap control. You will need to look after it mind, not for people who sling all their kit in with the chip and service and clean their gear only when it breaks.
  25. Thats esay, work hard...
