I suggest you try and win hose quotes by being clever and see what others have missed, plan avoid a big mess and damage client tickled pink and the word spreads, you will then find your self with more and more job where you are not quoteing aganist any one because they want you to do the job. If money talks you need to sell your self and tell the cleint the difference between you and the loppers and toppers, and the extra cost they can bring. eg damage, mess, crap job, f**k trees that will contiune to need more money spent on them, TPO fines, no insurance.... the list gose on.

RE Soft links You only need a soft link if you are using a wire core flip line. No need if you are using rope as last time I tried a knife will go through that just fine. Ps good luck with the spider Jake let us know 6 months down the line. what have you convereted from? prussicc micro hitch lock jake?

Got to put my bit in here. Cut and hold with a chain saw? In my eyes if some one needs use this methord they can't have a brain, you want to cut your self with a chain saw, use it one handed you want that cut to put you out of work for life or in a wooden box cut and hold. If you have got a brain you should be able to work round the situation and plan ahead right from the moment you see the tree, weather thats quoteing or doing your risk assessment when you get sent to the job site. Any one who cut and holds and justifes it as the only way to get on etc, is not comppedent to use the saw and needs to drop the ego get some new knowlege and live a full and happy life. It's not just your self you will effect but those around you watching you losing pint after pint of clarrate as the strugale to get to you and the come to terms with it all years after. Mozza you know you are right the hard part is now getting through the bone head you are working with. Good luck you will need it. You can shoot away chaps but you know I am on the safe side of the still unharmed fence.

Ps look out for rigging reaseach when we get it eveniualy that might just through the rule of thumb in the fire basket for winter.

The only advantage of a longer rope would be a longer working life. The ends of yale always what ever you do get fluffy meaning re cutting, the nature of rope on bark and knots thightenig under load is going to wear the first 2m of rope you use, so swap the ends of rope work with. Oh and not saying your crew is going to ever land a peice in such a place where they need to breack it down with a saw and get all carried away with how good they are and just forget the rope is still on it and oh buggger bum tit. (is the to rude for here steve?) I better just say oh cock.... oh cock time for top gear.. laters

not a big expence either, I would go for the ISC one easier to get your ropes in and out of than the cmi

Thats still a locking brummel but they are showing you how to do a cross over to get a uniform diamiter and a core full leneth of your eye to eye.

They are ok, but for the money they did not last long enough for me six or so weeks and I had wholes in finger tips (only used them climbing as well, anel like that), they died my hands black and then shades of blue for the first week and on the whole where overly hot to work in. The holly grale of gloves, best so far I would reccomend the Urwin genarle constuction for climbing and there extreem condition for ground work, good anit vib and good in the wet. Or from the Range enginers gloves yellow back, black new buck palms for about £4 a copy of the old barco pruning gloves.

Hello there every one, Congratulations to Jo Hedger the new Female world champion and female foot lock record holder. Scott Forrest came a very respectable 2nd to Bedders . A big well done also to both Phillipa and Jon, winning the European Crowns and both only just missing a place in masters finals in the worlds. Don't mean to worry you but the welsh comp is only couple of weeks of now, places are filling up slowly but there are some left so If you would like to climb please get in touch and reserve your spot. Saturday is prelim day starting at 9.30 am walk round so it is your responsibility to get signed in and kit checked before then, or you will miss the walk round and if you are then not ready to climb when the events start you will be DQ'd for being late to your station. Please make sure you bring Payment with your entry forms. Registration will be open from late afternoon Friday until dark and the calling of a beer and the camp fire. No excuses please guys we need to run to time. No lunch for climbers at this event but there will be food on site provided by the same team as we have had in Bute park the last few years. Camping is Free and we have toilets and hopefully showers available. Dogs with well trained owners are most welcome. We have a hog roast we will need to sell tickets for this to cover cost unless some would like to sponsor it, and this will be open for every one to enjoy. The Pa and power is sorted so we should have music all night long and possible band in the early evening. We can have a big fire, but only one, so please help us out and don't start any other around the camp site. Due to the event being at the end of the year, we are going to need to cut bake in some places to come in on budget for the year, this might mean dropping prelim prize money as well as some other areas. We apologies for this, but we feel a successfully run comp for many is more important. Any one who has not yet claimed there prize money please do so ASAP. The cheques will be expire as from 31/12/08 so don’t miss out on your winnings. The UK&I TCC would like to thank our sponsors for 2008 Arbor Venture , Forest and Arb.com , Honey Brothers Ltd , TreeClimber.ie and Trees Unlimited If you would like to no more please see details on the events page. All the results and galleries pages have now been updated so pop in and have a look! http://www.isa-tcc.co.uk

I have got one called the Wood Wasp from Trees Unlimited that criag sourced a couple of years back, its about 12-14" long 4" wide with half a taper weadge half the covered handle, with a tape lanyard and small key ring type kab. I love it very good for holding cuts open or used as a mini lever for those ones that just don't want to fall of.

It's a power to the people kind of thing, if we give NPTC or LANTRA a clear idear of how many people are lightly to want the qualification and we get HSE to back it as a clear rout to a standered. We have other issues to look into such as EN and CE regs for terminations and as said it is more than just a test for one rope type or constucution, the qualification needs to look at severl splicing metordes and reconition of diamiter and matiral changes. So the comment who has the time, it more who is willing to give the time to get the ball rolling, and who is willing to support the moves made rather than just pop of a cheap shot after considered work and effort. This will need trust, backing and commitment from those who will benift.

Any one who is coming please fill a form and bring it with you. Cheers alex

so then what as an indusrty should we do. As arb cop kev rightly points out the rope companys are shying away. They all offer splicing instutions for their rope products, and splicer worth their whipping follow these for each rope type from each manufuture. I myself splice, but will not readly up until now would not splice for some one I was not working with or inspected gear for. So I could monitor my work so to speak. Some splicer will put the CE number (nothing but the test house number ) on their marking this is the ce for the rope not the splice, so would a loler inspector know that? umm. Back to the point. Option one. No hand splicing Option two. we form some sort of industry lead Guild of splicers. Option three we push Lantra and NPTC for a level 3 qualification for this ever growing and usefull skill. Please vote now.
