  1. cheers guys. might give the 88p option a go first!!
  2. I use a one way gate on my harness for shortening my saw strop when moving about the tree, not sure which one i've got now (had a few different ones) but the way it is shaped kinda encourages it to stay the same way up so clipping my saw in is easy, thing is they always (50/50) manage to turn the other way up and i would really rather it stayed the right way round! I've tried the petzl caritool and found them to be not that robust. are there any one way caribiners out there which are weighted to stay open end down? (if you know what i mean)
  3. I wouldn't trust this too much! I've always timber hitched a rope above and below the cut (cut the rope into the stem as well!) like when snatching i guess. I realise that this must put great amounts of pressure on the rope if they bounce and should really get a chain but never had one snap
  4. I thought they were designed before the chainbrake was introduced, hence the location of the protection. Grippy's all the way!
  5. What did you go for in the end? I'm currently looking at a iveco 35c14 or a cabstar 35.13, both crew cabs, similar age & condition

  7. For those who had a choice, who went for the older group??
  8. I have been thinking recently about what to do with old chains, from a thread I started recently it sounds like most people don't do anything with theirs. Now I don't know how much it'd be worth but how about having an old chain bin at the shows(maybe on the arbtalk stand), all proceeds from weighing in the steel could be put towards buying books for loans. (no-ones allowed to pick through the bin looking for chains that'd be good for one last rub over either!!)
  9. Mines out on loan so I'll wait for it's return. A must read IMO!
  10. Drew, do you have no bits of rope which haven't been spliced?
  11. Does anybody recycle their old chains?
  12. I pulled an old birdbox off a takedown I was doing about 10 ft up, as soon as it was off and in my hands lots of bumble bees surrounded me! I dropped the box(sorry bees) and got out of there. went back after hopping a few hedges , moved the box nearby and got on with chogging the stem down, every time I stopped cutting a few would appear have a look for their house then disappear when the saw was going again. good bees!! (we called a bee man to collect the nest) don't get me started about wasps though.
  13. Is this in the favourite quotes thread yet?
