  1. Apologies, of course there has to be constant venting as you are creating kiln internal positive pressure - I had internal kiln fans in my mind like most commercial lumber kilns. I appreciate that to keep costs down all the Firewood kilns use plate heat exchangers with integral fans - as you know, not as energy efficient as heat passes straight out but to go the route of internal titanium heat exchangers and internal fans with humidity stat. controlled vents with exhaust fans adds massivly to initial costs. With the RHI knowone seems to care about efficiency for clear reasons. You must tire of the endless posts about kiln drying now that you are less involved, however your input is much appreciated on the Forum. Any change of some more images of the finished heiz boiler firewood drying installation?
  2. That is an impressive setup ! Do the heat exchangers have integral fans and is the kiln constantly vented out at the far end or do you have operational vents that are controlled by a 'wet bulb' stat. which open periodically to dump the moisture laden air every few minutes?
  3. Not sure about the Tafjun, but with an 8 way in ours we always end up resplitting about 15-20 % unless dead straight uniform Larch or similar. We tend to re-split as we go rather than trying to sort out oversize later to split.
  4. Yes this Larch is a good price and the perfect size for processing - not too large for processor and dead straight all of what I have seen and plenty more on the site.
  5. That's a refined Italian boiler ! Quality and impressive efficiency figures, so I can clearly see why you chose it. What Kw is it? Did you get it from Mibec in Whitchurch and can you remember the retail price? Why did you buy 2? Perhaps 1 alone was short on Kw to utilise a 40ft container? I was investigating a Farm 2000 175Kw batch boiler, however knowhere near the level of yours. Thanks for the info.
  6. What make of boiler do you have, is there a reason why you chose the make you did and do you feed it with 0.5 m lengths of split Larch? Thanks
  7. Have you found a solution to getting the crates at the far end of the container to dry at a similar rate to those closer to the fans/heat exchanger?
  8. Do you rate it over a Posch 360 with TCT circular saw blade?
  9. Agreed, my heat exchanger is producing just 'hot air' so metering not practical. All things considered, I think ultimately I will be able to dispose of some assets and go with a 40ft passive container with heat recovery and come up with a Heizomat solution with Rob Nash. Those 198 Heizomats are extremely frugal on fuel, looking at equivalent of 2m3 firewood / 24hrs. The idea of stoking a 200kw batch boiler several times a day for 20 years does not appeal anymore! With chip you can run 24/7 maximum output and with a good lead time on drying own roundwood/contract chipping there is an extremely robust business model with good margins, as you have indicated previously. Economies of scale stack up extremely well. Appreciate your input.
  10. No the woodfired unit is forced 'hot air', controlled, which I plan to harvest container vent heat in the near future. We are on a different temperature gradient than most kilns. Uncanny that I had been considering hybrid as a way forward but I have been finding it tedious getting answers as to wether I could have biomass and Solar T. as 2 seperate NEW certified power sources supplying energy to a common commercial wood drying installation. Perhaps I should have sought your advice?
  11. Even though my super insulated hot air self fabricated unit is very efficient burning sub 20% timber, I am still interested in RHI using Solar Thermal, Insulation optimisation and flue recovery system. At present these type of installations are few and far between in the UK and available data is practically zero. It appears that it is down to the individual to research, design and build their own installation. Of course available sunlight is the issue, but solutions do exist.
  12. Is yours running a complete 40ft container? My experience is it takes 15m3 of 20% MC Larch to dry a 40ft container of green mixed hardwood down to 20% MC. Would you agree?
  13. Yes, but own fabrication, not a 175KW factory built.
  14. Apologies, lapse of concentration - I was thinking roundwood to processed ratio 1:2 approx. Dried down to 20% MC do you agree 3-4 m3 per tonne?
  15. KWh/Kg has a direct relationship with wood moisture %. 4KWh/Kg equates to 20% wood moisture content - 4KWh being the amount of energy a Kg of wood produces at 20% moisture when burnt in a 100% efficient appliance.
  16. So equates to approx. 1.5 tonnes roundwood / 24 hrs. You can appreciate the returns possible burning quality fuel. Thanks for the data.
  17. Does the innovator of the system plan to post their proposals on the Forum?
  18. Has anyone on the Forum got a 175kw wood fired Batch Boiler heating a 40ft shipping container to dry firewood? Can you advise on the fuel consumption / 24hrs burning 'dry' wood as fuel in the boiler? Thanks
  19. NO NO NO NO NO Do not spend another penny or second of your time on this as it will never give you a return. This is a niche market in the extreme, which will never be scaleable. Development and patent costs would be massive. Stick with what you are good at if it is a proven model that earns you money. If you put your time, money and energy into your existing business, your efficiency will improve, the phone will ring more and you will increase your income. Good luck.
  20. If someone with your background is unable to generate 'sufficient margin' to make offering a Kiln in return for a proportion of RHI payments worthwhile, I would suggest it is highly unlikely anyone else would be able to. Glen Farrow have a viable business model, as they have managed to convince people to generally borrow on finance and hand over the cash in full in return for a product, which at best is unproven and may be subject to scrutinisation by the RHI administrators in the not too distant future. The small print in their Contract is there for their legal protection if things do not go well further down the line. Everything is looking great at the moment for those with the installation up and running - I hope it lasts.
  21. He has invested heavily so far then. Very few firewood retailers are in a position to be able to purchase outright, or raise finance, so the uptake will be the other option. It will be interesting to see the pricing structure - for sure there will be an initial down-payment required to cover the assoiciated installation costs and to recover the installation if the end user does not hit the targets. Thanks
  22. I am always interested in the latest products that become available. For those with an endless supply of unusable timber that can't be chipped and they have the time to naturally dry it, batch boilers may have a place if the emissions following accreditation are credible. I think if his pricing structure is sensible , he may have a lucrative business in the making, based on the fact that many seem keen to sign up for 20 years free payments the government are offering.
  23. Not sure that approach is acceptable - straight fell onto parking and highway that is vunarable to damage and may contain services.
