  1. Could you PM any contacts you have for IBC's? Can send an arctic up for 52. Thanks
  2. It is a standard insulated container, with 300mm of additional insulated cladding in addition. 15 x 30 panels. H stat. to control vent fans when internal reaches pre-determined RH level Looking at 10-14 days to lower MC from 50-60 to 20-25. Do you think that is achievable?
  3. Agreed, as December one of the worst months. You will generate an average of approx 1.95 kWh per day (24 hr period) per m3 of panel in the UK. (Based on average Solar thermal efficiency of 75%) So a 2.5Kw panel can generate 4.88 Kw per day. Anyone care to comment?
  4. How many panels should I be looking at for a 20ft hi-cube container - thinking around 12? Not entirely sure how they are rated per panel.
  5. I'm not surprised. I found it difficult to make the figures stack up, as high price per panel for low KW/h output, multiplied up for a 20ft container requiring 12 panels. Several years to break even. Possibly why I have seen knowone else with similar setup. Of course I may be missing something elementary, which is a shame as I like the whole principle.
  6. Ah thanks - over 45KW no then. Using an MCS guy makes sense, providing he/she has the knowledge/experience. Perhaps meet up with a few local installers and test the water. Did they do the Accreditation admin. for you?
  7. Do you still have to use MCS - as it is commercial?
  8. What make and size of boiler did you buy in the end? I have heard good reports on those dedicated sawdust burners, especially with the quantities you are producing. I know a few who add a few buckets in their batch boilers on RHI each time they re-fuel, seems to work well if you are sensible with quantity added,
  9. Generous of you to share. As solar is practically fully automated appeals to me and using the sun is the greatest benefit! Is it a major hurdle getting the Accreditation for RHI having installed it yourself? Also any good Solar Tube and ancillary suppliers you could recommend? Much appreciated.
  10. Been busy - Thanks for the reply John. Yes, solar tubes give enhanced RHI return, which is why I cannot fathom why more aren't adopting your installation - possibly because few have solar drying operational. I am not sure if everyone grasps the concept that the RHI is what makes Solar very attractive and setup cost minimal compared with a chip boiler. I am finding it hard to crunch the numbers when calculating the tube requirement for a 40ft insulated container. Any pointers would be appreciated.
  11. Maybe knowone dries Firewood using Solar?
  12. Solar drying looks an attractive proposition , as you can claim the RHI throughout the summer months. Getting the insulated setup correct is more complex. Not sure if RENEWABLE JOHN ever got the time to commission his plans? Has anyone experience of this concept on the Forum? Any guidance would be much appreciated.
  13. Generally Farmers only sell land if they are selling up or retiring. One thing is for sure you won't get small area for less than 10 - 20K/acre. Good luck.
  14. Treelife with Dave and Andy as top tutors, will give you a far better understanding of tree management than Myerscough route initially - having done both I would without doubt start with Treelife and have some fun at the same time! Good luck.
  15. Processed 50T Larch last year - fantastic when dry!
  16. Thanks - I agree on all counts!
  17. Thanks for the feedback - I definately had no plans to persue the GF route. Your advice re: contract set at the current rate is inspired - I'll remember that option for future unrelated negotiations. I think Rob at HH uses the Heizomat and Lenz (nothing better IMO) - but if I recall correctly, at £90 - 100K for the chip / lenz / 40ft container installation, it will be a bit rich for the Firewood retailers out there? However running 24/7 dropping down to Tier 2 RHI, there is still a model there with good margins, especially if you can secure some contract drying. What do you think?
  18. Quite right "future drops in the RHI rate" ( assessed quarterly) Also correct " Once you have been accredited your tariff is guaranteed for 20 years"
  19. Ah good to see you back on the Forum. I was not referring to the GF setup, we both know all about that. They had specifically prepped. the fuel ready for the certification process - in reality very few will be burning timber with that low an MC in their batch boiler. As always many of these claims are not actual reality - preparing low MC fuel and tending batch boilers is time consuming if they are to run anywhere near efficient. Also all the Commercial RHI payments are taxable at the standard rate. I am waiting to see who else launches a chip boiler / container package onto the market ?
  20. I had a conversation last Sunday with a man who claimed you could be accredited for RHI payments for running a Firewood Drying Kiln in 4 weeks. His aim I think was to becombe accredited in time to beat the proposed 1st January 2015 estimated 20% degression in payments, when the Tier 1 rates could fall from 7.6p/kWh to 6.1p/kWh. Do you think this is humanly possible? I expect there are lots on the Forum keeping their fingers crossed!
