Morning All GreenMech is putting on a couple of dates for factory tours etc. The first date will be Wednesday 25rd April and will be limited to 18 to 24 places for the first date with another proposed a week or two later. I have a few names already on the list but if you wish to come, please email your contact details to either [email protected] or [email protected] to book a place. The factory is at B49 5QG The day will start at 09:30 with coffee and bacon bun. There will be a short welcome speech, followed by a Power Point slide show showing the pedigree of manufacturing at the GreenMech site and a few facts and figures about what it takes to manufacture machinery for a year. The GreenMech factory tour can take a couple of hours and this will be followed by a buffet lunch. There will be a chance to try various woodchippers and following an open forum/coffee break the day will end. We try to get visitors away by 14:30/15:00 to allow for distances etc. If attendees have a special dietary need, please add this detail to your email and we will try to accommodate you. It is a proper working facility and we would ask that you dress appropriately - especially if you wish to use a chipper too! Applications will be screened but otherwise, are open to anyone who has a 'bent' for machinery, factory processes, is considering a purchase and is curious etc. Previously held events have been well received by all and your picture may well end up in the national trade press/social media. Thank you.
  5. In their day, they worked well and had a good spec. I brought one off of the Northern Rep, Nigel Wright (retired over ten years ago) and the second for my Unimog off of Hubert Nightingale in 1996(?). I went to work for GM a couple of years later and eventually got Hubert's job. I had a hand in building the last of the 152 and 202 units.
  6. Ask them where you need to be! Look at eBay and auto trader and these others and prepare yourself for a shock. LandRovers are better than stocks and shares at the moment!
  7. If my memory serves well, a crew cab has to be able to carry a tonne to qualify as vat reclaimable and a few tow 3500kg too.
  8. I may well be wrong but something in the back of my mind makes me think that Jo Beau and Rajo once 'shared' a design team - (euphemism for plagiarism). We liked the Rajo but while it worked well, it was a tad expensive in the UK. Hence us coming up with our version. We have thought of putting it on a driven base (I think Steve Blair first did this to Gloria) but it was too complicated to do it using the V twin and putting another engine in the mix added to the cost and we got back to square one! The access issue is usually put right with some thought and muscle. Rob Rainford tells me that years ago he dismantled his in to 4 parts and carried her up flights of stairs to a roof top garden! Every machine is an attempt at covering as many points as possible and always a compromise in one way or another. That may be cost, size, weight, specification, engine etc.....a design may pinch and idea or two garnered from elsewhere (think back to the Barford/Landforce chipper, think back to the Jensen X track, think back to the Bandit/AusChip - the list goes onwards and that is just in the world of chippers!).
  9. Oh, I not threatened by the Peruzzo, after all, it is a blinding facsimile of a cracking machine and plagiarism is the best form of flattery! I'm not threatened by the cheap Chinese either, everything has a place in the market and I'm quite enjoying the banter and the attention it brings to the brand. The 'just saying' tag is a legpull too!
  10. At least we had the decency to say "brilliant machine but a tad too dear for UK market, please get your prices right!" They said that the price stayed the same. We said that if they wouldn't build to shoot UK price structure, we would. They said that they wouldn't so we did so that you could have a professional kit that retained value! Just saying.....
  11. No little tracked one, why didn't they just copy our manuals, they did everything else! I even saw a copy of one of our tech drawings on one website!

  13. Okay, I'll look into a day for a group of tree people. It may be in a couple of months, we start at 09:30, meet and greet with coffee. Introductory speech followed by a Power Point on the pedigree and facts and figures. Grouped up (depending on total number) and a tour of the facility. Buffet lunch and then you can have a play on whatever demo units we have. Last thing is coffee/tea and open forum. We try to get you away for 14:30/15:00. We would look to have 18 or so people to split into three groups so as not to hinder the workforce while getting a good look about. We naturally expect that if asked, you do not mention something that you have seen in the factory that may be commercially sensitive (prototypes, methods, materials etc). If you wish to come, please send your contact details to [email protected] and advise if you have any special dietary requirements (Vegan/Gluten free/Lactose Intollerant etc) I'll also advertise this elsewhere on the forum and it is open to all (well, nearly) people with an interest in machinery and manufacturing. Date to be confirmed later - but usually done mid-week.
  14. Did you order one at Vincent's Open Day just last week? Sure a factory visit is okay, I'll talk to Julian on Monday and ask him to keep a watching brief and organise one so that you can witness the birth of yours. Have a think on the colour of the decals or backing behind the logo and let us know and we will look into it. Yours will hit assembly in 6 weeks or so, are you okay if I see if anyone else fancies tagging on? I got a college visit soon as well as a load of Lantra people, but would put on group visits by request.

  16. Of course you can join the club Baz, all makes welcome....Good to know that while Peruzzo copied GreenMech - at least they made a complete hash of the finer points like manuals etc.
  17. That figure of 2040kg is probably a metric conversion of an imperial weight?
  18. I think the ruling is more to do with the status, ie, a dual purpose vehicle (4x4 crewcabs) should be less than this 2040kg, above isn't classed as dual purpose and is a commercial truck. Slightly different MOT status too. Not an expert, just saying...... Would the firm that sold it to you, have some responsibility for informing you under 'duty of care'?
  19. Correct. If a crewcabs weighs more than 2040kgs unladen, it is no longer classed as dual purpose and as such, is restricted to 60 as the national speed limit. Now that the automatic speed cameras are getting linked to the central computers through the ANPR system, you could be 'innocently' doing 70 on a dual carriageway or motorway and get an easy three points and fine! The 2.2 Unlimited or XLT come under the weight so are okay. Apart from they need a few more ponies!
  20. My 63plate Ranger had engine swap at 100k, new DPF very soon after too. Gets between 17 and 32. Shame the 3.2 isn't supposed to do over 60mph on the road, few other crewcabs are the same too!
  21. Would prefer a couple or three hits, don't mine loose, don't mine how they dried (annoyed with wet, sawmill waste). Close to Tuxford.
  22. I find standing behind an old circular, powered by a grey fergie, very therapeutic. But I don't get enough time to keep up with the amount that the four fires at hers burn! Yet, I may still take the offer!
  23. I could do with some contact details for bulk suppliers into North Nottinghamshire. Barn or Kiln dried, loose or packaged! This is not for selling onwards but for my own use. PM me if you need more info. Looking for approx 10-15 tonnes. Thanks!
  24. The bearings would have to be very, very bad (welded together) before any drag would noticeable. Like Jase says, open the top a get the big bar! Rotate it backwards too!
