  1. Cert. waiting for me when I got back from work today. Thanks for organising the course Jonesie, looking forward to inspecting piles of kit:thumbup: Congratulations to all who passed, cheers Matt.
  2. For rope to winch attachment assuming mid-line tying; alpine butterfly, quick to tie but can tighten under heavy load still easier to unpick than a fig 8 or either variant of bowline on a bight. Can't really explain why but tend to use alpine butterfly if setting up a pulley system and a bowline on a bight if using the landy's winch.
  3. Yep looks like the road up to Wasdale Head, the NT campsite wasn't to bad but a bit of a trek to the Wasdale Inn when it isn't so sunny, haven't stopped at the site over the road from the inn.
  4. The last pic by the river gives only a hint of how steep the slope was, thank the lord for the winch.
  5. Mainly on 30m Blaze with VT and hitchclimber and a 2.5 ish m Blaze strop with VT and micro pulley. System works consistently wet or dry, well generally, until the rope get covered in algal slime off sycamores.
  6. Anyone stopping at the C&C site or sh... the stile cop car park should take their bike, quick play on stile cop then up the valley bottom for a couple of hundred metres to next fireroad on right upto ridge top and the last couple of sections of the Monkey trail, that should sort your hangover out.
  7. If you can, contact Jeepster he has just started to manufacture log burners, he's put some effort into the design check out his geodesic domes for some idea of his work. Cheers Matt.
  8. Good work, nice to see veteran tree management would have been a shame if it had been removed.
  9. Got to agree with SWB about the geckos, gaff is reasonably safe from accidental damage unless some one goes out of their way and walks them over junk; quick tickle with a flat file and biting like new.

We can but hope Liam. Hows the world with you, work going well? Arbocop the course was definitely useful, learn't a few tricks had some of the rough edges knocked off.
  11. Full house on Christmas day, then if we can find somewhere to stay a couple of days at one of the 7stanes

Well as of 12.30 I now hold a shiny new cs41:001_smile: Just have to persuade Simon to invest in a Hobbs. Thanks to Richard at KTS.
  13. Does the bouldering wall on the rhs as you walk in still exist? Used to climb there about 16 years ago, worth the journey from Bridgend for the evening.
  14. The Landy boys will be along in a minute with some advice.
  15. I'd have to agree with the concensus on the ident; quite a few ailanthus in Coventry. Whether the thing in the photo could be described as a tree is another matter, can grow into quite attractive trees but that truly is fugly.
  16. Lots of interesting replies, makes choosing just one very difficult for the congenitally indecisive but if pinned down it would probably have to be lime.
  17. Got a nice willow/ivy repollard coming up soon Liam, might save it for Joe, broaden his experience.
  18. Can we assume the trunk to be a right circular cylinder?
  19. Glad to hear the hole is healing nicely. Got Joe to deadwood the Oak over the the palisade fence, he's light enough to float gently onto the top of it:thumbup1: When are they letting you work again?
  20. You will need a new shifter, lbs should have told you, SRAM and Shimano have different actuation ratios. Any particular reason for the switch?
  21. Not entirely sure about that MB, fell about 35' in Cheddar Gorge a few years back. Had time to think "Haven't I hit the ground ye...". Anything under 20' seems to be over too quickly to react, just get that weightless sensation.

The granite on Bodmin moor is worth a visit too. Less crowded than most West Penwith rock and closer to Padstow, also there is some excellent bouldering on culm not far north, between crooklets and duckpool, near Bude. In fact if you've got your adventure head on there are some wild looking routes along the whole of the north coast.
  23. Timberdog have you tried DC Burgoynes, out near Chadwick End, they sell/. and service both Husky and Stihl. Also carry a small range of arb equip. and Echo. Not too difficult to find, if you go through Temple Balsall then take the second left, Watery Lane, after the sharp right hander. At the end turn left toward Chadwick End, passing the Navigation Inn on you right, look out for the A board at Heronfield farm on your right and turn down the track there.
  24. #1 SLF - Inflammable Material, was a very angry young man . . . most recent Newton Faulkner and Kate Rusby - The Girl Who Couldn't Fly, mellowed a bit over the years.
