  1. Stick a Tibeten cherry in the hole. Bonny trees, nice bark and slightly less surface roots than other Prunus spp.
  2. I'd hang fire on planting for now. I've observed that saplings and young trees appear to be particularly susceptible to ADB. It might be that a more resistant strain of ash is identified soon and propagated. Woodland dynamics are going to change, ash and sycamore are adversaries in a woodland. Emerald ash borer is also waiting in the wings: Emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis) - Forest Research WWW.FORESTRESEARCH.GOV.UK Information about the emerald ash borer beetle (Agrilus planipennis), an insect pest of ash trees
  3. I bet you can't wait for them to go back. My sister dropped her tribe off today and is well happy about it. I hope it all goes well, the vaccines work and we can get back to business soon.
  4. Yeah, it is a bit sensationalist. I reckon "rat-licker" is more pertinent.
  5. I dunno, I've been shocked at seeing mature trees go from optimal to sub-optimal condition in a period of months. Chalara restricts the vascular capacity of ash and it becomes very brittle, very fast. It is very likely that >85% of our ash trees are going to struggle with it. Which is canny bad. If I had roadside ash trees I'd be monitoring them closely. No-one wants to work with dead ash over roads.

  8. Of course the NHS is an overcomplicated beast. I do reckon they need to do something to entice people into working there. Seemingly stitching their own workforce is unlikely to endear any future prospective candidates. I also maintain that it's a convenient reason to write less about covid deaths and shabby trade deals. All good timing for a week where schools reopen and the "super-spreading" starts again. Tin foil hat ahoy!
  9. I reckon it's distraction from covid deaths, mass public discontent at a 1% pay rise for the NHS, and the growing shitstorm over Ireland/Norn Iron trade thing.
  10. I don't know. Given that the rest of the 'civilised' world has nukes too, it's a safe bet that if a 'Rogue State' did turn us back into atoms they would probably get blown to bits themselves, in the very near future. We already have airframes that can deliver things at Mach 6. Trident is a waste of money.
  11. Very much against. What's the point? Mutually Assured Destruction is a moronic idea. Labour renews vow to keep nuclear weapons WWW.BBC.CO.UK The party says the Trident missile system is "non-negotiable" and pledges to support Nato.

    Covid-19

I don't know about a level maths, I did have to do canny advanced maths when doing my degree in arb though. I could probably handle the GCSE physics bit. To be fair, I'm more concerned about the amount of people launching themselves off bridges, and the socio-economic effect of failed lockdowns than I am about kids missing another month or two of school.

Not my problem mate. I'd rather be able to go for a pint with my friends, than worry about international travel.

    Covid-19

I mean everyone. Bangup for a month and virus would be just about eradicated.

    Covid-19

If they had just slipped us all a couple of K and told us to stay home for a month, we could have sorted this last year. I don't have kids, I don't think that their schooling is the biggest unnecessary casualty right now either. If you're incapable of home-schooling a child, you probably aren't qualified to have one.
  17. Sounds like a nightmare mate. The ever changing IR35 scenario is a minefield. It sucks that they still shaft you even when you've played by their rules. I was close to being in a similar boat, but have managed (so far) to avoid a whirlpool. Things are going to improve on the tree surveying side when they get round to reading the new Environment Bill. I hope things work out favourably for you with 'The Rev'.
  18. Lying politicians in general.
  19. I give a shit. I'm not bothered what colour flag they fly, they're taking us for a ride and should be held to account. You're frequently banging on about how bad the SNP are. Here's an opportunity to hold a bunch of incompetents responsible for their failings.
  20. The judgment is in - Good Law Project GOODLAWPROJECT.ORG The High Court has ruled “The Secretary of State acted unlawfully by failing to comply with the Transparency Policy”...
