1. Still got my topping strop some where though Mick !
2. What absolute moronic lunacy , I hope they get sued for millions when one does fail and they see how much money they have saved. Let's hope the contractors who do the surveys have the sense to pull out as well although undoubtedly some chump will jump in and do it for peanuts any way... very glad to be out of public sector tree work , it is done for!
3. It adds friction like a lowering device , if you use a bollard your doubling the force on the top rigging point.. this acts like a bollard at the top of the tree, they are pretty smooth and easy to use.
4. Good to hear 👍🏻 hope you enjoy !
5. There might be some cabins at Stonehaugh up for rent Darrin they would be cheap .... bit of a midge infested swamp in the forest like, but I can have a look up on the notice board at the social club when I go up for a drink tomorrow if you like.
6. I'll try that or Mick's idea. They are good lucky , I would buy another if I had too... hopefully will last a life time !
7. Should put less force on the rigging point for dodge trees mate.
8. No mate was the same way as always with the rigging line out the bottom.... I'm not sure why it twisted in that way though on that one bit as it was butt roped.... so fairly obvious where the balance would be and the bit was heavy! as I've done a few dismantles with it now and it's only done it the once ... I rigged the rest of the stem down and it didn't do it again. I remember when I got it spliced the guy said there had been issues with certain ropes used though.
9. Cheers pete... I think it's tenex , didn't realise how bad the photo quality down load was but here is a replication..
10. Is it supposed to do this ?? Been rigging quite a bit lately nothing big but as I've only been using it on 10mm line ....rigged out the top of this dead oak in 3 bits a week or so back not big bits either but the safe bloc ended up on its side in its rigging sling on the last branch, this slightly concerns me, customer just emailed some pics as at the time I didn't take any although they are bad if you zoom in you can see the problem. So the question is does it need re splicing or is this normal ? Is there a strong chance of it slipping out altogether if I up the game and put a 16mm rope on and go for some big chunks is what concerns me ATTACH]222175 The top was in three bits so was not overloaded I would of thought?
11. I love it it's my go to reduction saw/pruning saw the chain leaves a great finish for that sort of work , I think a mod is necessary though if you want to use it seriously for that sort of work.
12. You can take the saw to bits remove spark arrestor and put it back together or just take a 9mm or bigger drill bit and bypass it below the existing hole and that takes about 20 seconds... have done 3 of my own now and it still makes me smile giving this little saw a bit more potential. I don't show the hole in the vid but can get you a photo , the pick up and cut speed is increased , I've never felt the need to do the timing mod as I think the saw is on its limits with the basic mod and if you need something faster after it you need more torque and a bigger saw at that point imo... it will never have the torque of an 020 540 etc .....
13. Problem with thinning is when done like that and not on the tips where it needs it is it doesn't really reduce weight Imo I think it does the opposite and open ups wind tunnels in the crown making it more liable to fail, also takes away any decent branches for future tip reduction or tip thinning.
14. Trees a mess really and proves why formative pruning of young trees is essential! It's going to need constant attention if retained so again I would recommend the bracing and reducing if it's that's the case.
15. Leave the funk and the hole alone !! Draining it will just make perfect conditions for it to decay further and filling it won't help either, water makes the conditions unfavourable for decay fungi.. these are regarded as old practices that current research has proven just makes it worse! Also drilling and bolting ... would not recommend that either unless the tree was already splitting and I would be considering stainless as oak will eat steal. Tip reducing to lessen wind sail , upper cable bracing in the crown and being oak I would consider a non invasive brace if the tree was defective would be the normal routine maybe a heavy crown reduction if the defects where bad.
16. And that is why I would not trust him , he's a liar who let down his guard at Glastonbury and shown his true Marxist colours , last time I saw a speech like that it was on the history channel in Germany 1930's , I actually had to turn it off.
17. Nice set up mate , if your still spending money this would go nicely on the chipper and make loading and stacking the winch landing a breeze! https://www.kilworthmachinery.co.uk/product/farma-c5-1d-crane-with-new-3-point-linkage-frame-and-legs/
18. I worked for one of Edwards illegitimate sons who was all hushed up by the family but weird to think he could of been king as his hobby was getting smashed on scotch and getting in his tractor with a shotgun ,case of cigars and going ploughing ... queens cousin was staying there one day so no chainsaws before 10.. beautiful but neglected estate and very nice people to work for.
19. Mark I despair at the whole thing, the system is corrupt and always has been,I think people are waking up .. something is in the air good or bad changes are happening. Have you seen that documentary the killings of Tony Blair ?? worth a watch. I'm good mate, apart from just loosing a big salmon or sea trout on the Tyne in the dark!
20. I agree in every thing he says but to turn and drag greenfell in to a political argument that things would of been any different if Corbyn had won is mental illness.
21. Be careful what your buying and make sure it's the mk2. Be aware a lot of the cheaper ones will be dealers trying to move on there old stock mk1's... saying that I think the early mk1 had a bit more power!
22. Kretz infested beech fell. Was supposed to have done this tree last year as it was a boundary tree and not belonging to the house and the people in the house threatening to sue us if a spec of saw dust landed in there drive!! There tree surgeon had told them it was fine and there was nothing wrong with it, I saw his apparent report as well 😂.. a year later the guy in the house changed his mind and demanded it down immediately... I wonder if telling him to google kretzschmaria deusta player a part.
23. Exactly Richie , people are absolutely deluded if they think things will be better under labour. Personally think it's shameful if you have fallen for corbyns class war bollox, his whole manifesto was based on hatred of people who have gotten off there arses and worked towards something better. Labour for me self employed was a disaster 6k tax threshold !!
24. When I watched the vid all I could hear was screams of kill him ! kill him! Coming from the crowd ?
25. Interesting that the manual says use the throttle lock, my 395 and 88 start fine with out from warm. It's going to give any saw a benefit to warm up a bit on half throttle from cold but I find most saws benefit from a good rag on full throttle after just so they settle in, especially the auto tunes... with out fail my 540's 550s and 560's won't settle or pick up properly if they don't.... I never have the chain brake on though , some of my huskys actually refuse to cold start with them on.. my 550 is a pita if it's accidentally been knocked on.
