  1. I don't think the LPA can revoke the planning permission, but they can impose conditions which must be adhered to. Firstly a condition requiring a full and detailed Arb method statement would seem obvious....poor arb that's got to write it though! Are you saying that the new build will effectively hem in the tree with the building one side and the road the other? Why was the RPA reduced? Surely it can only be offset in one direction if it's an 'open grown' tree (whatever that's supposed to mean!). A few ideas: Can the pedestrian path be constructed using a no-dig method? Can the knotweed be controlled by direct stem injection for now instead of the large excavation of soil in the RPA?
  2. Cool. Best wishes for your new venture.
  3. I wussed out at Bloukrans bridge (and my wife was with me).
  4. Being an employee does not stop you being in control of your destiny.
  5. Holy cow! I did that jump in 1999 - I was petrified enough with a good bungee! Loler doesn't seem to exist in Africa. Last year I did a zip slide canopy tour in South Africa. The krabs were all old, with only 2 way locking gates that stuck open easily. I pointed this out to the guide (after she'd given a talk about how all the equipment was checked daily!) but was told if I didn't like it I shouldn't do the tour. I did do it but was constantly checking my wife and in-laws krabs for them!
  6. As you know, self-employed makes you a lot more flexible which is good if you are confident of finding more work from other sources. However, self-employed status carries a number of other risks/downsides. It is much harder to get a mortgage if you are not an 'employee', particularly in the first 3 years. Also, if your work dries up it can be difficult to claim JSA if you ever needed to (which I hope you don't!). It's a tricky decision to make so don't rush in to anything and do your research!
  7. Are you saying you ask/make him wear long sleeves in hot weather? Seems a bit harsh if you don't mind me saying. What would you do if he got heat exhaustion? Edit - sorry, I have now read your later post!
  8. Hi Ozy, I work for Acorn Env Management Group (previously Acorn Tree Surgery) based in Redditch. We are busy with work in Birmingham. If you want to send me your CV I will pass it on to the MD or one of the operations managers. [email protected] cheers, Paul
  9. Hi Pete, Thanks for using the forum to work out what plant you have/had growing next door. I feel I need to point out that you have committed an offence by trespassing on your neighbour's land and causing damage to her property (i.e the plant which is her property). I am sure you can appreciate that this forum does not knowingly support or endorse any illegal activity. I hope you find a good resolution to get you out of the mess.
  10. I've got a 3GS now - just don't know whether to stuck with apple or go for a samsung galaxy or htc. I like the 3GS except it sometimes crashes mid call.
  11. Is the iPhone 4s worth the extra money? I'm due an upgrade in a few weeks.
  12. Bit early in the day for a panto Steve?! Hope they do a good job on you.
  13. Ouch!! Heal up quick mate. I know you won't do that again!!
  14. In my opinion the ticket collector should not have accepted the offer from the big guy to eject the fare dodger. It seems totally unprofessional to allow the public to interject in that way. If they had sat it out all the other passengers would have quickly got fed up with the little bloke and he would have felt pressure to get off. That aggression should not have been used in front of children - stuff like that can quickly get out of hand and cause a lot of distress to innocent bystanders.
  15. That is some awful journalism. Why do we want to know about the owners career and which University his daughter went to?! How about telling us where it happened and whether tree was decayed or not!
  16. It is true: Tree in Limpopo (South Africa) Tree of life Walt Disney World : Get A Look At This That's ruined my morning.
  17. Is it really Disneyland or are you joking?
  18. I have been told that the winning name will be posted on all websites like this, Linkedin etc so the winner should see their name around if they are not an AA member. Thanks for filling the survey in guys, it will be very useful. I would like the AA to get plenty of feedback from Arbtalk!
  19. We've used these before: Ground anchors and ground anchoring systems from Anchor Systems Europe I think they are just over £30 a set but you will need the long metal bar as well to knock the anchors in to the ground.
  20. Can I ask why? Do you feel it is better respected/harder to attain...?
  21. Let's try and revive this thread then....where are the comments you promised Rob, Tony and Marco? Do we agree with the conclusion of the article - that our industry needs one 'professional body' and one 'trade association'? The article majors on the issue of the AA missing out on the charter for arboriculture and suggests this means the AA can never be our professional body and will therefore only be a trade association. I agree that this is a major plus for the ICF (they got the charter) and unfortunate for the AA. However, AA Registered Consultants are among the most respected in the UK so it would seem the AA has some kudos anyway. Whether this will continue in the future remains to be seen...it depends whether the next generation of arbs want to get chartered status or become AA Reg Cons!
  22. No worries, I won't read it til Monday so no panic.
  23. Hi Rob. I may need a surveyor just for about 2 weeks later this month or early Jan. Can you email me a Cv? [email protected] Work is in Birmingham.
