However, my point stands - a Jensens interlocking rollers handle hedge clippings the same as any other chipper and when the rollers are apart namely when they have material between them, they are no longer interlocking. Am I correct? Bald Ed - Have you been a polititian in a previous life. You keep almost answering the question but not giving us the definitive answer.
  4. A chipper will do 90% of what a shredder will do quicker and more efficiently. If small root balls and excessively dirty material don't come into it then this figure is greater. Look for a hyd machine with twin feed rollers. Judging by the machines you are looking at, I guess your budget is not huge. I would rec a TW125PH or similar. As for feeding the hedge clippings just make a push stick with an end bigger than the feed opening and away you go. The 2 machines you looked at have never been big sellers in the UK esp the Negri. If you decide to buy one of these expect very little in view of any future value, whereas a small recognised brand of chipper will always sell very easily.

  8. Treebusta was a push along machine. http://www.earborist.com/Brush-Chippers_ENTEC-TREEBUSTA_2894.php Last models has 15hp Kohler and TW stopped building them in about 2001. Really was the best little chipper I've ever used. The 18/100g is the Old Trukloder. Again a gem of a chipper. Think they are about £4k these days. Thats cheaper than a GMR100 and its road towable!!!!! As for the 13/75G. 13Hp Honda. Reliable. Discharge high enough to chip into rubble sack (same as GMR100). Never had bearing issues with them when we had them on our hire fleet and as far as I'm aware no more an issue than with any other make of chipper. Blade is a single 7" which gives the machine good performance and is very forgiving for the less experienced user. As for the feed height. Agree with you there, it is a bit high but I've fed them no probs at all. Again think they are about £2.5k these days. Thats 2 13/75 for 1 GMR100 as near as dammit.

  10. So what problems has the 13/75 got Pete. I think its a great little chipper. (Did I just say that) For the money their is none better and I have seen very few issues and problems. The machine is as simple as they come and very user friendly. Pity they still don't make the TreeBusta. That was one of the best tools I ever used. The looks on peoples faces as the wood just disappeared. RIP my little wheelbarrow friend.

    Sorry I couldn't help. Away in deepest cornwall. For future reference. TW do no longer supply switches for the old style control box, but if the box is still in good condition we can supply a full set of metal switches to fit. They are stronger than the plastic ones originally fitted and so far we have had really good feed back on them. Total cost for all 3 switches, contactors and wiring diagram £100 + vat. Regards Mike
  12. Was thinking maybe ford ranger but not sure what mpg is,? We get an average of low 30's with a mix of towing and empty. Put your foot down and 20's. Has to be new ranger tho with TDCI engine. The old ones made BP most of their profit!!!
  13. All the smaller Schliesing chippers have adjustable chip size from 5 - 20 mm (depending on the material being fed of course). The machines have an adjustable speed control on the feed rollers. Slow the rollers and the chip gets smaller. You have to accept your throughput will be slower tho.

  15. Wakefield DC. Close. Works a treat on 140hp Valmet. Smiles all round as the wood just vanished.
  16. Got to have my say Lee (as always) Yes we have a Ranger. 2 in fact. They work hard pull like a train. In total now done about 50k between them in a year with nothing more than regular servicing. Off road not brilliant without a load in the back but a couple of hundred kilos of tools and gear usually does the trick. (Any pick up I have ever driven is no different). If off road work was a priority than diff tyres would have been fitted which I think would make a big difference. More agricultural than some but it is a work tool not a toy. A pic of a little trip recently. A healthy 3 tonne on the back!! and 600 miles. Returned 29 / 30 mpg and at times had to slow myself down. Got mates with L200's, new Hi Lux's, one whos just got rid of his replacement Navara as it spent more time with Nissan than the one they replaced. Would I swap mine tomorrow. NO WAY.
  17. I herd some schlise loving sorry no no no over priced not because they have more gear because you have to pay for the import charges etc. Not quite sure what you are saying there. Must have your own language. Last time I checked Germany was in the EU. No import duties / charges as far as I know. They have slow no stress absurdly to heavy there lightest unit is the 5 inch at what 750kgs. Which is good for sod all with its weak engine you need more power to spin heavy flywheels TW use the right combo of power to weight. Actually you need less power with a bigger flywheel. The momentum in a flywheel weighing in excess of 100kgs to that of one weighing under 40kgs is equivalent to an awful lot of horsepower. I used three brand new ones and had so many problems the first broke for unknown reasons first day on trial second one ok was man error but over 1 week for repair parts and extorted prices later fixed. Things like this may happen. Brand new vehicles are more likely to fail in the first 5 hours. Your case is unknown to us. How long ago was this. All consumable parts on the shelf available for next day delivery. Odscure parts next day UPS from Germany. You need a 7.5 tonnne van to tow all there machines or you got no weight for chip stupid germans. Stupid Germans! Since when has how much a trailer / chipper weighed affected what the vehicle can carry. UK market needs a UK chipper TW is for the small to medium company which is 89% of the uk arb. We need a compact chipper light with 7.5inch capacity with a 750kg tag one day we may. Yes correct, but the materials the machine would have to be made out of would put it in the price range of a supercar. I apologise for the rant but some of the above was just utter crap.
  18. Hello (and thanks PB for telling all the local bad boys my house was empty). My thoughts on this subject. What suits one may not suit another. A chipper is only as good as the person that maintains it. Always do your homework. Work out costing for the period you want to own the machine not just the purchase price. Clearly think about the use of the machine. Lightweight will mean more maintenance especially in the incorrect environment. Demonstrate the machine thoroughly. Try to get machines side by side. That way you get to chose and salesmen less likely to influence. Demonstrate using material you hate the most. Conifer / Hawthorn etc. Any 6" machine can chip a 6" broomstick whats impressive about that. Lets see a 6" chipper cope with a bit of 5" hawthorn with all it's branches attached. Very few will manage that. The ones that do will soon repay their extra cost in labour time over a few years. Most important make your own mind up. The chipper will probably be one of the most expensive bits of kit you will purchase. Buy wisely and buy once. To sum up. There is no perfect chipper. Some are just better than others and that is the choice you must make.

  20. Would have to agree. Standard 550ZX weighs in at 1800kgs. There are machines with same capacity but lighter in weight and build. Anything over 140hp and the 550ZX is awesome. Better than any equivalent chipper i have ever seen used. I love watching peoples faces the first time they put a bit of wood in. As mastercard would say " priceless".

  22. You have to remember. Most trailers / chippers / towed plant are not like modern vehicles. The brakes need to be manually adjusted. I would say we adjust up the brakes on 90% of the machines that come through our workshop. We see machines where the brake shoes are not even coming into contact with the drums. Wheel bearings are another issue. Again we adjust and replace plenty. Had machines in here that we cant explain why the wheels are still on and the customer had no idea there was a problem. In this modern age where manufacturers are trying to make machines lighter where do you think they can loose the most weight the wont be too noticable. By fitting lighter axles and chassis components this is an easy way out to loose weight. This again means those components will require more maintaining. All to often we see that chassis components are neglected until something snaps or breaks. I've seen £10,000 + bits of kit rolled over and wrecked because of a £50 bearing not being adjusted. Does'nt really make sense does it. If all the chippers being used today in the UK, and thats alot. How many would pass a simple brake test? My guess is under 30%. A test or inspection can only be a good thing.
