  1. Petrol engine is ok but depends on use. We have one customer who traded from Entec CH25PH to Schliesing200MX. The savings in fuel from petrol to red pays his finance. You can't get away from the fact petrol is the best part of a fiver a gallon. Anything over 10 hours a week and it has to be diesel. £50 v upto £20. Thats a min of £1560 per year. 4 yr life of average chipper ownership = £6240. Last nail in coffin for petrol chipper is Diesel chippers always depreciate less than equiv petrol machines. So sorry but diesel always wins for me. Petrol will save money on new cost but it will hit back.
  2. Ed's right there. Next problem is weight. 6" turntable and under 750Kgs. Wouldn't last long would it!!!!!!!!
  3. Looks like its got a letter box effect between rollers and rotor. This is where the size reduction probably is. Rotor is angled like an american chipper, Bandit etc which does help with power to size ratio on bigger wood, but can create a dead area. Be interesting to know rotor speed as i suspect it spins very fast so chip is small. As Ed says if its cheap and spares are available (check with Major) probably not a bad buy. I'd take some wood and give it a good try out first tho.
  4. Its a tragic loss.Especially as children were also killed. I'm a Subaru Impreza driver and talk to anyone who is and they will tell you one of the reasons they own one is because the likes of Colin Mcrea and Richard Burns. They turned this car from an unknown to an iconic ledgend. Sadly both are now gone but their memory lives on every time I and many others turn the key. Thank you for the memories.
  5. We all know if it will take 8" users will use it to that capacity. This would be ok if it had the power to cope. If you could get 8" to the disc what would happen? Having the odd inch extra around is good as long as the chipper is up to it. The spec shows the rotor diameter at 560mm. Combine that with 28hp and in my experience thats just not enough to cope with 8". Haven't seen one work tho so we might all be surprised.
  6. http://www.laski.cz Chipper spec confusing as opening states 290mm x 220mm (11.5" x 8.5") but max capacity quoted as 150mm (6"). Engine 28hp lombardini so def not enough power for 8". I also think it was sold by company called Major Equipment. major-grasscare.com, but don't hold me to that one. Hope this helps. Mike
  7. If memory serves me right. Major is just a rebadged name. I'm pretty sure its made by Laski, the same people who make Greenmechs Stump Grinders.(Pete B might know more). First saw one at Saltex about 2 years ago. Model there was a 120 but had a 8" x 5" opening and was sold as 5" machine so would poss question 8" capacity. Only ever seen them at shows. Have never come accross one in use.
  8. So you feed the chipper from the truck. By Hand?
  9. classic!! should we fit hydraulic motors with remote to make it easier!!
  10. Why 360 degree Ed. You can't chip standing over the tow hitch. 270 degree easier to manufacture as you dont have to turn everything. We find single axle more popular simply because its easier to manhandle and weighs less without compromising strength.
  11. You should see the stickers on the Impreza!!!
  12. Yes just me and Ashley. Great week with the best weather we've had for ages. Truley a boys week. Wish I had his energy though.

toby. Was with us for 15 years until he had 2 be put to sleep a few months ago. A real family dog. He would sleep outside the kids rooms when they were in bed and wouldn't let anyone in. He is so missed. He would hear the truck coming and go mad. Couldn't even gets my boots off until I'd made a fuss.
  18. One more thing to add and it's something PeteB will agree with. I've seen the worst built chipppers out perform the best many times. Why? Complete lack of maintenance. Any chipper is only as good as the maintenance it gets. Abuse it and it will be c**p. On many a demonstration you hear the customer saying how bad their current machine has been. You look at it and really want to ask him if he knows what tools look like. It doesn't matter what machine you sell, there are times you would like to run away from the deal because you know all you are going to get is future hassel.
  19. Have you forgotten someone? 8" and above.
  20. Lee Spotted this and it's local. Ask Steve he might have used it. http://www.earborist.com/Vehicles_Iveco-7.5ton-lorry_3049.php

  22. Anyone thought of replacing the t with the tree.
  23. Peak district camping with my 10 yr old son. Did visit and complete Go Ape at Buxton. Fun to actually be in a tree not destroying it!!
  24. Anvil settings only have an affect on chip quality. As others have said the smaller the gap (1 - 2mm) on average on most chippers and sharp blades will give the best quality chip. Chip size is dictated by the gap between blade and rotor. On a perfect set up the largest chip is acheived when the wood is cut just before the wood hits the rotor. Smaller chip is usually acheived by slowing the feed rollers down so the cut ratio is increased. Graveleys have always produced a very fine chip. The smaller the chip the less the strain. That's why chippers used to have roller speed control long before autofeed / no-stress as you could chip larger material without stopping the feed so much. Hope this helps.
  25. We currently have a 2000 - 400ZX (same capacity but feed rollers not as wide as 440) being fully refurbished.(It has spent its life behind a 175hp Mog. It has autofeed but has never been switched on. Total items replaced apart from blades, anvils etc. 1 x Rear flywheel bearing due to lack of greasing). This machine will be about £4500 + vat, inc auto feed and HSE safety spec. The value of the 440 would depend on if the machine was up to current HSE compliancy (not required in 99 when built) and whether it has autofeed. If it has neither I would value at about £2.5k and upto £3.5k if all there and working.
