  1. Huntsman DO bite, just not poisonous. The bite always goes sceptic though, as they feed on dirty cockroaches.
  2. Andy, £6k for an 8 year old entec is way too much. what are you looking for?
  3. The European Union commissioners have announced that agreement has been reached to adopt English as the preferred language for European communities, rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five-year phased plan for what will be known as Euro English (Euro for short). In the first year, 's' will be used instead of the soft 'c'. Sertainly, sivil servants will resieve this news with joy. Also, the hard 'c' will be replaced with 'k'. Not only will this klear up konfusion, but typewriters kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome 'ph' will be replaced by 'f'. This will make words like 'fotograf' twenty persent shorter. In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expected to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of silent 'e's in the languag is disgrasful, and they would go. By the fourth year, peopl will be reseptiv to steps such as replasing 'th' by 'z' and 'w' by 'v'. During ze fifz year, ze uneseary 'o' kan be dropd from vords kontaining 'ou', and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters. After zis fifz yer, ve vil have a reli sensibl riten styl. Zer vil b no mor trubls or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech ozer. Ze drem vil finali kum tru.
  4. Sal, I bought a pile of those Lyngsoe Microflex coats in orange from you a few years ago. Great coats, very comfy, but definately not breathable. They got tore up by thorns quite easily too. Is that a new breathable design?
  5. Kevlar lined, and banded to prevent uneven wear.
  6. What, you mean you get paid in these?
  7. Jason, we went with a 22" disc, about as big as I wanted with the small engine. By comparison, the Kanga uses a 16" disc. Thanks for the tip on the Gates Polychain. running V belts now, much better. Treebogan, why would you want to bother with hydraulic drive? if you work out the components needed, it would cost about 2 1/2 times more. Hydraulic drive is very inefficient. Cupholders? no problem. you get 4 as standard, with another 8 optional
  8. Pete, The hydraulic flow on the CSF was far too high, meaning the controls had to be feathered very carefully. I'm going to fit flow controls as standard, meaning you can set the swing speed irrespective of flow.

  10. So after much messing around, we finally settled down on the grinder project. It works exceptionally well. The first stump was a 4 ft dia. lombardy poplar, 2 ft high. it ground out in 22 minutes. Pete Mctree will confirm the stump size. It ground out 10 poplar stumps from 2ft - 4ft dia in 4 hours, and used 3 gallons of petrol. The new Kohler engine has stacks more torque than the old 27hp. The machine in the pictures and video is not fitted with the chip guard or front guard, as the paint was still wet. Click here to see it working
  11. Jonnie, -No. You still get quality engineering in Britain, but its always small companies. And the skills have gone now in large numbers. and large british workforces just dont give a toss. Steve, I totally disagree that running a larger truck and chipper is prohibitively expensive for small companies. I was a 2 man outfit when I bought my first lorry, and getting someone through a class 1 hgv is esier and cheaper than getting them their chainsaw tickets. Running a truck and chipper with decent capacity is a sure fire way of boosting any small firms productivity.
  12. Jonnie, I understand exactly where you are coming from. The lend lease agreement was punitive to Britain, and the war destroyed our economy and left us bankrupt, whilst Germany, Japan and the US economy's burgeoned. I think it goes beyond that though, Rovers were crap cause they were built by workers that could'nt give a toss, management that refused to invest, and generaly poor designs. Even with the vast sums BMW invested into rover, they still could'nt get the quality right.
  13. I think there is a big quality difference, and a longevity issue. Schliesing and their ilk have a track record for lasting a LOT longer than a TW or GM. factor replacement costs in, and it makes a big difference. Also, I would'nt compare a 35/150 to a 200MX. The 190 is closer to a 200mx, and I would still go for the german machine. Having said that, I think the US built chippers are still better quality than the German built stuff. History is all very well, but what would you rather have - an austin rover or a BMW?
  14. Jeez, the treemotion was like wearing a piece of cheesewire

  16. I'm used to a heavy Buckingham harness, thats stood up to 8 years of abuse. I'm also used to a hard seat, and I do mainly large takedowns. Sounds perfect.

  18. Any opinions on this harness? It seems like a good tool, but I'd like to hear from users..
  19. On Bad Climbers - 'He climbs like a ruptured Duck'
  20. I know. I was teasing. Dont make me start quoting you...
  21. Who cares? chipper rant ahoy!
  22. Calvin, one other method is to give her a harness with 2 tape strops. She can climb as much as she likes then whilst always being belayed. It also means she's not reliant on you top roping her.
  23. Better than the hammering they gave us 5 weeks ago. it certainly did'nt go all their way.
  24. Well done England, good showing. Hats off to the springboks, who were ultimately stronger. 6 - 15, with all penalty kick points. Shame Englands try was null.
