  1. Yup. Johnny foreigner tree if ever I saw one.
  2. Tree nazi! Arbor supremacist!
  3. Nice Pics!
  4. No, you said that the type of use a machine undergoes is irrelevant. On a 12" Bandit, I would say that kind of paint wear is average. I know this from experience, having owned among other large chippers, a 12" 250xp Bandit.
  5. Irrelevant? your saying that the Type of material chipped, the ground conditions, the quality of the paintwork, and the capacity of the machine have no relevance to the condition of the paint on the infeed chute? Whats the air like on your planet? On our 24inch machine, the infeed chute was worn shiny within 50 hours....
  6. People flogging the odd saw on ebay dont count. they are classed as private sellers. Your problem is this - If one of your staff is injured using those saws, your insurance company will NOT cover you, and the HSE will be having words.
  7. Customs and excise would have no jurisdiction to prevent equipment coming in as it is up to the seller to obtain the required marking and conformity within the UK / EU. I would love to know who sells non CE marked chainsaws?
  8. Fell connifer, fell smaller pine, deadwood and crown clean larger pine > £540 is a fair price.
  9. I totally disagree. If topping extends the viable life of an old tree, why fell it and replant with something that will take many years to replace what you removed? Many old trees were there before the damn house. The tree surgeons standard money maker:aetsch: Here we go again, this old chestnut that it is 'wrong' or 'immoral' or 'unethical' to top a tree. Why is it that you make an exception for Leylandii? Do I have no conscience because I will top trees? Bad analogy. Trees are living things, and support an even bigger ecosystem. you have to look at the bigger picture, on how people percieve trees, on how we interact with our surroundings, on the long term effects of our actions. Dont take what I say as a criticism. What you say is good practice, but I've come to believe that its wrong to make hard and fast rules.

  11. they look more like black pine than scots. they've not been topped before, thats just the growth pattern of Pinus nigra. I would suggest felling the left hand multi stemmed tree.

    Strimmer

I have had great success with Kawasaki. MB you would call it a weed whacker. Whatever model you get, invest in one of these - http://www.lamengarb.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=177%7B9%7D66
  13. 60 - 80 ft tres are quite big to be hammering unless they already have a large crown. Scots pines round here tend to have tiny sparse crowns, so a 40% reduction would leave a stem. It would be good if you could post a few pics, then you would get some good objective advice.
  14. I assume you mean Scots pine How big are these pinus? Yes, they will quite happily tolerate a 40% reduction, although he resulting sprout growth will be something to behold! The branches left will all try and assume apical dominance, creating an upside down shaving brush effect. You may want to advise that if you do hit the crown hard, that they get you in every 3 years to manage the regrowth.

Nice work as always Monkey. Really like that dead hedge idea. You could even plant whips in amongst it for a future hedge.

  19. On the other hand, If you want a thoroughly disreputable rogue, I might be able to spare a day or two:ridinghorse: I usually clear and burn for £1000 a hectare.
  20. Get me and Peter in. I'd fell it....
