  1. The circular gob looks like its been axed out. Looks also like theres a couple of lines into the tree. All the onlookers seem confident it aint goin to fall towards them!
  2. Nice find steven for anyone going over there. So am i right thinking thats around £250? Not too bad when a 200t is nearer £400 after discount at the moment. Oh, and welcome to the forum:hello:
  3. Thats why i darent post a pic of mine:blushing:
  4. My input is; I will be going with the missus, therefore £30. One of the reasons for going is that there are good discounts. Paying the entry fee makes that lees inviting. Its a struggle to get round the show in one day, but would go two days if it was free, and therefore purchase more, therefore better for the stands.
  5. Mmmmm! I did get a visit following such a letter. Turned out it was a "friendly neighbour" that reported me. The visit was on the basis of storage of chemicals, equipment and fuel, not particularly on working practice. Hopefully now i'm on the list of "once visited" i wont get another visit:sneaky2:
  6. Difficult not being there and seeing it for myself, but think i would have cut it at the ground. Some may recall i did a chestnut similar a few weeks back- just knocked some side limbs off then clear felled. Probably similar situation. A tree often "feels" different once you get into it compared to viewing off the ground. How long before you tell us what you did peter?
  7. Absolutely! A job has its price and thats that! I would say, on the whole customers arent too worried how long it takes either, especially in the current market, price seems to come as priority. Everyone to their own, whatever works best for you. Some people find bigger and fancier is better, others dont. It still comes down to what the customer is happy paying. Oh, and, combined with how much they like you!
  8. Absolutely!!! I feel its a good thing to see how passionate some people are about tree care......let it run:001_smile:
  9. What he said:001_cool: Good call in my opinion Dave, and nice work. Not sure about nelly- something about being in a basket 90foot up would give me a shiver:scared1:
  10. I was refering to my age dean not cause i'm a big fat lad!!!
  11. I will make it this time Pete, dont know if i'll climb though- i wouldnt want to show you youngsters up:bootyshake:
  12. A bit like felling at upto 2.5 bar length? I nearly always fell larger stuff like that, but you can still dogtooth the fell, but i doubt i would ever use it on a winch pull.
  13. Oops, just posted at same time as you jim. It would be interesting if there was a link about the correct taxation classes of the defenders though matt. Do you have any info mate?
  14. Think i stirred up a hornets nest:laugh: If i read correctly the new car taxation only applies to vehicles registered on or after 1st march 2001, so i dont think there will be any 300tdi's in the new bracket.
  15. Yeh not sure on van/commercial stuff. I only checked mine as it it came up on the link shown. And yes its on a standard car test.
  16. The government do have a point trying to make gas guzzlers pay, but as you point out Dean, it doesnt relate to mileage. I do not object to paying up for something that is classed as a luxury,(such as running my V8 landy that i class as a toy) but what i would much prefer to see is an exemption or allowance for essential users. I wonder if this is at all possible for the government to introduce?
  17. If you get stuck Nige, try John Woodmansey, if he cant help himself im sure he will know someone who can. You could also drop Gomad a PM and see if he's intersted.
  18. Mine is a double cab Chris, 2002 model. I entered it as van, i dont think it makes much difference! Ive not been able to find a definate emission table for defenders until this one- these search engines seem to get a bit lost when it comes to landys:scared1:
  19. Just found out for sure what my TD5 defender will cost to tax over the next few years. Renewal is in september, and after lots of speculation about what will cost what, my defender will be; 2007: £180 (runs out sept) 2008; £220 2009; £440 2010: £455 The td5 in a defender emits upto 299g/km, so its way over the top threshold of 255g/km. Therefore i believe all other td5`s will be in the same bracket. Work out your emissions on here; http://www.smmtco2.co.uk/co2search2.asp Then look on here; http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_10012524 http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/Budget2008/DG_073093
  20. Brings back memories, we had one as a horsebox in the mid - late 70`s. There were 4 cylinder and 6, the 4 was a bit under powered. I think they were rated at either 10 tons gross or 7.5. You could get the 10 tonner de-reted by removing helper springs then drive it on a car license. Ours was an ex United Carriers truck with a gearbox out of a coach- it would do 80 mph- scary:scared1: Lovely old truck there Mike:001_tt1:
  21. We were once on a job, chipping on a shared drive. The other property sharing the drive had some builders working. One of the builders asked; "will that thing take a brick?":scared1:
  22. Lol, I recon it was a year old sapling, therefore my guess of 140 (9 years out) was nearest:bootyshake:
  23. So Steve, are you going to give the game away yet then?
  24. Does anyone know if the caddys will fit any shank? I have kleins that have a very similar shank to buckinghams, but perhaps they are universal anyway.....
  25. Ive carried one for a few years dean............wouldnt like to think whats growing on it now:scared1:
