  1. Thats the word he used Rob! He explained it to me that the more you drank, the more you pee'd and the body didnt get the fluid it needed and ended up dehydrated. I wonder if coffee is the same?
  2. Strangely enough, someone told me a few months back that tea actually dehydrates you. There was a fancy name for it I cant remember but basically it makes you pee and you lose vital fluid. I get cramp regularly when i climb and the only way to help prevent it is LOADS of fluids durin the day. If you are climbing start banging the water in before and during the climb. Not as an after thought. I just take 4 liters of cordial every day with me, seems to help. Failing that, Crampex on a night.
  3. I think going on the replies from this thread, there are a massive amount who are in the "optional" area of turnover. You saying you dont declare cash, that could end up causing big problems for yourself IMO?
  4. Cant get past level 2 but had to give up as i think i was going to push my N key through the keyboard! Will try again later, might be better after a beer tonight!
  5. The bit that i find funny, is that it looks quite well used and waxed up:thumbup:
  6. Drop the lime, lemonade and rocks, and I'm with you:thumbup:
  7. Good idea Johnny, and if your buying I'll have a large Merlot. All beered up now:blushing:
  8. Time has passed now Stevie and I aint fretting about it, but as it happens the contract was sealed by the other guy sending me a text (that i still have) with no mention of the price rise. At that point i possibly just "assumed" the terms would be as usual. I heard indirectly 2 days before the works about possibility of the issue, then by text from the guy less than 24 hrs prior to works. Then he never turned up anyhow! Ha ha! So as you say, having written or text records is good, but i arent one to get arsed about it, just move on in stead. No hassle. Some good advise there though Stevie, sometimes help to look at how the other person sees a situation.
  9. Very nice job Reg, but a shame all the same. Did you get any helmet vid too?
  10. I think in general, going on the majority of replies you have all given, and the type of set up i have at present it is not a viable option. Due to my wife doing my books, having a job, an extra bill for the accountants all need to considered too. I feel much more at ease now, many thanks.
  11. Unfortunately the guy who sprang it on me must have assumed it was ok, but never turned up to fulfill his contract, so guess it wasnt a problem in the end. Not entirely sure on the legalities of such, perhaps its just an un-gentlemanly type of behaviour:thumbdown:
  12. Not sure what year mine were but i think it was half a lifetime before you:001_rolleyes: Im not wanting to diss the thread or vid, im quite impressed by it. Just didnt want it being portrayed as safe practice to lesser experienced if it wasnt:001_smile:
  13. Wow! Things must have changed over here. Stevie, the way i was taught, it was unsafe to "walk" without the chainbrake on. Either with bar on your side or not. The reason being if you stumble or fall the saw can easily fall with you, regardless of what side of the spar it was at:confused1:
  14. Mmmm, but were you guys not taught to use the chain brake before walking forward and not using the saw to "pull" it forward? Things have maybe changed since i did my tickets:001_rolleyes:
  15. As far as my clients go Kev, I would say over 90% of them would not be able to claim it back. Mostly being domestic or parish councils, churches etc. Very little vat reg commercials. I doubt i would lower any day rate, as at the moment with rising costs I believe keeping the same would be fair.
  16. Funnily enough Kev, that exact scenario happened to me with less than 24 hrs notice.
  17. Ok, i have a little more time now so see if i can explain better. I currently am using tree surgery arisings, processing quite old school, more of a "wet day" type of job. It has however increased turnover dramatically each year since i started logs again some 3 or so years back. So although there would be a relatively low price rise to the customer (5% vat), the reclaim value would also be quite small as i have no real puchase benifits available, low machinery value and low fuel costs. Because of the above, i cant see much benifit having the firewood side vat reg. So going back to my point earlier, it would be mainly the tree surgery side i would be interested in as its the main part of my work and has greater outgoings that i could claim the VAT back. Also, if i had outstanding contracts with clients, could i add VAT to those previously arranged terms, or would that have to be carried out by the "old business"?
  18. Yep, thats what i was trying to splutter about here. Cheers Kev.
  19. Yes, i see the point Kev, and although i set up EYFS three years ago, as Darren says I intended it being a seperate entity. However it was never seperated in the books, just more of an advertising front. As for the vat on the firewood side, Im not sure i could claim much vat back from it say i bought the wood from the tree surgery side, i couldnt charge vat, very little machinery costs are involved and little fuel. Will reply more later, rushing out!
  20. I get what you are saying Stevie, but I would only do it if it was a benifit to me and I would doubt in my situation I would drop the cost as a result. On another line of thought, do you need to give notice to your clients if you go VAT registered, or can you just add the VAT onto previousy agreed contracts?
  21. Funny John, i wondered about posting this on here! Looks like the guy has the art mastered and i dare say it will save you getting as knackered. If I were to be critical at all though, it does look like he gets a little close to his leg with the bar sometimes and walking forward while cutting should not be promoted:sneaky2: Really interesting to see something new now and then:thumbup1:
  22. Looks real nice Johnny, good bit of diversifying. Where is the job, Harrogate?
  23. Cheers for the replies so far, but there seems to be more emphasis on firewood. At present firewood is only a small part of my turn over and I dont buy in cord. Its all tree surgery waste at present. My main concern is that the large majority of my tree work is domestic, Parish Councils and Churches. None of which are VAT reg. In 2011 the rate is increased to 20%, therefore jobs usually costing say £800 will then become £1000. A massive hike IMO. But, as the business grows is it feasable to claim back VAT. My main VATable outgoings at present are fuel and machinery, vehicles etc.
